On July 22nd, Hope puts the call out for a little help with this monster problem he's been having - for the second time. In exchange for some prizes, he'd like you to go into the caves and kill him a few monsters! He'll be keeping an eye out and rewarding you for each kill, so grab a friend and a sword and get to work. Just try not to get lost in the caves - they're pretty extensive, and no one seems to have a decent map. Also, you know. They're full of slavering hellbeasts.
If you're not a fighter, don't worry! Hope also wants to clean things up around the city a little. There'll be caches of cleaning supplies, tools, paint, and other various piece of beautifying equipment available to find in the shops, and he plans to reward people for the time and effort they put in there, too! His sense of artistry is not particularly advanced, so don't worry about impressing him. You'll probably get an A for effort regardless.
For those characters participating in the beautifying portion of the event, please comment here with a brief description of what your character will be doing - for example 'painting three buildings and cleaning up the roads around the clinic'. If your character will be killing some of the monsters, please comment here and let us know how many they've taken out - for example 'three cacodemons and one troll'. For reference, here is a list of the amount of each monster that can be found in the caves:

2 and whatever you like!
She doesn't jump out of the way in time to avoid her boots getting splashed, though. Kate hits the ground, a puddle of paint to be more precise, and finds droplets tracking all the way up to the thighs of her jeans.
S i g h. "That's for th' walls." Not the floor. Or her clothes.
Muscovy->Firo->Kate?
stares at the situation for a long moment before replying: "We cannot put it on the walls anymore now."
That seems to be quite logical.

An apology is probably in order. He'll get around to it eventually, but for now he's just grumpy from being caught at this task. "No need to get all smart about it. You ever heard of an accident, lady?"
no subject
"You still got enough paint?" Yes, she did just ignore that. Entirely. There was some spare paint in the clinic, if needed.
no subject
"Yes. I just cannot paint any pink or blue flowers anymore now." Or well, other things in pink or blue, but he decided on flowers and he's never seen the point of not going through with an original plan.
I because Firo made it quite clear that it would be bad for his reputation if people associated him with the flowers. And Muscovy is rather invested in the reputation of the person who acts as his adult and whose reputation by extension also shields or endangers him, because while a parent-child (or guardian-child, in this case) construction isn't exactly the same as a empire-territory construction, there are a lot of similarities in how they appear to others.
And besides, Firo is important to him and he wants him to be happy.

He taps one of the remaining buckets with the two of his shoe. Probably not the best idea after their spill, but he doesn't knock any more over as of yet. He nods again, this time to Kate. "Did you want some?"
no subject
"Nah, I'm reet," she tells Firo. "I'll see if I can find some more later." For them, of course, because most of the clinic directional signs she's painting have been in bright, eye-catching red.
There's a pause where she scrapes a drop of paint off her hand before asking; "How much have you guys painted?"
no subject
"You can look at it." He declares instead. Because surely the flowers will cheer Kate up, and everyone can use the nice feeling that looking at flowers brings. Even people like Firo who can't admit to it because the place where they come from is silly about flowers. "They are on that street, and then the street on the left and the one around the right corner from its end."
no subject
Firo looks back at Muscovy and then to Kate. "He did all the work," Firo offers, pretending to simply give credit where it's due. Well, he is, right? If it's also serving Firo's own interests, then that's just incidental.
"I still don't know what Hope wants with all this stuff, but... it does brighten up the place." Unenthusiastic as he is, he doesn't want to insult Muscovy's art or put a damper on his spirits. "Have you been doin' anything, miss?"
no subject
Kate kind of thinks it might just be to keep them all distracted for a bit, prevent idle hands and all of that. Which... she kind of tries to do herself anyway, but she won't say no to some new tasks. One can only distract oneself for so long with forced busywork. "Directional signs, mostly," she answers. Plus working at the clinic, but that would happen regardless of Hope's bribery.
no subject
Even though it also means less chance at making friends because you can't do the first, minor indebting them to you by showing them around anymore. Not as much, anyway. There will still be chances.
"Maybe he wanted to see what we can come up with."
no subject
He glances at Kate curiously. "Signs to what? It's not like this is a big city--people should be able to find their way around just fine."
no subject
"The clinic. Don't need people lost in an emergency." It can at least be helpful for the newer residents, who are still getting used to the place and its winding, curving streets.

"I don't know if I'd call him 'silly...' But he is a weirdo." He looks over at Kate as if to expect her, a fellow elder, to agree with him.

[Not that he's had any direct interactions, but as far as things go, she seems to be a pretty regular person. Not necessarily a nice one, but nobody ever said that was required to be normal.]
no subject
"Normally I might agree with you... but after all she's done?"
no subject
It doesn't matter that much, though, because their people aren't here to find them sensible.
no subject
"What has she done that a human would not have done if they could?"
no subject
Cynical or not, Firo can't find much evidence to argue with Muscovy. How did painting turn into such a heavy discussion?
"Still, I think a lotta people wouldn't put that much effort into some of it. They wouldn't be so creative about screwin' around with others."
no subject
All the same, it's different when it's being used on you, instead of for you. It's different when these actions are defended with this persistent line that the gods just don't understand how humans work.
(She sort of believes that line.)
"They're not human," she answers, almost dismissive in tone. "Probably a lot they've done that humans wouldn't." Although the events... yeah, some humans would.
no subject
Proper humans are mortal and don't have weird superpowers. And there are enough people that aren't human in much more obvious ways than him, too - looking at Shadow or Nick, nobody would think them to be human.
"And humans can be very creative in hurting others." But, he has to cede the point that- "Most humans wouldn't put that much effort into coming up with all of this, though." A majority of them still just wants to be left alone and live peacefully with their family. Well, once they're past their young adult years, anyway.
no subject
"Yeah. I mean, I wouldn't call 'em smart, but they're weirder than a lotta people I know, and that's sayin' something. I don't know anyone who'd feed others people, just a guy who ate 'em himself."
no subject
But before we go onto musings of the state of humans vs non-humans, Kate's attention is taken by Firo's story. "That's. Disgusting." She sounds slightly more repulsed by that than she does a lot of things. "S'pose he didn't try to convert people." So to speak. That's his good point. His - as far as she can see - only good point. She's seen newspaper articles about people doing that shit. Feeding human to their neighbours. It's one of those things you wish you could un-read, really.
