Event log: Mirror, mirror
Who: Anyone and everyone!
What: Hope gives everyone mirrors with visions of their most hopeful future inside.
Where: Throughout the city.
When: March 14th-18th
Warnings: None so far!
What: Hope gives everyone mirrors with visions of their most hopeful future inside.
Where: Throughout the city.
When: March 14th-18th
Warnings: None so far!
On March 14th, all characters will stumble across mirrors at some point on their daily journey. Maybe your mirror is right under your pillow, maybe it's on your bedside table, or in the sink in your bathroom. It could be in a random store that you're scavenging, or somewhere along the path that you're taking to go to a friend's place. Wherever it is, it's positioned perfectly for you to find it- though you might want to be quick so someone else doesn't nab it first.
Each mirror is predetermined to hold one person's future and will be placed somewhere that they can find it on that day. Upon looking in their own mirrors, each character will see a version of their future that will fill them with hope. This vision has to be possible- or they have to think it's possible- even if it's unlikely. Picking up someone else's mirror will not change the image inside; you'll instead see that person's vision for their future.
In addition, during the first four days, until March 18th, characters will want to look into any mirror they can find, not just their own. So be a little careful if you want to guard your innermost hopes- someone might be trying to peek.► This log covers March 14th-March 18th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► Please report any character deaths right here!

Or for him, really. Pell has been trying to learn the city, and he's hit the outskirts, the wall of the massive hollow that houses Hadriel. He walks along it, fingers trailing on the cold stone, until he comes to a cave entrance and the glint of light off the mirror catches his eye... he tries to leave it be, but the impulse to look is too strong and there seems to be no one around. Who left it out here?
He kneels and picks it up. It looks like the mirror belongs to the man in the middle of the three, the one with blue hair and no shirt. Interesting decisions, Pell thinks to himself, even as he smiles at the scene. It's not too different from his own; the thriving city, the people he cares about. He stands with the mirror still in his hands and calls into the entrance of the cave -- it's not broken, so maybe it just fell? Or was put down for safekeeping; he's heard the monsters from the coliseum lurk in the tunnels as well but people still go out to scout them. He doesn't dare go in himself, but instead calls out: ]
Hello? Is anyone in there?
no subject
[Kamina isn't far from the cave entrance, just a few bends away. Exploring the caves require a little more work and preparation than many people might expect him to be capable of. After all, this is the same Kamina who's always charging headfirst into some kind of trouble or another, the Kamina who doesn't think before he speaks, the cocky, overconfident hero-type. But he knows caves, and bravado or no, you can't go into these things unprepared.
He's currently setting up a supply cache for his next run when he hears a voice calling from outside. Doesn't sound urgent, so they're proooobably not being attacked, but he's learned firsthand that sometimes yelling into these caves is like ringing the dinner bell, so he finishes what he's doing quickly and stands, dusting his hands off as he heads back to the cave entrance. He doesn't look much different than he did in the mirror; six feet and change, muscular, blue tattoos banding his bare arms and shoulders and rising from his lower back. He's even got that big pink scar zig-zagging across his stomach. His face is just a little less weathered, that's all. Emerging into the slightly brighter light of the main cave, he spots the caller and waves a hand with a grin, not yet spotting the mirror in his hand.]
Yo! You need something?
no subject
Hello. I think you dropped this?
[ He holds out the mirror, offering it back to its owner. ]
I'm sorry, I looked. It was lying out here.
no subject
He perks up a little more at the offered mirror, the apology, and takes it back, shaking his head.]
Nah, I didn't drop it, I just left it out here while I was inside. Don't exactly have pockets or anything. But hey, don't worry about it! It's just me and my bro and Yoko. See?
no subject
[ Obviously not, but how is he not cold? Pell shakes his head, an almost-fond smile on his face. It's hard to be fond of someone you just met but Kamina is inspiring it already. He's possibly the friendliest person Pell's met so far. And he's not mad about the mirror-peeking, that's a good thing. Most people are super protective of theirs. His own is in his pocket and he'd show it to anyone who asked, but no one has. ]
I saw. You look really happy... where are you?
no subject
[He's always been hot-blooded, in both the literal and metaphorical senses. It's never really been much of a problem. Jiiha had stayed pretty comfortable, Adai had been kinda nippy, and this place...well, he's not gonna show anyone that the might Kamina can't take a little cold!]
I have no idea! Never seen that place before. A city that big has always just been a crazy dream! People don't live on the surface anymore, just in pits like this. Some pits have even forgotten there is a surface! But me and my Team Dai Gurren are up there, fighting beastmen, so humanity can once again stand under the open sky! I guess this mirror shows the future, huh?
no subject
Maybe. I think they show the future we most want. Whether or not it'll happen... well we need to get out of here first, and I haven't figured that out yet. Is that what you were doing in the caves?
[ Wait. ] What are beastmen?
no subject
[He's always been a minimalist. Pants, his bandages, and ever since he found his dad's cape on the surface, he's worn it almost every day. Here, he's set it aside--saving it for the day he finds a way out--but he hasn't really bothered with more, or different, clothing. What's the point?]
