Event Log: Regret This

Who: Everyone!
What: The Regret This event
Where: Throughout the city
When: June 25th-July 3rd
Warnings: Sorrow is resurrected, and everyone is immediately full of regrets

Hope has finally managed another god resurrection, and the people have spoken! On June 25th, he musters his powers and brings Sorrow back to Hadriel. An orchard appears across the river, in the until now ruined part of the city, and Sorrow's temple is also restored. Hooray! One more god to make things a little more livable in this place.

Of course, it's not that easy. It never is. Along with Sorrow himself comes a wave of regret and guilt that blankets the city. All those affected will be inclined to not only be sad, but to linger over past regrets and things they feel guilty about. They can distract themselves with everyday tasks or whatever else they please, but they'll find that their thoughts drift back to these regrets regardless of what they do.

And of course, the best way to purge a guilty conscience is confession, right? On top of these persistent sad thoughts, people will feel the urge to tell others about them, to air their past mistakes or misdeeds and possibly receive some kind of forgiveness. So what if your neighbor doesn't care that you cheated on your final exams all through school? You have to tell someone, and they're right there. If it doesn't make you feel better, that probably means you haven't confessed to enough people yet, or maybe you just haven't found the right person. Better try again!

On July 3rd, Sorrow has settled in and this urge to confess your sins will die down, along with the constant regret. Let's hope you didn't confess anything too personal. Remember, you're gonna have to see some of these people every day.

► This log covers June 25th-July 3rd.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you somehow manage to end up regretfully dead, please remember to hit up our death post!

[He had not expected to find another child here. Sure, he is far from having seen anyone, but people had both reacted so surprised at his presence here and been so overwhelmingly adults, and often older adults even - the only exception having been that strange and weak but nice older girl that he met upon arrival - that he just thought that he was the only one.

But he's not, apparently, and that is what makes him start to follow her around. Stealthily enough in his own ways to not be noticed unless she turns around and happens to look at him directly, standing there in a distance behind her, watching her with a smile on his face. She's not the best person to be around with how quiet she is, but she's breathing and moving around and generally being a living person and no monster, so that's always better than nothing.

And, well. He's curious. Curiosity killed the cat, but luckily he cannot die?]

[ Arya has met one other child here: Miriam, the girl with the dog. She knows that someone is following her, of course. Arya is trained in fighting blind -- literally. Being tailed by a person is nothing new. Ordinarily, she'd confront them, but she doesn't feel much like confrontation, lest more guilt come out of that.

Curiosity gets the better of her, though, as it always does. She's in the armory when she finally decides to take a look at her follower: after all, they could have picked up a weapon here. Her brow furrows when she sees someone so small, about as small as she. ]

Who are you?

[ She's not entirely sure he's real, honestly. ]
muscovy: (Is that so?)

I'm Muscovy M. Prochainezo.

[He tilts his head to the side slightly.]

Who are you?

[personal profile] whichend 2016-07-12 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Arya.

[ This child offers two names and a letter. Arya leaves off the "Stark." She's hardly a Stark anymore anyhow; she's barely Arya. ]

You've been following me. [ She says, bluntly. ] Why?
muscovy: (the most reassuring laugh)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-07-12 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Why not?

[If he was better at twisting his words right now, he could answer truthfully that he's started to wonder about why everyone is being so distraught lately, and that she seemed distraught as well. Both of which is true.

It's just not why he is following her. He just likes following people, and she's hardly less fun to be around than most others right now. And he's started to pick people who look like they might jump into the river to him, or something akin to that. His own kind of worrying; thinking that people are being very silly and shouldn't be, an emotion somewhere between annoyance and sadness because that would mean that he can't make friends with them in the future and because dead people can't be lively anymore. It makes his presence more intense, intense enough to be noticed. Not that he has fully realized that he is starting to worry yet, so he is a bit surprised that she picked up on his following her that easily.]

You are not a monster, yes?

[personal profile] whichend 2016-07-14 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ Arya frowns. She doesn't trust that answer. ]

You could be hunting me. You could want to capture or kill me.

[ Arya has lived in fear of that for years. It makes her wary, especially now. Does this child work for someone? Someone who could mean her harm? ]

I'm not the kind of monster who lives in the caves.

[ She's the night wolf. A different kind of monster. ]
muscovy: (just watching and listening)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-07-14 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
If I killed you you wouldn't be very lively anymore, and then we could never become friends and people would get very angry at me.

So it would be very silly of me to kill you, yes?

[Plus he doesn't like killing people. Sometimes you just cannot help it, but for the above cited reasons it is a lot better not to.]

[personal profile] whichend 2016-07-18 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That's.....the strangest justification for not killing someone Arya has ever heard. ]

Becoming friends doesn't happen like that. You can't just say it'll happen. People die, or leave, or lie. It's best not to try.

[ If Muscovy is sparing her out of friendship, then he shouldn't. ]
muscovy: (we're good)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-07-20 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[People dying, or leaving (it's really the same, in the end, at least if they leave to a far away place enough for it to be permanent), is a serious problem with hoping to make friends with someone. Lying not so much, you can fix that with some work and patience.]

So it is best to try to make them not die or leave, yes? As long as they are there you might become friends one day.

[If you become strong enough, or if they turn out that nice kind of person for whose friendship you don't need to be stronger.]

[personal profile] whichend 2016-07-27 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
You can't make them not die. All men must die.

[ Arya huffs. This child doesn't understand, and why should he? Arya didn't know any better when she was his age. ]

You ought to know that now. I wish I did. That way, no one can hurt you.
muscovy: (we're good)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-07-27 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Only if they are mortal, and even then they can live a few decades if you don't start a rebellion or the weather is being bad, or there is an invasion.

[Well, technically even then, but uprisings and other violent situations as well as periods of starvation for whatever reason just shorten the average lifespan significantly.]

And you can help them to not die sooner by being silly if you stop them from being silly.

[Silly, among others, including walking around alone in potentially dangerous areas with a face that looks like they are contemplating jumping into the river.]

[personal profile] whichend 2016-08-02 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Mortal?

[ Arya blinks and backs up a little, suddenly uneasy. She points her sword at the child again -- the child who may not be a child at all, but something far worse. ]

Are you saying you are not mortal? What are you? A god?
muscovy: (I can really have it?)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-08-02 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[That is not a reaction that he had expected. Maybe he should have, but he never had a reason to - he's always been around so many people who were some form of immortal that it seemed normal enough, and back home... he just is a nation. It doesn't come up as a negative thing.

Though back home he also would never speak of mortals, but of humans. But there are too many people in those other worlds that aren't humans to use that way of speaking and be even somewhat complete.

He doesn't shrink back, but he doesn't move either to not startle the other child further.]

I'm a nation, yes?

[personal profile] whichend 2016-08-09 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know what that is.

[ Arya's voice raises and her whole body stiffens, the layers of unknown making her tense. She's never heard the word 'nation' before. It could mean something dangerous. ]

Are you a danger?

[ Muscovy could easily lie, of course, but it doesn't hurt to check. He could still confirm the worst of her suspicions. ]
muscovy: (huh?)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-08-09 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
No.

[Why would he be?]

My lord father says that nation is word for countries and cities and tribes. Everything that is made up of many people that feel like they share an identity of blood, culture and living area, or at least two of those.

So I'm a nation, because I'm made up of people and soil and me. ...Though not here. I'm only me here. [Which is still weird to him, though he's gotten used to it by now. To being no more than a single person.]

I'm not dangerous. Why should I be dangerous?
