Event Log: The Hills Are Silent

What: The Silent Hill event
Where: Throughout the city
When: June 15th-20th
Warnings: Silent Hill comes to Hadriel, and with it, a few personalized monsters
On the morning of June 15th, a thick fog rolls into Hadriel. There's nothing quite terrifying about it yet, but it manages to drain the city of color, forcing a grey backdrop onto everything behind it. Feel free to go try to check it out if you want, just be careful, because it won't be too long until the sirens start blaring.
There's not exactly a reasonable explanation for where the sound is coming from: Hadriel doesn't have a speaker system, or any warning sirens in place for when something horrible happens. But you'd better find cover quickly, because shortly after the sirens start wailing, the city begins to change. Walls and furniture start to peel, revealing a bloody, hellish version of the city that you once knew. In addition, the monsters from the bestiary will roam the city, as well as a few other monsters that might hit a little closer to home.
Some characters may run into monsters which embody their own sins or insecurities. Some characters may be pursued by their friends' hellish mirrors. One thing is clear: you don't want any of these things catching you. Luckily, it isn't long before Hope makes a post, declaring the god temples as safe zones from all the creatures that are now loose upon the city.
The sirens will fade within a few hours, and the city will fall back to normal, the monsters will retreat back into the fog as if they were never there, and everything seems to be fine again, as if that terrifying experience was just some kind of twisted dream. You can tell yourself that, if you like... but that won't help much the next time the sirens start again.► This log covers June 15th-20th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► Any number of things could murder you here. If you wind up on the unfortunate end of Pyramid Head's chain, please remember to hit up our death post!
A.
Rey is standing behind Victor when she hears the whole damned spiel just then. She had opened her mouth to speak, but didn't care to interrupt while he seemed to be working this all out to himself. In a very vocal fashion.
Not that she is one to judge, though. Sometimes talking to herself helped her get through some trying times. Particularly when spending weeks in a floating prison, fighting to survive on her own.
Despite the holstered firearm, she isn't deterred from approaching the man.
no subject
"Do you always interrupt people when they are working out their problems? What the hell are you doing out here anyways? Don't you know it's dangerous? They were announcing it on the phones. Why don't you get to safety or something before something bad happens? Well?"
Okay, maybe if he wanted answers he should give pause between his rapid fire questions. But no, he's just accusing in his tone.
no subject
She just raises her brows as the man doesn't seem offer the briefest of pauses for her to get even a breath out. Her eyes then narrow at that last part, and she consciously chooses to focus on that since he's stopped talking long enough.
"If you know that it's so dangerous, why are you out?"
no subject
Of course, he realizes he might as well go with the answer that might not mean much here but at least he can back it up. His hand moves to draw out a badge and he flashes the bit of metal to her. "Because I'm with the Division of Investigation and it's my job to get into the thick of the worst situations and find a solution to the problem. The job didn't really account for real monsters but an officer's job is never done."
This was definitely out of his purview. Not all monsters were, but these kinds were not something he's used to dealing with.
no subject
It's been several decades since Rey has heard of a department by that name. She blinks at the badge as if to confirm it's authenticity, and then to Victor. Of course, she shouldn't be so surprised, knowing that everyone here comes from different worlds and timelines from herself. But actually meeting someone who worked for a part of what is called the 'old government' where she's from? Not what she expected to find here.
"Wait. You work for the FBI?" At least, that's what it had been called before the Schism.
no subject
Okay, so maybe he's not giving her time to answer any of his questions. It's not like he seems to be all that concerned with the answers. He Just continues on. "And to think I liked it better when we were just the Bureau. I guess someone's got a few concerns about public images."
no subject
What he did say about her father working for the service or politics isn't too far from the truth. He did help structure the government after the Fall, but that's likely not what this guy had in mind, and not a subject she is eager to instigate.
"'Soon'?" Rey squints an eye, forming a skeptical expression. "The FBI hasn't been a thing for nearly fifty years, like most of the old government services. That aside, think most people here either would've heard of it already or they come from places where it doesn't even exist."
Wibbly wobbly timey wimey multiverse stuff, of course.
no subject
His rambling cut short when he realized he was hitting a topic he really did not want to hit. Instead, he moved on quickly with, "... but it doesn't matter. I'm here so I can still do something about it. Don't worry about it, I'm a professional."
Time might be wobbly here but he has a more rational explanation. At least for his universe. Immortality will do that.
no subject
Luckily Rey has enough knowledge of how things work here to be able to clear things up a little.
Canting her head to the side, she looks at him curiously. "What year are you from?"
If the FBI is just starting up, then he has to be from somewhere around the early 20th Century, right?
no subject
Now he is really, really hoping this is not the future. The phones seem to suggest that, though.
no subject
"Huh. Know someone here from that exact year." It shouldn't be too strange that people would pop in from similar dates, would they?
Still, Rey has yet to run into someone from her time, or even a remotely familiar face. Which is probably for the best, really.
She shrugs. "Don't know what year it is here, if it's even relevant. It was 2153 back home, though."
no subject
Nope, there's no way he missed two plus centuries. No way. Right? How'd they even keep him down that long? No, something else has to be going on. What did she mean by not knowing the exact year? Maybe she was out of it for a year or two. Maybe that's it. "You're kidding me."
no subject
"Am not. You'll find that people all over this city come from different times and worlds here."
A reality that took some time to come to grips with, but Rey has since made her peace with her situation.
no subject
"Could someone really pull that off? Shit! I was done with traveling to new worlds..." The Americas don't really compare. Though his mood mellowed out oddly, for him.
When he speaks, at first it sounds like it's more to to someone who isn't there, "I guess I'm leaving more unfinished things behind. Fuck. Fuck this place. Okay, I guess that means it's time to just deal with these monsters, right? After that, worry about what other freaks got brought here."
no subject
She doesn't even stop to question what he means by 'traveling to new worlds'. By now, she has spoken to at least three different people with world-traveling experience, and figures it more in the literal sense than the alternative. Besides, that isn't important right now. To Rey, at least.
"Do you have enough to 'deal with' them? How much ammo do you have for that gun?"
no subject
"I'm a lot tougher than I look anyways. I'll be fine." That parts true. Maybe not the fine part, but he'll make it out the other end at least.
no subject
"There's an armory nearby." She gestures in the general direction, down the road. "It doesn't have guns or ammunition, but it is supplied with other weapons that could help you if you're ever in a scrape without a firearm."
Plus there isn't any harm in having a knife handy. Knives can be plenty useful for a variety of things.
no subject
Which means almost not at all. It's still a good threat while loaded.
no subject
"The closest thing you'll find there in terms of long-range are crossbows and the like. Pretty mideval stuff." Stuff that Rey doesn't have much experience in, but hey. There's a first time for everything when you've lived so long.
no subject
"So no one's found a gun around here?"
no subject
"No. The tech is pretty limited, next to nonexistent. Any munitions people own here were brought in from their own worlds."
Rey was not so lucky, but at least she doesn't need a gun to fight.
no subject
"I haven't swung a sword in a while and knives are a bit easier anyways. Can a lot of people around here fight?" If they can, it means Victor can focus on more detective pursuits in the future. He isn't the type to sit back and let others get hurt though if he can help it.
no subject
"A few of us can. Have more than enough military experience to be one of them." A detective she is not, though. She'd just leave that sort of effort to people like Nick -- and now, evidently, Victor as well.
no subject
He decides to ask her since she's so forth coming, "I was told the caves were a lost cause. Something about maps not working and lots of big ugly things waiting to eat you?"
no subject
And, considering the state of things right now, that's saying something.