The future we most want? Yeah, I guess that sounds about right. But you're right, we gotta get out of here, first! The caves are the only place that hasn't been totally explored yet--they're like a maze, and I'm pretty sure they change. But there's gotta be a way back to the surface! I've been trying to find it. Monsters in there don't make it easy, though...
[He scratches his head. It does nothing for the mess of his hair.]
Beastmen're soldiers of the Spiral King! Half man, half animal, all pain in my ass. They're the jerks who keep humanity living underground, so they can have the surface all to themselves. But me and my Team Gurren are changing all that! Hey, you wanna join up?
no subject
How do you know they change? Has anyone tried to map them out? I'd go with you if you wanted help.... you shouldn't be in there alone if there are that many monsters.
[ And he probably shouldn't be in there at all but handling the demons from the coliseum made him braver than he should be. He turns back to Kamina. ]
Join... your Team Gurren? [ Pell quirks an eyebrow. ] I'd consider it but aside from not knowing if I'd be useful... from the description I'm fairly certain I'm not from your world. No Spiral King or beastmen where I'm from, humanity is still above ground. [ ... what's left of them. ] They're not doing well in the war, but they're above ground.
no subject
I don't know, not for sure, but I'm pretty sure the map we had the first time we went in isn't the same as the tunnels I saw the last time I went in. But it doesn't matter, I'll still find a way to break outta here!
[Team Gurren Mk. II can use all sorts of help, so the offer's genuine; even moreso now that this guy's offering to hit up the caves with him. Only something about what he says is really confusing to Kamina...]
Whaddaya mean, not from my world? There's only one, right? Pits down here, and then the surface. I mean, it's a big surface, I don't even know how big--maybe you're just from the other side?
[That has to be it, right? It's what he's been figuring with Z, and with Jinbee and Amos and the rest of the people he's met here. They're just from different pits, or maybe there's another place on the surface free of the Spiral King's rule. It's actually been giving him hope.]
no subject
[ ...wait what? No they're... all from different places, right? That's how Bianca explained it to him. And this can't be his world, there are no hara. Everyone until Kamina had spoken of places where humans still reign. ]
No, I thought we were all from different worlds. No one here has even heard of my kind, and humanity is going extinct where I'm from.
no subject
[He's...never actually had it explained to him. Come to think of it, he's always just assumed his world was the place he'd find when he finally reached the surface. That somewhere up there, Simon and Kittan and Yoko were all fighting, that his Gurren was still in battle. The idea that it wasn't...that it might not be...that's more terrifying than anything Fear's done so far in this place. He can't think about it, not yet.]
Your kind? You look human to me, man. No fangs, no tail, no fur, no scales--I mean, what are you, if you aren't human?
no subject
I'm hara. Wraeththu. It's an evolution of humanity, they're near extinction where I'm from. Above ground but dying out.
no subject
[Everyone's stories are different. But the world is huge, he's only ever seen a little piece of it. That first day above the surface, seeing everything from a hundred feet in the air riding in Lagann, he'd only gotten the first idea of just how big. There could have been anything out there, anyone. But this guy says he's not human, that humans are above ground where he's from and dying out, and if he's right...well, Kamina just can't think about that. Not yet. Instead, he narrows his eyes and looks intently at the other guy, scratching his chin.]
What makes you different from a human??
no subject
Lots of things, I'm still learning them all. There are some physical differences but most of it is in the mind... we can sense one another and exert our will to do 'magic.' I'm a decent healer.
no subject
"Magic?" What's that mean, you mean like...You could just think my battle wounds better?
[Hey, that sounds handy! Really handy! Human or not, he's still no beastman, and with a skill like that...]
no subject
[ Not all inhumans are monsters. :| ]
no subject
[Hey, give him some time, he's still getting used to the idea!]
Hey, that's awesome! Man, you gotta join Team Gurren now!
no subject
Sure, why not? As soon as we get out. Does Gurren mean something special?
no subject
Gurren means "crimson flower"! It stands for the burning fire of a manly spirit and powerful will!
[And here he goes, puffing out his chest and launching into the full recruitment spiel...]
I'm founding a new Team Gurren down here, Gurren Mark II! Our mission is to break through that ceiling up there, just like me and my bro back home! Through the ceiling, through the caves, through the gods if we have to, but we're gonna get to the surface! I, the mighty Kamina, give you my word as a man that we'll make it!
You in?
no subject
I'm in. Do you have many people? What do you have planned?
no subject
[Hey, anywhere's gotta be better than here. That's Kamina's idea, and he's sticking to it. This guy's smile is a good sign, though, and Kamina grins and pumps an arm when he agrees.]
Yes! So far there's just a few of us--Z, Jinbee, Amos--but we got some great people helping anyway! Right now, our plan is to map the caves and try and keep people positive about getting outta here!
Hey, so what's your name?
