Event Log: Dazed and Confused

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Dazed and Confused event!
Where: All around the city
When: September 24th-October 2nd
Warnings: None!

On the 24th of September, you wake up and everything seems pretty normal. You've got to head in for your shift at the guard, or at the clinic, or wherever else people go- maybe you're visiting a friend, maybe you're checking out the library, but either way as soon as you step out onto your street, you're in a foreign location.

No, you haven't been transported anywhere weird. Well, not by anything other than your own two feet. And hey, you could recognize a landmark and know your way back from there! But somehow you turn left instead of right and now everything is confusing again. It's not that the city itself is changing, but rather, it's your ability to take direction and move in the way that you think you should.

On top of all that, of course, is the strange inversion of most abilities. Everything is topsy turvy with your various powers or individual skills, so be on the lookout for some odd changes. Maybe you're usually pretty good at reasoning and now you can't think your way out of a paper bag, or maybe you have fire powers that start shooting icicles instead- either way, it's weird. Hopefully you can deal with it without injuring yourself too much, but... well, it's kind of difficult to make any guarantees when you can't even find your way to the clinic when you accidentally break something.

► This log covers September 24th-October 2nd.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you walk into the lake and drown or have some other unfortunate mishap, please let us know here!

Nick is in Morphus form when she approaches - Ushahin, someone she recognizes, and he looks like he's in bad shape. Was he attacked by some monster or other? Nick's realized by now that she isn't the only one affected by this directional fuckery, and to add insult to injury, it's fucking up her control over whether she's in Facade or Morphus, as well as her more unusual abilities.

"Shit, man - are you OK?"

It's only because she's in Morphus that she has no inkling of what Ushahin's projecting. She doesn't hear his call for help, doesn't feel an invasion into her own mind - not until the transformation abruptly shifts and she's back in Facade again. Then she feels it - hears what he sends her way - drops to her knees clutching her head in pain. She hears the sound of someone screaming and belatedly recognizes her own voice.

He can't stop himself once he's inside Nick's mind. His powers, so carefully honed, wreak havoc. He sees her entire life in an eyeblink, the little daddy's girl who'd lost her father too soon and been left with an uncaring mother. The tough young woman she'd become, the best friend she'd made, and the pact they'd made to stay friends forever. The girl who had wormed her way past Nick's defenses and broken her heart. How she'd abruptly left everything behind only to discover herself to be a monster. All this he sees, and with a surge of power, tosses them all asunder inside her mind.

Then, as if to fill in the void he's created, his own memories are pressed in. The start, where there was only a boy without a name who wondered why everyone around him hated him for something he had no control over. The breaking point when he had been stoned, the people that passed by and let it happen, the final moment where a rock had shattered his eye and sanity alike all in a single moment. The long, happy span of years spent among the Were and later in the service of his god Satoris. The brutal ending, where everything he loved and cared about was brutally ripped away from him. Then came Hadriel and all that had happened in those few months, so short compared to his long life.

But most of all what has defined his life is pain. The physical side, each day spent with bones that never cease their ache and an eye that can't bear the slightest bit of light. Then there is the mental, a struggle to stay sane despite the voices that press in upon him on a daily basis. So it is the pain, over a thousand years of it, that is pressed into Nick's mind. Like a dead man with a finger still stuck on the trigger of a gun, he can't help but cause destruction in his wake. He's over one-thousand and two hundred years old and the sheer mass of his memories alone is enough to overwhelm even the sturdiest of minds.

Eventually, it ends, and Ushahin comes back to himself, if only for a moment. Blind to reality no longer, he realizes what he's done. A look of anguish crosses his face. "No. No no no no!" He fears this might have killed her. He's done it before many times, but almost always deliberately and maliciously. His strong right hand comes up to Nick's face, searching her eyes for any sign of life.

Nick learned early on in her life to never let on when she'd been hurt. If she cried when her mother slapped her, it only made her mother angrier, and made her retaliate with even more force. Nick learned to swallow her pain and let it transform into anger, a fire inside of her that kept her going through the years.

Ushahin's memories, thoughts, and pain are too great for Nick to tamp down - they're a tidal wave crashing against a shore of her mind, a tornado ripping up everything in its path. Even the death of her father is a drop in the bucket compared to what she feels now as her mind is invaded and battered and broken. It feels like every beating she ever endured from her mother combined and amplified into one steady barrage of punches; it feels like every time she's had her heart broken by the sudden ripping away of someone she loved and trusted added together and shoved underneath her rib cage like thousands of daggers; it feels like all of this and more, because it isn't just her own pain anymore - it's his too, and he has lived far longer than she can even imagine, and he has experienced the pain of a hundred lifetimes.

"Please," she gasps, blue eyes open wide but gaze unfocused, tears spilling over her cheeks, "please, stop."

She speaks and the sheer relief he feels drowns out the utter panic he's experiencing just for a moment. No, she's not dead then. He thanks his dead god for that small mercy. But she's been hurt badly by what he's pressed into her mind. If he were more in control of himself, he would be able to help repair the damage he'd done. Then again, if he was more in control of himself, this never would have happened to begin with.

The worst part is that he can feel what has bled over into her mind, yet he is helpless to do anything to stop it. She's broken now and it's all his fault. Her tears spill onto his right hand as he can do nothing to fix what has happened. "I can't. I'm sorry." He keeps repeating that, over and over again, though he's not sure whether it's out loud or something else he's spilling over into her head, but there the words are. I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry.

Already, it's hard to stay in the present moment, the tidal wave of voices affecting him already threatening to drag him back under. Would it be so bad, he thinks, to drown in them? All he's managed to do is hurt one of his friends. It's going to happen again, he knows it will. If this ever ends, all he'll be left with is his guilt and the reminder of what he's done to Nick.
