Event Log: Extinction V.2

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Extinction event!
Where: All around the city
When: July 22nd-July 29th
Warnings: Fighting, the cruel slaughter of innocent monsters who definitely don't want to eat you, wholesale destruction, and maybe some painting

On July 22nd, Hope puts the call out for a little help with this monster problem he's been having - for the second time. In exchange for some prizes, he'd like you to go into the caves and kill him a few monsters! He'll be keeping an eye out and rewarding you for each kill, so grab a friend and a sword and get to work. Just try not to get lost in the caves - they're pretty extensive, and no one seems to have a decent map. Also, you know. They're full of slavering hellbeasts.

If you're not a fighter, don't worry! Hope also wants to clean things up around the city a little. There'll be caches of cleaning supplies, tools, paint, and other various piece of beautifying equipment available to find in the shops, and he plans to reward people for the time and effort they put in there, too! His sense of artistry is not particularly advanced, so don't worry about impressing him. You'll probably get an A for effort regardless.

For those characters participating in the beautifying portion of the event, please comment here with a brief description of what your character will be doing - for example 'painting three buildings and cleaning up the roads around the clinic'. If your character will be killing some of the monsters, please comment here and let us know how many they've taken out - for example 'three cacodemons and one troll'. For reference, here is a list of the amount of each monster that can be found in the caves:

Monsters
Bereskarn (10 1)
Blobs (3 1)
Cacodemons (14 0!!!)
Coeurls (4 0!!!)
Deathclaws (6 1)
Hunters (1 0!!!)
Malboros (9 1)
Mimics (11 4)
Rodents of Unusual Size (15 0!!!)
Skulltulas (12 5)
Smokers (5 0!!!)
Taxxons (8 2)
Trolls (12 1)
White Walkers (2 0!!!)
Wraiths (8 6)
Yeti (2 0!!!)

► This log covers July 22nd-July 29th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you happen to lose a monster fight or accidentally drink some paint, please notify us of your death here!

Whoa--

She doesn't jump out of the way in time to avoid her boots getting splashed, though. Kate hits the ground, a puddle of paint to be more precise, and finds droplets tracking all the way up to the thighs of her jeans.

S i g h. "That's for th' walls." Not the floor. Or her clothes.
muscovy: (what on earth)

Muscovy->Firo->Kate?

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-07-25 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Muscovy almost jumps when he hears the sudden crash and swings around, and then just-

stares at the situation for a long moment before replying: "We cannot put it on the walls anymore now."

That seems to be quite logical.

It's hard to argue with Muscovy's logic. Firo just looks at him, then runs his fingers through his hair to look at the woman.

An apology is probably in order. He'll get around to it eventually, but for now he's just grumpy from being caught at this task. "No need to get all smart about it. You ever heard of an accident, lady?"

Of course you can't. And of course she had. Half the things she does are accidents (just look at last month). But then again, Kate's never had the best inflection - several varieties of deadpan and a few of yelling is hardly enough to convey when she's trying to make a joke.

"You still got enough paint?" Yes, she did just ignore that. Entirely. There was some spare paint in the clinic, if needed.
muscovy: (got bunnies)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-07-27 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Muscovy quickly takes inventory and then nods, smiling brightly.

"Yes. I just cannot paint any pink or blue flowers anymore now." Or well, other things in pink or blue, but he decided on flowers and he's never seen the point of not going through with an original plan.

I because Firo made it quite clear that it would be bad for his reputation if people associated him with the flowers. And Muscovy is rather invested in the reputation of the person who acts as his adult and whose reputation by extension also shields or endangers him, because while a parent-child (or guardian-child, in this case) construction isn't exactly the same as a empire-territory construction, there are a lot of similarities in how they appear to others.

And besides, Firo is important to him and he wants him to be happy.

[personal profile] foundafamily 2016-07-28 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Firo appreciates Muscovy's discretion, but he only lets on with a short nod as the kid speaks. Far too manly to pain, that's him.

He taps one of the remaining buckets with the two of his shoe. Probably not the best idea after their spill, but he doesn't knock any more over as of yet. He nods again, this time to Kate. "Did you want some?"

[personal profile] dedikated 2016-07-28 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
She nods at Muscovy's assessment but doesn't bring up the fact that there are lots of things that could be pink or blue because - as a glance to the walls would show - it's clear that flowers is the theme for today.

"Nah, I'm reet," she tells Firo. "I'll see if I can find some more later." For them, of course, because most of the clinic directional signs she's painting have been in bright, eye-catching red.

There's a pause where she scrapes a drop of paint off her hand before asking; "How much have you guys painted?"
muscovy: (so you'll be my friend)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-07-29 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Muscovy glances up at Firo. How much have they painted? Definitely less than he planned on painting, but they still have time and resources. A lot, hopefully. They've only covered three streets so far, and Hadriel has many more.

"You can look at it." He declares instead. Because surely the flowers will cheer Kate up, and everyone can use the nice feeling that looking at flowers brings. Even people like Firo who can't admit to it because the place where they come from is silly about flowers. "They are on that street, and then the street on the left and the one around the right corner from its end."

[personal profile] foundafamily 2016-07-30 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Reet? Firo frowns as he tries to puzzle out that word, but after a moment he just chalks it up to more weird future slang he doesn't know. Kids these days.

Firo looks back at Muscovy and then to Kate. "He did all the work," Firo offers, pretending to simply give credit where it's due. Well, he is, right? If it's also serving Firo's own interests, then that's just incidental.

"I still don't know what Hope wants with all this stuff, but... it does brighten up the place." Unenthusiastic as he is, he doesn't want to insult Muscovy's art or put a damper on his spirits. "Have you been doin' anything, miss?"

