I was on my way to heaven
Who: Hakkai and anyone who wants to see him?
What: Hakkai had to get the stuffing knocked out of him or he was going to shred people to ribbons. Now he's recovering...sorta
Where: Clinic
When: November 29
Warnings: TBA
[Hakkai wakes up with a soft groan and the feeling that he's been hit by no less than a thousand buses. In fact, he probably would have preferred to be hit by no less than a thousand buses than the reality of the whole thing which was--
What was it exactly?
There were voices at first, lapses in memory next, and then no memory at all of how he had come to wake up in the clinic bed with every inch of his cellular structure aching. This wasn't an unfamiliar feeling, but it wasn't exactly the most welcome either.
He finally turns his head to the side to look at his surroundings. His neck makes a soft pop from the stiffness from laying in bed for so long.
Hakkai had a sinking feeling that he had done something not so good. Not that he was normally doing good things, but worse than normal.]

which is probably why she's lying down on one of the free clinic beds during her break, when Hakkai's form stops being quite so still out of the corner of her eye. )
Afternoon.
( welcome back to the land of the living, figuratively speaking. )
no subject
Oh great.]
Good afternoon.
How many apologies do I owe, exactly?
no subject
( despite everything, she's not as badly off as she could have been, in terms of injuries. and that's enough. )
How much d'ya remember?
no subject
[Hakkai moves his arm to rest the back of his hand onto his forehead. Yeah, that aches, too.]
Do you know that feeling you get when you wake up from a dream and you know that it was a nightmare, but you can't remember the details?
no subject
You remember those monsters turning up?
no subject
People were calling them demons.
[As he said the word "demons", he was hyper aware of his claws and pointed ears.]
no subject
Turns out they could possess people. Guessing one got a hold of you at some point.
( she doesn't know when, or which, really. never bothered to learn enough about them to differentiate. )
We needed to stop you from hurting anyone.
( other than the people who did stop him, anyway. everything she says, presented evenly, slowly. facts being recited.
it's easier that way, for her at least. to think of it as a report, an answer rather than a recount of events, of the panic that gripped her or the exhaustion that washed over her afterwards. )
no subject
It's always been a plausible thing that he would need to "be stopped" after becoming a demon. He should have "been stopped" before that.
And as he has these thoughts, it starts becoming clearer on how he might have become possessed.
He's always been an emotional wreck. He doesn't know how to deal with things properly and he's still dealing, but it's harder without help.]
It looks like I owe you the first apology then.
no subject
but it's too late now. Kate inhales, closes her eyes for a moment. it had been a difficult time, even before Hakkai had been possessed. one where she didn't sleep, or at least not enough. where the fighting and the clinic had both been a seemingly unending stream of tasks.
she almost shrugs the apology off, out of reflex, but stops herself. )
Sure. ( if it helps. and when did she stop being quite so fine with taking an apology? when did it move from an angry you better be to a it's nothing? how old had she been when that changed? Kate can't remember. )
Couldn't find your limiters. ( she tried, but after he was down... well, there was no time, even then. )
no subject
He just shakes his head at that.]
They'll turn up somewhere if...whatever possessed me didn't scatter them all over the cave.
If I can't find them...
[Then what? He's not about to start asking gods for favors again.]
I'll think of something.
[Hakkai sits up in spite of the pain everywhere. He feels like he deserves to feel it in a way, for letting this happen.]
So then...this is also me. What do you think?
no subject
they can cross that bridge if and when they come to it, because in spite of herself, Kate's lips quirk. a semi-smile. it's still Hakkai. that's the most important part, it's still someone she considers a friend. )
Seen scarier.
( yeah, even if she knows, far too well, that Creatures aren't all evil. that most of them are just wanting to live their lives-
well, that doesn't make them any less unsettling to look at. so he could look worse. )
no subject
[That actually brings him to smile. It's a little more awkward looking and not as seemingly warm as when he looks human, but it's still a Hakkai-smile.]
What is this clinic going to do with the both of us laying in the beds instead of at the front?
[His smile grows a bit more.]
no subject
Bruce'll have to stop painting the colosseum.
( okay, it's a useful project, but poking fun at it helps make things feel a little less like they're all screwed. but more seriously; ) Place ran before us. It'll run without us for a while.
no subject
[It hurts to laugh--a lot. But it does lift his spirits.]
And you can finally get some rest.
no subject
because 3 hours sleep isn't enough even for a superhuman, you dope. and most of the time you barely get that.)no subject
[But this is classic pot calling the kettle black considering that he was thinking of doing a bit of tidying up even in his condition.]
no subject
but, they'd go around in circles trying to get either of them to admit it. )
You still staying in that house?
( admittedly she hasn't dropped by in a while, but that-
well, the houses aren't small. and Kate's never been one to like empty space. moved into a studio apartment after Marc's death and never looked back.
all the space is just memories of the people who aren't there, for her. )
