[After this. Bianca and Shadow appear in the clinic. Bianca is covered in blood and holding one hand over a hole in her lower ribcage, but she's making quite a good job of retaining her composure.]

Is there a bell I should ring?

[ Kate's in the middle of looking through an inventory list when they appear, scouring shelves and checking numbers against fact-

When she hears them appear, however, the relatively relaxed stand she was in disappears quicker than a person could click their fingers. Any alarm is a brief flash across her face before her brows knit together and she's darting over to Bianca's side, guiding her to one of the rooms for treatment. ]

What happened? [ Her voice is gunshot sharp and she glances down the corridor. ] Hakkai! [ The voice she uses to call him isn't nearly the same casual drawl she used to summon him when Jo turned up, looking to know more about the Clinic. It's all business. ]

[Bianca's voice is thin and rasping, her skin ghost-pale, but she holds her head high.]

You should see the other fellow, Kate, my love. I forgot he had a gun.

Who? [ Bianca may be a lot of things, but Kate is reasonably certain she isn't someone who kills without reason. Which-

well, there's one person who comes to mind. ]

[That was a very familiar way his name was being called and he knew it wasn't a good thing.

He follows the voice and the movement if people and it doesn't take him long to see the problem.]

All right. We'll clean it first, then I will close it. Please get her settled, Kate.

Miss, we'll have to remove your shirt.

[ Like you even have to tell her. She's already moving linens and freeing up the bed for Bianca to lie down, helping her to sit down on it if necessary. ]

[She makes a move towards lifting her shirt - a featureless black tunic - over her head, and winces.]

I think it may need cutting away. I'm so sorry.

On it. [ It's a good job Kate still habitually carries blades, even if she's trying to stay away from fighting. She whips one out and quickly moves to sterilise it before coming back to Bianca's side. Her gaze intent on the sight in front of her, shoulders tight and breathing almost deliberately measured, Kate works at slicing the fabric apart and peeling it from Bianca's body. ]

[Bianca, who gives precisely no fucks about public nudity, relaxes back and holds as still as possible while Kate works. It's noticeable that her breathing is shallow, and only happening on the unshot side.

It's actually Hakkai she addresses, when she speaks.]

Is this some kind of magical healing? You need to be aware I'm not human - the differences in my respiratory system are extensive.

[Hakkai gathers up the supplies needed to clean her off as Kate takes care of her shirt and gets her comfortable.

He's used to having to work quickly since he's been in all sorts of awful situations in his own world.

He begins to clean off the wound thoroughly so that no bacteria is trapped inside when he closes it up.]

Sort of.

That should be fine. That just means it will take a bit longer for me to heal you. But the mechanics of it should be the same.

[He's not 100% sure, but since it's just him pouring his life energy into another vessel, it shouldn't make much of a difference other than how much he's pouring.]

All right, here we go.

[He places his hands directly over the bullet wound and a green light starts emitting from his hands and flowing into the wound. It's a soft and warm feeling. If the bullet is in there, it's helping to push the bullet out of the body as the healing is accelerated.]

[ While Hakkai works at Bianca's injury, Kate moves to discard the fabric in her hands. It's done... incredibly smoothly, almost too calmly considering the blood soaking it. But she's in work mode now, and there's no time to let fear take hold of her.

She glances over at Shadow at the back, pausing for a moment by the bin and taking in his demeanour.

Ultimate lifeforms aren't quite so invulnerable as they like to make out, are they? ] What happened? [ As in, what exactly did Bianca do and why are you looking so worn out as well? ]

That sounds exciting - oh.

[Bianca gives Hakkai a radiant smile; and then the green light burns behind her ribs and she gasps.

Bodies are wired to feel good when things happen that are good for them, and Bianca's is wired far more densely than a human's. She has to shut her hearts and breathing down very deliberately, because her hearts want to leap in her chest, her breathing wants to match its speed to the fierce rush of her ribs and lung and blood vessels knitting themselves back together. It hurts - but it hurts so good.

Her hands clench themselves on the clean sheets of the bed where Kate placed her, and her eyes grow wide. She doesn't speak again till it's done.]

Oh. That may have been worth getting shot for.

[That reaction has never happened when he's healed someone before. Wow.

Once he's finished, he feels just the slightest bit dizzy because of the amount of time had to use his qi to make sure he was healing her properly. Thankfully, he hadn't been healing other people and running around fighting, so he didn't puke this time. But he would need a drink of water and a quick five-minutes to sit after getting her situated.]

Hahaha...I would ask you to please not make it a habit. But you're finished. I can't do anything about the blood lost, but the wound is closed and shouldn't scar.

Do you want something to eat to get your strength up?

[Bianca, relaxing in the warm glow of sudden restored health, reaches out to stroke Shadow's head.]

Thank you, my darling. Please be sure and let them know I surrender unreservedly.

Oh - would you be a love and put my axe somewhere safe? Perhaps Mello's firearm, as well.

[She turns a radiant gaze to Hakkai.]

So kind. I won't scar, I never do. I could certainly eat - and yourself? That must have been a considerable drain on your energy.

[ ... Of course.

Well. At least Bianca answered her question. And, honestly? Kate's completely done trying to get Shadow to talk to her if he's going to continue to rebuff every single question or sentence she says to him. She has too much to do to try and repair a relationship with someone who clearly doesn't want it.

Instead of approaching the group, Kate heads for the door. ] Need to write this up. [ It's something she could do afterwards, really, because they're not that hard up for time, not that innundated with people that she can't put together a report afterwards, but she has no other purpose being here now that Bianca's healed. ]

[Hakkai can feel the tension between the...hedgehog? that was just judging him and Kate. It wasn't any of his business, so he isn't going to ask. If Kate wants to talk to him later, he won't turn her away, however.

And it sounds like a full on crime happened, but that's none of his business as well. He's not the judgemental type when it comes to committing crime even if it's murder. Besides, everyone here comes back, so it's not all that severe other than, he supposes, the pain of it.]

Just a little, but I'll be okay. I usually bring extra lunch, so I can share it with you.

But first...

[He removes the cloth on his shoulder then his green, Chinese-style overshirt and drapes just the shirt onto her shoulders. He's left with a long-sleeved black shirt, so he's fine.

It's not that he cares about her being topless, that doesn't really phase him. It just seems rude to not provide temporary clothing for someone that needs it.]

You can borrow that until you get a new shirt.

[Okay, patient is mostly taken care of, he can direct some of his attention to the...hedgehog??? He speaks to both of them.]

[She's already decided to deal with the Guard topless - it'll help put them offbalance and emphasise how quickly she surrendered - but that doesn't mean Bianca doesn't appreciate Hakkai's good manners and gentlemanly instincts.
