Event Log: The Hills Are Silent

Who: Everyone!
What: The Silent Hill event
Where: Throughout the city
When: June 15th-20th
Warnings: Silent Hill comes to Hadriel, and with it, a few personalized monsters

On the morning of June 15th, a thick fog rolls into Hadriel. There's nothing quite terrifying about it yet, but it manages to drain the city of color, forcing a grey backdrop onto everything behind it. Feel free to go try to check it out if you want, just be careful, because it won't be too long until the sirens start blaring.

There's not exactly a reasonable explanation for where the sound is coming from: Hadriel doesn't have a speaker system, or any warning sirens in place for when something horrible happens. But you'd better find cover quickly, because shortly after the sirens start wailing, the city begins to change. Walls and furniture start to peel, revealing a bloody, hellish version of the city that you once knew. In addition, the monsters from the bestiary will roam the city, as well as a few other monsters that might hit a little closer to home.

Some characters may run into monsters which embody their own sins or insecurities. Some characters may be pursued by their friends' hellish mirrors. One thing is clear: you don't want any of these things catching you. Luckily, it isn't long before Hope makes a post, declaring the god temples as safe zones from all the creatures that are now loose upon the city.

The sirens will fade within a few hours, and the city will fall back to normal, the monsters will retreat back into the fog as if they were never there, and everything seems to be fine again, as if that terrifying experience was just some kind of twisted dream. You can tell yourself that, if you like... but that won't help much the next time the sirens start again.

► This log covers June 15th-20th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► Any number of things could murder you here. If you wind up on the unfortunate end of Pyramid Head's chain, please remember to hit up our death post!

summer's here and the time is right for fighting in the street, boy. (closed to emily.)

Nick has been avoiding people like an avoiding thing since the shared dreams. Too much of her uncomfortable past had been revealed to too many people - not all of them friends - and she hasn't had what it takes to explain it all. So it's better to just avoid, repress, lather and rinse and repeat. That's easier for everyone.

She hates the gods here, maybe not quite as much as Sharon, but close. And while she doesn't appreciate what Sharon's doing, she also doesn't trust any of the gods to get close to any of their temples. She can look after herself. She's been doing it a long time now.

So she stays in her house, alone, hiding and holding her breath when things get bad, making quick trips to the shops for supplies when things are better. She's been lucky so far, able to outrun and hide from any creatures that happen to be in the area, and none of them seem to have an interest in her particularly. Some dark corner of her mind thinks that maybe they can sense that she's really one of them, and that's why.

Her luck doesn't hold forever, at least not as far as encountering people who saw her dreams. In fact, Nick finds herself face to face with the one person in all of Hadriel she'd rather never see or speak to again.

"Well, fuck." Her expression pulls into a sharp scowl. There's no way this encounter is going to end well.

i'll shout and scream, i'll kill the king, i'll rail at all his servants. (wildcard; open.)

(sooo i don't actually have a whole lot else planned for nick during this event but i am very happy to have her run into people during it! you can probably find her just about anywhere. hit me up on journal pm or [plurk.com profile] ventose if you wanna plot some specifics, or just throw me a scenario and i'll roll with it! c:)

"Fucking great."

Look, Emily's not glad to see this asshole either. They know way too much about each other now, and this isn't someone Emily wants to discuss any of that with. Hell, she doesn't want her to know anything about her past or her hopes, yet here they are, with all that knowledge.

In the foggy city.

Awkward.

Emily wouldn't even be out here if it weren't for the fact that she misses her sewing stuff (she made it a day into this shit, give her some credit), and yeah, she kind of regrets it now that she's face to face with this asshole.

And yet, there's no chance to yell at her even a little bit, because a coeurl turns a corner and spots them. Emily can only tell because of its growl (she listens better to her surroundings now, listens hard like when she was in the mines and every moment counted).

"Shit," she hisses, freezing in place, eyes wide, her hold on her bag full of sewing supplies. "There's-- there's something here."

At least they're in agreement about how much they don't want to see each other - something they could bond over, maybe, if they weren't busy metaphorically circling each other like cats with arched backs. Of all the people in this shithole, Emily is number one with a bullet on the list of those Nick would have never wanted seeing her subconscious. It's bad enough that her secret is out to people she considers friends, like Chris, or sort-of friends, like Kamina. She doesn't need an enemy like Emily to have any sort of advantage over her.

