Event Log: Fourth Wall, Part Two

Who: Everyone in the city + Fourth Wall visitors!
What: Part two of the fourth wall event, hosted by Sorrow, Rage, and Hope!
Where: All around the city
When: November 1st-November 7th
Warnings: Visitors from other worlds!

Welcome to Hadriel! Or, for those who have been here, please continue enjoying your stay. Perhaps you arrived here last week, and have been wandering around since then, making new friends. Or perhaps you've just arrived, and have no idea what's going on. You may have woken up in the colosseum, or near a temple, or in one of the numerous other locations in the city. You might be confused and frightened to find yourself in this underground city, or maybe you're just wondering why you haven't been sent home yet, when others have.

Whatever the case may be, the situation in the city has changed somewhat. There is still a gently glowing path leading you to a nicely-outfitted party, but the specifics of it have changed. If you're a new arrival, it'll be easy to follow the path and find the party - if you're not, well, the color of the light has changed, signalling that something's different. Maybe you want to check it out?

Around the clearing are gently glowing flowers, illuminating both the tables and the rest of the area, bright enough to make things clear even when the larger light at the apex of the cave is gone. On the tables are an array of different kinds of food - however, sampling this food will quickly make it clear that nearly everything is spicy, whether subtly so or with a burning heat. The cookies seem to have chili oil in them, the dip has jalapeno-like peppers. It's hard to find anything that won't burn your mouth a bit. If you're lucky enough to find something that doesn't, though, it will most certainly be somewhat bitter or quite sour. That doesn't mean the food tastes bad - if spicy and sour are your sort of thing, they're delicious! If you're looking for something more normal, though, you're out of luck.

Also on the tables are a variety of drinks, and these at least are not spicy. Instead, they're the sort of warm, comforting drinks that might remind you of home, of curling up in a soft blanket while rain falls outside. Warm cocoa, hot cider, teas of various flavors. Just the sort of thing to soothe a worried newcomer.

Decorating the area are various banners with welcoming messages saying things like 'HADRIEL' 'THIS IS A PARTY' 'EAT FOOD' and 'DO NOT DIE'. They are all identical, with large black block letters on plain white paper. They look very similar to something that you might print out on a standard office laser printer at the last minute if you have no discernible sense of humor or fun.

Scattered around can be found exciting party games such as pin the tail on the donkey and musical chairs. Here and there can also be found various pinatas of different types. Break them open, see what comes out! If you're really lucky it'll be candy - if not, it might be full of bouncy balls or cherry tomatoes. Good times!

Or maybe you don't like parties? No worries. The rest of the city has plenty of places to explore- maybe you'd like to stumble in our Silent Hill zone, have a quick look around the alien orchard, or check out any of the god temples that can inspire their chosen emotion. Be careful not to get lost in the tunnels leading away from the cave- none of them can actually move you above ground, but you may run into a few monsters on the way.

For those of you who came last week, here's your chance to help out newbies along with the people who have been here forever! Join in on the festivities if you like, or try to orient as many of the others as you can. Rule the newcomers at musical chairs, continue your fight club, pick up a second weird cave girlfriend and then watch as they dump you and hook up with each other! There's no end to the possible fun.

Enjoy the fourth wall event at Hadriel! Once you're settled in feel free to explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies.

Fourth wall characters do not enter with phones so they cannot reach the network- however, if you'd like to handwave that they somehow got ahold of Mello's Newcomer guide to avoid the 'where am I/what is this' sort of questions, then feel free!

Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers November 1st-November 7th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well! Fourth wall characters will not have posting access, so grab an in-game friend if you wanted to do anything separate from the main log.
► Fourth wall characters will be in the city for at least one week. If you want them to stay longer, our applications are now open!
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

Strange to see children in such a place. Though something about this one seems to entail that he is no normal child, despite his seemingly innocent demeanor.

Judging by appearances and her own disposition alone, one wouldn't expect this woman to have recently been returned from the dead. It's interesting, she thinks, that she can be reassembled into what appears to be her old form with such scant evidence of technology.

This city is curious, indeed.

"And why would you want such a thing?" IV returns, sounding more amused than anything else. Something tells her that she is not welcome here. Just a hunch.

"Because flowers should not move, yes?"

That is quite obvious if you ask him. Flowers shouldn't move, or speak, or shoot at you. Flowers should be friendly and quiet.

He looks up from the flower and regards her.

"And if they do they have to be taught that they shouldn't move. But I think this is a friendly flower, so as long as the mean flower doesn't manage to be a bad influence on it, it will be fine."

What a strange thing to say.

"Are you talking literal, or is this supposed to be a kind of metaphor for something?"

Because, if so, then she sure hasn't heard of it before. Nothing about mean and friendly flowers comes to mind, anyway.

Perhaps this could be a game, as well. Human children do enjoy their little make-beliefs, do they not?
muscovy: (I can help us)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-11-06 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Literal, yes?"

Why is that even a question? He always means what he says.