She nods at Muscovy's declaration, casting her eyes down the street and following the trail of flowers. "Think I will," she decides, because she's taking a break now anyway, meandering her way to find something to eat before returning to work.

Kate kind of thinks it might just be to keep them all distracted for a bit, prevent idle hands and all of that. Which... she kind of tries to do herself anyway, but she won't say no to some new tasks. One can only distract oneself for so long with forced busywork. "Directional signs, mostly," she answers. Plus working at the clinic, but that would happen regardless of Hope's bribery.
muscovy: (look I'm making friends)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-07-31 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
That is a really good and practical idea. Making sure that people will be less confused and will find places more easily.

Even though it also means less chance at making friends because you can't do the first, minor indebting them to you by showing them around anymore. Not as much, anyway. There will still be chances.

"Maybe he wanted to see what we can come up with."

"What, like he thinks we're all artists or something?" Firo hopes that Hope isn't holding his breath.

He glances at Kate curiously. "Signs to what? It's not like this is a big city--people should be able to find their way around just fine."

"Outlet for the boredom?" she suggests with a pull of her lips to one side - it's a thought, anyway. And, as for that question;

"The clinic. Don't need people lost in an emergency." It can at least be helpful for the newer residents, who are still getting used to the place and its winding, curving streets.
muscovy: (that would just be silly. yes?)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-08-02 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"...That would be very silly, to think that we are all artists." But he's not sure how well thought out Hope's ideas are in general, so he still wouldn't discard the though just because of that. Maybe Hope does think that the door only brings in artists. "But maybe he he is that silly. And most people find something to do with themselves." More or less successfully, but he gets the impression that especially the people who can keep themselves occupied anyway are also the people who go out and do things for Hope's home improvement action plan.

Firo folds his arms and nearly leans into the paint before realizing his mistake and scuttling back.

"I don't know if I'd call him 'silly...' But he is a weirdo." He looks over at Kate as if to expect her, a fellow elder, to agree with him.
dedikated: (047)

[personal profile] dedikated 2016-08-03 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
As a fellow elder... well, she can think of a few words that are far less polite to describe him, but weird also works. "All of them are weird," she mutters in agreement, folding her arms and shifting her weight from one leg to the other. They definitely do not seem to be accustomed to humanoids. Or anyone else that came through the door either.
muscovy: (Is that so?)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-08-05 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
Rage makes sense.

[Not that he's had any direct interactions, but as far as things go, she seems to be a pretty regular person. Not necessarily a nice one, but nobody ever said that was required to be normal.]

[personal profile] foundafamily 2016-08-05 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Rage?" He looks from one to the other--for Muscovy, to check if he's serious, for Kate to check what kind of expression she has at this statement. Of course, he knows Muscovy's almost always serious, but he can't be the only one who thinks this is weird, right?

"Normally I might agree with you... but after all she's done?"
dedikated: (053)

[personal profile] dedikated 2016-08-06 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
She looks as bewildered as Firo does, confusion clear on her face for a few seconds before looking to one side, chin raised slightly. "Don't think any of them make sense." At least, not to the general populace that has been dragged in. Maybe they made sense to whatever came before the current residents.

It doesn't matter that much, though, because their people aren't here to find them sensible.
muscovy: (discovery)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-08-08 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
He was under the impression that most of what she does would be behaviour that could be found in some humans, too. But the other two have been here for longer.

"What has she done that a human would not have done if they could?"
foundafamily: (3.3)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2016-08-09 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Point..."

Cynical or not, Firo can't find much evidence to argue with Muscovy. How did painting turn into such a heavy discussion?

"Still, I think a lotta people wouldn't put that much effort into some of it. They wouldn't be so creative about screwin' around with others."
dedikated: (057)

[personal profile] dedikated 2016-08-11 09:14 am (UTC)(link)
Kate's seen enough shit to know that Muscovy does have a point, has watched the creativity of people blessed with mind control to know just how creative people can get with those sorts of powers.

All the same, it's different when it's being used on you, instead of for you. It's different when these actions are defended with this persistent line that the gods just don't understand how humans work.

(She sort of believes that line.)

"They're not human," she answers, almost dismissive in tone. "Probably a lot they've done that humans wouldn't." Although the events... yeah, some humans would.
muscovy: (Is that so?)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-08-11 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"A lot of people here aren't human, either. Or at least not proper humans."

Proper humans are mortal and don't have weird superpowers. And there are enough people that aren't human in much more obvious ways than him, too - looking at Shadow or Nick, nobody would think them to be human.

"And humans can be very creative in hurting others." But, he has to cede the point that- "Most humans wouldn't put that much effort into coming up with all of this, though." A majority of them still just wants to be left alone and live peacefully with their family. Well, once they're past their young adult years, anyway.

He can't help a wary glance at Muscovy when he mentions how some of them aren't quite human. He relaxes only when the topic veers elsewhere.

"Yeah. I mean, I wouldn't call 'em smart, but they're weirder than a lotta people I know, and that's sayin' something. I don't know anyone who'd feed others people, just a guy who ate 'em himself."

Muscovy's right. She isn't human. A lot of people here aren't, even if they appear it for all intents and purposes. Even if they're closely enough related to count.

But before we go onto musings of the state of humans vs non-humans, Kate's attention is taken by Firo's story. "That's. Disgusting." She sounds slightly more repulsed by that than she does a lot of things. "S'pose he didn't try to convert people." So to speak. That's his good point. His - as far as she can see - only good point. She's seen newspaper articles about people doing that shit. Feeding human to their neighbours. It's one of those things you wish you could un-read, really.