Thankfully - thankfully? - their unwelcome reunion is interrupted by the coeurl's appearance. The sound of the creature's growling raises the hair on the back of Nick's neck, and she stops dead still, not daring to turn and set eyes on the thing. "What is it?" she whispers, tense.

Are you fucking kidding her, Nick. You're a fucking Nightbane and your moron ass can't bring yourself to turn and face it?

"It's, uh, one of those big cat things?"

Fucking terrifying cat things, but that's par for the course in shithole cavetown.

"Shit, it's-- coming closer--"

And Emily is frozen to the spot because that's how she made it out of that goddamn elevator without getting clawed to death by the wendigo. A stroke of dumb like she's clinging to in what is today's most desperate hour (though it'll probably be topped at some point because fuck this? Fuck this).

"Do something!" she hisses. Emily has no weapons and zero powers. If they depend on her to survive, they're fucked.

Big cat thing isn't the best description Nick's ever heard, even though it's accurate, but it does mean that one thing it isn't is a goddamn wendigo - which means standing still isn't going to help them survive this. And Emily's insistence to do something means she probably remembers the dream (unfortunately), so there's really no point in Nick hiding her true nature anymore. Nick sets her jaw.

"Don't scream."

As she turns to face the animal, there's a fluid change in her appearance: she's about half a foot taller, clothed in black ribbons and lace fashioned into a Victorian-style party dress, dark curls of hair cascading over her shoulders and back. Her back's to Emily now, but once she turns around, she'll be able to see the large fissure cracked in the porcelain skin of Nick's forehead.

The coeurl growls again, slowly advancing toward them, and Nick throws up her hands and fires a bolt of dark energy in its direction.

To Emily's credit, she doesn't scream.

She doesn't scream when Nick transforms, she doesn't scream when the coeurl growls and starts towards them, and she doesn't scream when Nick attacks it with whatever magic it is she can do.

She doesn't scream when the monster howls as it's knocked back and onto its side, and she doesn't scream when it gets to its feet again, roars at Nick, and charges at her.

"Watch out!" is what she says, voice high and thin as she presses her back against the nearest wall, giving Nick and the monster all the space they need for their fight. (Maybe they need more space. Emily doesn't know. But she is helping, damnit.)

Nick doesn't need to be told - her entire attention is focused on the creature, so much so that she doesn't bother snapping at Emily, like she might otherwise. She takes a slow, lumbering step backward as the coeurl advances, and she doesn't so much scream at it as howl, a loud, inhuman sound that should stun the monster into a dead stop.

It's super effective! The coeurl freezes in place, and Emily's eyes go even wider than before, but now she's not as scared. No, now she has the feeling that Nick is going to win.

"S-Should I run?" She doesn't expecct an answer, but just in case, Emily readies herself to run, looking over her shoulder in the direction of Hope's temple. There's no way she can drag Nick with her if she does run, but... this is Nick we're talking about, the racist bitch that Chris is friends with for some reason. What would actually be lost if she died? She's just going to come back again anyway.

Nick turns around to face Emily, her shattered features now on full display. Nick isn't a born strategist, working mostly on gut instinct in any fight she's ever been in, but it doesn't take formal training to know that this battle's going to be easier to finish if Emily's out of the way.

"Go on," she says, her voice deeper and distorted, blue glass eyes unblinking. "Run."

The coeurl snarls, almost back to mobility again, and Nick turns back to hit it with another energy blast that shoots out from her hands.

That is so fucking freaky. If it were her first time seeing Nick as this doll thing, Emily would definitely be screaming. Funny how Fear wound up being helpful, dragging her into that dream, witnessing Nick's nightmare so that now Emily is prepared for this doll thing with the crack in her forehead and the creepy eyes. Why the fuck are people into dolls like that?

Nick doesn't need to tell her twice, though. As the coeurl starts to move again, Emily runs towards Hope's temple.

And even though she wouldn't say it to her, Emily hopes that Nick makes it out of this encounter mostly unscathed.