...Something is odd about this woman, but he can't put his finger on it. And it has nothing to do with her blatant disregard for the dangers of flowers being mean - that's something that she shares with otherwise very nice and even fairly sensible people, sadly.

It's possible for IV to grasp abstract concepts -- after all, she does desire the notion of an 'artificial soul'. This, however, just sounds like sheer nonsense to her. A silly child's fairytale, much like that boy whose mind she had torn apart years ago, crying out that his brother was a hero to the very end. That said brother would save him.

That particular tale, however, does not have a very happy ending. And IV is seriously doubting that this one in front of her does, too.

"I believe you've got that proverb backwards. 'Friends are flowers that never fade,' or some cliché of that sort."

Wishy-washy, really.
muscovy: (from the east)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-11-06 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Friends can fade, though. They can die or leave or be silly. Family doesn't go away, at least not forever."

He's staring at her now, smiling cheerfully and studying her way too openly and directly for it to not be perceive as rude - not that he would think of it like that. She is silly, but there is more to this.
witnesses: (how high the moon)

[personal profile] witnesses 2016-11-06 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"I never said that it was a good proverb." IV shrugs a shoulder.

However, the subject of family does indeed capture her attention. Familial bonds, be they of blood relations or adopted, has become something of a source of fascination for her lately. The lengths a living thing will go through for the ones they love, even if it hurts them.

With that, she cants a head to the side with a quizzical look. "Do you have family?"
muscovy: (Default)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-11-06 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that is something at least. "You shouldn't have brought it up if you don't think that it is good, yes?"

He'll never get tired of talking about his family. "Yes. My big bro and my m- Rey are here, but I have more that aren't here.

Do you have family?"
witnesses: (adieu lisbonne)

[personal profile] witnesses 2016-11-07 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
It would have been better if you had just called her your mom, Muscovy. In that instant, there is an immediate switch in IV's eyes. A glint. While she has been made aware of her little subject's presence in this city, it seems that she has been barred access. And with good reason.

As soon as it flashes, the glint dissipates. The entire time, there was always something about IV's eyes. Something about the cold, lifeless wasteland that is in her expression. Before, she had been paving it over a ruse, but now...

"No," comes an icy reply. "I don't have family. It is a social and biological paradigm that is beyond my understanding."
muscovy: (the most reassuring laugh)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-11-07 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Rey wouldn't have approved, right? And he's doing his best to not make her pull away again.

"It is very easy. If you care about someone and won't leave them, ever, and will do your best to protect them and you want to spend time with them, then they're family."

And he noticed that. Her eyes - her eyes are part of the problem. But they are a good lead in. "You are not human, yes?" The biological paradigm is what makes him sure of that. Every human would at least understand mother and father.
witnesses: (hard headed woman)

[personal profile] witnesses 2016-11-07 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, therein lies the overarching problem: IV doesn't care. For anyone. Even her dedication to her 'God' is questionable, because it is more of a sense of dutiful obligation than love.

Love hurts. This is what IV has learned from her observation of human nature. And yet, she still can't grasp it. Why someone would want to embrace such a terrible thing.

Rather than speaking her mind, IV just forms a wry smile. "No, I am not."
muscovy: (alone in the woods)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-11-07 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"What are you, then?"

There are a lot of people here that aren't human, himself included. But most have some kind of concept of family, even though it might not be a positive one.
witnesses: (cold cold heart)

"I am a synthetic. And there is evidence that others like me exist in this city." So perhaps he may know what she means.

Appearance-wise, it's hard to tell if this is a normal human child. She isn't able to sense that he is artificial, so he's clearly organic.

IV takes a moment to extract a cigarette from the inner pocket of her cardigan. Her chin lifts, eyes focused on the smaller creature. "Do you mind if I ask you a question, little one?"
muscovy: (from the east)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-11-07 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
He knows at least two worlds that have synthetics. But Nick never mentioned others... he doesn't think that Rey ever mentioned a woman, but there certainly are a number of other synthetics in her world. And many of them are bad news for Rey.

Is this woman bad?

witnesses: (i'm walking behind you)

[personal profile] witnesses 2016-11-07 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
If there is a word to describe IV, 'bad' doesn't even begin to cover it.

She grips her cigarette, giving her question a long pause before actually asking it. First, she takes out a lighter -- just a little something she had found at one of the shops. After striking the end, she takes in an unnecessary breath, only needed to ignite the cig.

"These people who you call family. Do you love them?"
muscovy: (we're good)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-11-08 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"They are my family, yes?"

He wouldn't call it love. It's something ...deeper, stronger, better. Love is just an emotion.

...Breathing. Did she do that before? His hands hang at his sides instead of being clasped before his belly now - completely innocent looking, still, but ready to pull out his daggers in two heartbeats. It's not the lack of breathing that is wrong about this person, but it just makes him think that she's wrong somehow all the more.

The word remains to be an alien concept to IV, and she still isn't sure what to make of it. Yet she has seen various sides of it, which tend to complicate her perception of what it means to be family.

