Intro Log: Ten Thousand Lightning Bugs

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for May.
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: May 10th-16th
Warnings: Confused newbies, pretty fireflies, stuff getting lit on fire

Awakening in Hadriel is perhaps not the most wonderful thing, but as you pry yourself off the hard ground of the colosseum, you may notice that the Door (or possibly one of the gods?) has seen fit to provide you with a little entertainment. Scattered across the ground are a number of handheld video games. These cheap pieces of shit lovingly crafted products can each provide you with whole minutes of entertainment, at least until you get frustrated and smash them to pieces. Have fun!

But not too much fun. If you get too involved in that game, you might miss the approach of some glowing little creatures - guardian fireflies, from the movie Atlantis. Should they land on anything flammable - and yes, that includes you and your hair - it'll burst into flames. Smash them, and they'll explode in a tiny ball of flame, too. There'll be a couple hundred of these things flying around Hadriel, so let's hope you left your stash of gunpowder at home. With the window closed.

Once you've stopped dropped and rolled, feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers May 10th-16th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

Fire has never been an issue with Rey. Capable of generating enough heat to burst into flame, she weaves through the stifling heat and wildfires with little effort. It took some time, but she had finally learned how to harness the ability to absorb as much as she can produce, drawing the surrounding flames into herself. When one of the little fiery buggers attempt to land on her only to burst, she reels that energy in before it can spread. It's the least that she can do for this city, at any rate.

This also takes time, as Rey is only one entity, and there is only so much that even her vessel can take. Too much exertion and she could overcharge...

Which is almost what happens when her left hand suddenly bursts into flame.

Whether EDI is attempting to find cover from the chaos or offer assistance or what have you, she'll find one particular woman. A woman who is currently grumbling with all the annoyance of tending to a papercut and not, you know, having her hand on freaking fire.

"Dammit," she mutters, flinging her wrist in a futile endeavor to wring out what should be a serious injury.

NOPE NOT LATE I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT

Her first instinct is to rush over to the woman--humans aren't supposed to be able to handle their limbs combusting after all--but watching her makes her hesitate. Evidently it isn't much more than a minor annoyance? That's...interesting. In a way, it makes her want to approach even more. That is certainly something that she should find out about; maybe the fireflies would be less of a threat than initially estimated.

She does, at least, make her approach somewhat cautious. There's no telling what anyone will do; she doesn't have the information to even begin to speculate.

"Are you in need of assistance?"
circumitus: I ONLY KNOW HOLA. (EVERYONE IS SPEAKING SPANISH)

NOPE NOPE NOPE

"Negative, should have this under control," she says calmly as she flicks her hand. When that fails, she just brings the flames up attempts to blow them out. As though her breath were a powerful gale, the fires suck inwards, into her skin.

There we go.

Despite her hand having been on fire, there's no symptoms of any burns whatsoever. The only evidence are her clothes, which appear to be only a little scorched from her efforts.

Afterwards, she glances over to the woman, who is... definitely not human in appearance. And it doesn't take Rey long to figure out-- "Oh, you're that other synth Nick mentioned."

Yes, EDI. People were talking about you behind your back.

ALL I SAW WAS AN ON TIME TAG

[personal profile] mobilityassistance 2016-05-16 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Under control? The woman's hand was on fire, and she treated it with all the urgency of a playground scrape. Still, somehow, she didn't seem any worse for wear, so perhaps that was something she'd simply have to get used to. A localized biotic barrier? Or something different? More likely the latter, but now is not the time for those questions.

Only slightly less surprising was the mention that she'd been spoken of.

"If he mentioned a synthetic who recently arrived, then yes. We did speak at some length."
circumitus: - XOXO dad (time to smoke my breakfast)

THANKS, PAL

Rey flexes her fingers, revealing even further that she remains unburnt.

She blinks at the synthetic woman, as she recalls the conversation she just had with Nick. It wasn't like he'd contacted her to warn her about the synth or anything. Considering how she had treated him upon their first encounter (which wasn't very nice at all), however, the heads up makes a little more sense.

"Am assuming then that someone at least gave you the rundown on this place." She doubts that Nick would've left someone like her without some details.

NO PROBLEM, BRO

Not doubt, she's still curious about it, but she keeps her silence on that. The woman doesn't seem given to elaboration, so it was, in all likelihood, pointless to ask. Besides, there are more urgent things to worry about.

"Yes. For the most part." There are still unanswered questions, but she doubts they will ever be addressed. "Unless there is more specific information, I believe I understand the general situation."
circumitus: (could make you care)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-05-18 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Don't suppose anyone's mentioned to you that the fireflies are a new thing, then."

As Rey says this, more another one comes hovering towards her face like it has a purpose. Knowing better this time, she ducks her head, evading the burning insect by a hair's breadth before it could explode into a fiery burst of awful.

"That has been explained to me." And it's something of a relief, really, to know that the insects aren't a more common encounter--particularly since they tended to explode and ignite anything they could land on at the slightest provocation.

"I suggest you retire to safety."
circumitus: She was stuck there, we simply exchanged rides. (it's not like i paid for sex)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-05-18 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh good. Rey is shit when trying to give the 411 to newcomers. Fortunately it's something she hasn't had to do much of. Yet.

She waves a dismissive hand at EDI's comment.

"No worries. Won't be hurt by them. Am probably one of the few who can't be."

Which means she's more useful out here than in 'safety'.

"Yes, I saw." It's still strange, but if the woman won't be hurt, perhaps she should just leave her alone and to her business of...whatever it was she was doing to the fireflies before she'd interrupted.

"Very well. Please let me know should you require any assistance."
