In all honesty, Souji is embarrassed more than he's in pain, though said pain is fairly significant. He hasn't been seriously injured like this since the Jaunt in Melasurei, when Yua ran him through with his sword, though he hadn't needed official medical attention then, since a) demons heal quickly, and 2) medical facilities didn't exist there anyway.

Still, he's embarrassed, and he even offers an apology to Simon once the doctor is attending to him and his broken leg: "Sorry to trouble you about this."

Simon may look a bit harried; his hair is disheveled, his shirt is missing the top button, and the dark circles under his eyes are approximately a million miles deep, but his hands are still as steady as rock and the smile on his face is as reassuring as ever as he looks Souji over. "You aren't a trouble, trust me," he says, examining the leg in question. "This is my job, after all. What happened?"

He feels like a bother, like he should be self-sufficient enough to not need to depend on a doctor to piece him back together. (Maybe if he still had his Personas, he would be able to heal himself. Maybe if he still had his Personas, he could do a lot of things differently - better.)

"I was fighting one of the dragons," he says, then adds - "I don't think it liked that very much." A thin smile scrawls across his face. "It swept me up and I fell - pretty far, I don't know exactly how high up."

Everyone needs a doctor eventually, and truthfully it's nice to be needed. Not nice that people are getting injured, necessarily, but...it's good to have a purpose. He likes that. It makes everything else seem clearer.

There's no bulges or lumps, and Souji's not screaming or in shock, so it's not a compound fracture. Impact isn't anything to toy around with, though, and Simon frowns just a little at the description. "I'm going to need to cut your pant leg so I can examine the limb directly. Sorry--I'll make sure we get you a new pair from the supplies. Hold still." Stepping over to the table again, he fetches a pair of scissors, baring skin. "Fighting dragons sounds like dangerous work. You're lucky you didn't get burned. Did you?"

Once the broken bones are set, Souji is left to wait patiently for the follow-up treatment, and while doing so, he ends up running through the battle against the dragon over again in his mind, analyzing the missteps that led to where he is now. He quickly pulls himself out of his thoughts once Pell arrives, though - sits up and places a pleasant smile on his face.

"Hello. Thank you for taking care of me."

Pell approaches with a smile, one that manages to make him look put together despite the strands falling out of his braid and the way his clothes look like they've been slept in, possibly on a couch somewhere in the back rooms of the clinic. His smile is for Souji, and it reaches his eyes warmly.

"Hello. Simon's set your leg, I've been told? I'm a healer, I'm going to hopefully get you walking again. Are you hurt anywhere else?"

"That's right." Souji nods. "Doctor Tam did a good job." (He guesses - this is his first broken bone. But surely he had to - he's a doctor, after all, and this is what they do.) "I appreciate your help as well."

Souji takes a moment to mentally catalogue the various points of pain in his body. Now that the leg has been set, that specific pain is fading into the background, allowing Souji the perspective to analyze the rest of what hurts. There isn't much - the broken leg was the most of it.

"Just my feet and ankles, I think - I landed pretty hard. It doesn't feel like anything else is broken, though, just sore."

"Doctor Tam is also thorough, he would have noticed if anything else was broken. But sore, I can do something about too. This might feel a bit strange... do you want to lie back?"

Pell gently works the brace off and settles his hands against Souji's leg, feeling with his mind for the break. Strangely, at the touch the pain fades to a dull, distant ache. That was the easy part. A tingling warmth spreads from Pell's hands to envelop Souji's lower leg, and there's a sensation of heavy pressure at the break as the bone knits back together -- still no pain, but it's probably uncomfortable. Pell's very focused on what he's doing, but remembers to say, "Tell me if it's too much."

Souji nods a silent agreement, settling back on the bed and folding his hands over his stomach. The sensation of his bone healing is definitely different, but it's not overwhelming. He inhales a slow, deep breath, exhales, repeats, and thinks that the feeling is not entirely unlike one of the healing spells cast by the Personas he and his friends used in battle against Shadows in the TV World - more targeted, perhaps. He wonders, for not the first time since breaking the leg, whether he'd even be here in the first place, if he still had access to those Personas.

"It's not too much."

"Good. I'm going to do as much as I can manage today. You'll still need the brace, and to come back probably twice more." He pauses, smoothes a hand over Souji's leg, then gets back to it. "We have crutches if you feel like you need them, but you should be able to put weight on it after this."

Awhile longer, and Pell pouring as much energy as he can into the healing, before he straightens up and lifts his hands entirely. With the contact broken the other aches make themselves known again, but they're better as well. He reaches out to support Souji as he sits up.

"I'm going to put the brace back on, then you can try very carefully to stand."