"I have seen family hate, and I have seen family love. I have seen people forsake their children to live like dogs. I have seen them endure much pain and torture for the ones they claim to love, and many who still break in spite of that love." With another drag of her cigarette, IV exhales smoke through her nose and adds, "So, again. Do you love your family -- and do they love you?"

That is the important part. How much does anyone care about this child?
muscovy: (hello)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-11-09 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sometimes, people call a thing that is not family."

He tilts his head at her tone, his smile growing more blandly cheerful by the second, all actual joy leaving his lips.

"But that is because they are silly. Family does more than love one another. It always comes back together and it never stops loving each other even when you sometimes have to hurt one another. Family is eternal.

And me and big bro and Rey are all eternal for each other, yes?"
witnesses: (cold cold heart)

[personal profile] witnesses 2016-11-10 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
The sheer coldness is all too real, emanating from the air that surrounds IV. It grows even colder at that last part, though part of her is thoroughly entertained by the notion.

This child is living in a fantasy. His own little world where he has this cutout of a perfect kinship from a children's storybook. It isn't real, much less possible.

"You really believe that? That you are all eternal?"

Perhaps she would just have to see about that.
muscovy: (the most reassuring laugh)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-11-10 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"We are all immortal, yes?" In different ways, but they all at least have the clear potential for it. "Family is only about being eternal for each other, but we are kind of eternal in general, too."

Definitely getting ready to have his daggers in his hands at the drop of a hat now. That coldness reminds him of the General, just that he is sure that the General shouldn't be here. He hasn't seen him since his first month here.

And he knows that there are other people with abilities like the General's. Sure, it can't kill him, but that doesn't mean that a snowstorm can't spell trouble...
witnesses: (love is a many splendored thing)

[personal profile] witnesses 2016-11-11 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Theoretically, if you're looking at it from a spiritual perspective." IV, clearly, is not the pious type. Not anywhere close. "What people with illusions of eternity fail to gauge is that there is a fundamental similarity between mortals and those deemed immortal. And yes, that includes synthetics such as myself. We all exist with expiration dates, that's just how it is."

The shock baton, which she's been carrying attached to the back of her belt during her whole meander through the city, brandishes. Though not nearly as muscular in build, IV barely needs to grip the handle of the blunt weapon. Barely even has to apply her strength at maximum capacity when she swings the baton in one, blurred motion downward.

Such strength is enough to crack the boy's humerus upon impact.

"See, no one lives forever."
muscovy: (shades of blood)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-11-11 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
He manages to get an arm up before it hits his shoulder or head, but that isn't very good for the arm.

The bone shatters and he yelps in pain while jumping back and grabbing with his other hand for the dagger on that side of his hips. Luckily being able to fight equally well with both hands has always been a point of his training.

And he will fight. Normally, he might try to run - she is strong enough to spill trouble, at the very least, and he has no idea how to kill her. But she very clearly is a threat to Rey. He doesn't know why, but that he is certain of. A synth from that world who displays this kind of behaviour can't be good. Blinding white anger takes the place of what pain he feels. She is not going to hurt his family.

Disabling her will take priority.

So he dives down and lunges forward, going for her heels, hoping to slice at least one of the sinews there - a fallen enemy is a lot less troublesome than a standing one.

Cute. Though it is clear that he is smaller, the boy actually seeks to fight than flee. It just comes to show that he has something more to lose than his own, precious life!

IV processes his movements, but her reaction time isn't as hurried as a combatant type. Having various bodies and the ability to inhabit other vessels, she has never had a need to waste valuable data space on brawns and survival skills.

That doesn't mean she isn't going to go down so easy. Not without inflicting as much damage as she can on this reality. It would be better if she could see the look on the faces of this child's 'family', but this will have to do.

Once her prediction functions calculates his actions, the synthetic woman swings her foot up. The toe of her heeled shoe catches Muscovy under his chin in order to knock him back.
muscovy: (shades of blood)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-11-13 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
We hope that you like a hand grabbing your trouser leg while the other slams a blade in the back of that foot, pulling forward and using both his own strength and the force that she inflicted on his body to try and cut as deep into her heel, and possibly slice her foot off.

Yes, there is blinding pain in his head, but that is more annoying. Pain is a thing that exists, and it is scary, but it just is a thing. Sometimes you can't change anything about it, and there are more important things, so ignoring it is a perfectly viable option.
witnesses: Fever if you live and learn, fever 'til you sizzle. (what a lovely way to burn)

[personal profile] witnesses 2016-11-13 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Pain is an interesting thing. IV has only witnessed it on those that are capable of suffering. The synthetic woman, however, lacks the sensory functions to experience it firsthand. Instead, what registers are blips of warning signs, threats of damage done to the surface of her chassis. When Muscovy digs his knife in, there is a startlingly lack of blood. No bone, or muscle, or sinews to expose. In fact, beyond the flesh, blades have a difficult time piercing in general without a great deal of brute strength, so the child is going to have to apply a lot of that in order to sever any limbs. It's all metal underneath.

Still grasping the shock baton, IV activates the stunner. Not too high, but just enough to send a sharp jolt through Muscovy's body when she jams the tip of it into his shoulder.
