You wake up on the hard earth of the colosseum. By the state of things and the various aches and pains in your body, you've probably been passed out there for awhile. A few things should immediately become clear to you upon an initial assessment.1. You're not aloneOf all of these alarming things, the skittery object might be your largest concern. Be wary when turning corners or shutting out the lights: the Hunters work best when your vision is obscured, so their gelatinous form is even harder to spot. Their main goal will be to kill people of course, though they prefer to hide in corners and smaller rooms. Watch out when trying to work through the halls of the colosseum to find the outdoors- they're surprisingly quick, and they prefer to kill their prey by opening their face-flaps and wrapping their mouths around your head. Fun!
2. You're near other people who look to be in a similar state.
3. You're also near an assortment of human shaped lamps.
4. You're also near something that skitters off into the shadows of the colosseum.
More information on Hunters can be found here!
Second largest concern? Maybe it's the people lamps. Maybe it's the actual people around you. Whatever it is, be sure to familiarize yourself with it quickly. The devil you know is better than the devil you don't, after all.
All done with the horrible monsters and awkward greetings? Try your hand at exploring the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies until your little heart is content. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers November 10th-17th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well!
► All characters now arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
2.
She rounds a corner and shrieks, stopping short of the man in front of her, clutching at her chest.
"Jesus," she shouts, "don't sneak up on people like that! What the hell is wrong with you?"
no subject
Looking at her up and down for a moment, he adjusts his stance for a moment, then shrugs. He's not much of a talker right now but he does say one thing to her before he starts evaluating the state of the girl, sizing her up to determine if she's going to be more threat than annoyance.
"Didn't sneak, you walked into me."
no subject
"Maybe you walked into me. Did you think about that?"
It honestly doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, who walked into who - on some level, Nick knows this, and she's choosing to pick a verbal fight. Maybe not consciously; it's a survival mechanism learned in childhood: mouth off and sound mean, and people will assume you're too tough to hassle.
Unfortunately for Nick, this - wherever this is - isn't anything like what she knows how to deal with. She'll have to learn this, like most other things she's learned, the hard way.
no subject
"I knew you were coming. Didn't change course because there was no point."
By no means is he unflappable but frankly, with everything that's going on right now, he hardly cares what some random person thinks as long as she doesn't interfere or happens to be the reason he's here at all.
no subject
What planet is this guy from? she wonders, finally taking a moment to give him a good looking over.
no subject
He moves his cybernetic hand, gesturing in a way that might signal a dismissal. "This isn't getting us out and if you're going to keep making me have this conversation, I'd rather do it after we find our way out."
no subject
"I'm not making you do anything." She shrugs, and makes her own dismissive handwave motion. "Lead the way, pal, since you seem to know everything here."
no subject
He doesn't wait to hear her answer though, just starts heading in the direction that neither of them had come from. Obviously following his previous path wasn't going to get him out, as she had just come from there and backtracking wasn't doing him much good either.
no subject
She stays silent for just long enough to become uncomfortable with it, then speaks up again, notably less hostile than before. "So ... you lost here too? No ideas about how you got here?"
no subject
"None," he states keeping his eyes forward in case something tries to come at them. "I woke up here an hour ago and have been trying to find my way out since."
no subject
"You didn't happen to be in Vancouver before this, did you?"
no subject
Too many of them were around at the time and he's almost damn sure there's someone puling the strings in all this.
"Not sure they're hands on though. 'Could just be...something. An experiment. See what we can deal with." He recalls some of the things he had been put through, the endurance tests and the ones that measured how long he could go without food, or sleep or whatever else they felt like denying him. He knows what he can take, how long he can go. Whether this is more of the same sort of thing or not, he knows that he can survive a lot and is expecting to survive this.
Death would be too easy.
no subject
"You weren't, like, being stalked or anything, were you? By something weird? Something you couldn't explain?" She hesitates, but adds: "Something leaving sick little presents behind, maybe?"
no subject
He keeps moving, not dwelling on what was waiting ofr him back where he'd come from. With no idea what's waiting ahead, he's almost excited in this perverse way. It's certainly not great but it's different and that's better than nothing, right?
Or maybe he's just giving up. Maybe he's just tired and losing it a little. Hard to say, really.
no subject
Whatever. Nick isn't terribly concerned about the greater mystery behind all of this; right now, she's focused on getting out the enclosed space, into the open, where she's less likely to be pinned in by something aiming to attack.
"You got a name?"
no subject
Okay, maybe not because now he has to make a decision but it seemed okay when he first thought about it.

"I don't care what you call me," he finally says. "Make something up and I'll go with it."

"Nothing, nevermind." He shakes his head, running his metal hand through his hair. "Let's just try and get out, then we can try and hold a conversation."

He considers saying something, convincing her to stay for the sake of safety in numbers but he can't bring himself to say anything. It doesn't matter, he can keep himself safe and he's sure she has a trick up her sleeve or...something.
So he nods, giving a half wave. "Good luck," he offers, slightly uncertainly. Maybe he should have tried harder but it's not in him right now and he'd rather be alone until he sorts himself out anyway.
