Event Post: Everyone Chill

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for Tranquility's resurrection event!
Where: All around the city
When: December 27th-January 7th
Warnings: Absolutely nothing creepy or weird at all.

The revival of Tranquility on December 27th marks a vast - if temporary, and actually completely fake - change to the city. Upon awakening that morning, the inhabitants of Hadriel will find the city changed from its usual broken-down dour cave self into a sparkling, clean, delightful island city. Instead of being surrounded by hard stone walls, the city is surrounded by warm ocean waters and soft white sand beaches.

Gentle waves lap at the shore, the sky overhead is perfect, wide and open. The spires have been replaced by shining skyscrapers, the roads are clear of rubble and paved neatly. The stores are quaint, windows no longer broken, and the items inside have changed too. Instead of simple canned goods and strange clothing, you might find delicate pastries, cool drinks, fresh fruit, and flowy summer clothes to match the city. How nice! How calming, really. Didn't everyone need a vacation? So throw on some flip-flops, grab one of the mopeds that have been provided, and enjoy yourselves!

As the days go on, though, you might notice one or two odd things. Maybe the pretty sun hat you picked up looked, for just a moment, like a grubby old baseball cap instead. Maybe that beach ball is a little heavier than it should be. Maybe the shining wall of that skyscraper feels more like stone than glass. Maybe - just for an instant - the sky above was solid rock instead of the gentle, calming hues of the sunset.

While there is a mild compulsion toward calmness and tranquility, towards accepting the city for exactly what it seems to be, that can be ignored - and the illusion can be broken, if you choose to try. But do you really want to? Isn't that croissant much nicer than yet another can of beans? Wouldn't you rather relax at the beach than run around, trying to convince all your friends that this is just the gods getting inside their heads again in an even more creepy and all-encompassing way than usual?

Come on. Don't be a buzzkill.

The illusion of the city has been plain and clear from the start. While Rey does not find herself partial to the cheap tricks of the gods, especially when they reveal themselves to be very flawed right quick. After a while, the mirage fades, and the peaceful calm that the picturesque environment has been intended to inspire dies.

Contrast to the bright colors and temperate city scene, Rey is a dull nail that sticks out. Not decked out in the bright garbe or wasting time to chill by the beach, she instead wanders the streets looking for clarity in the deception. And also waiting for it to end, like all things do.

Before long, she discovers that she is not the only one, as Ushahin is expressing the exact opposite effect of the deity they had supposedly opted to resurrect.

"You know, it's a surprise that they haven't mentioned a god named Insanity among them."

Fuck knows they'd have plenty to feed off from, if Ushahin is any indicator.

Ushahin turns to look at Rey, his eyes taking in her physical appearance. His mind reaches out, just a gentle brush against her's to center himself. He blinks a few times, willing the illusion away from his mind. "Madness is something anyone can slip into with enough time." His mind and pain keep his powers the way they are. Without them, he might lose his way.

He's not a very physical person save with those that he knows very well like Shadow and Nick. His hand reaches out, fingertips brushing over Rey's arm very gently, centering himself to keep from falling any further into the darkness of his mind. "You. You're real. You don't change."

Insanity is a state that Rey is more familiar with than she wants to admit to anyone. She lived it all those years after her memories merged, and she no doubt had reached that point at the sky prison. Enough time spent by her lonesome, deprived of food, water, and sleep, it takes a toll on both the body and the mind.

Rey doesn't withdraw this time, though. Not from the mental reach or the physical one going for her arm. She glances down, then blinks at Ushahin himself, who seems like he's seen better days.

"Well, yes, am real. But have always been very... disposed to change."

Both in herself and in the situation surrounding her. In a way, it helps. Teaches her to adapt -- how to be with people, and how to lose them.

For now, she might very well be embracing the insanity by not bothering to fight this illusion around them.

She sighs. "Does all this really bother you that much?"

"Ah, yes. The others in your mind." He's seen enough of that in Rey's head to know he won't like it if he goes poking around in there to find out more about the various women that she's been. He much prefers her as she is right now. He withdraws his hand away from her arm, the brief bit of contact enough for him.

"I don't like lies. That is what an illusion is." He's adept at them himself, not that he's used that particular part of his power much in Hadriel. He's done enough to alienate people on his own terms without giving them another reason to hate him.

The way he phrases it is more than uncomfortable. Rey has never liked thinking of them as 'people' in her head, even if that's what they are sometimes. Ghosts screaming from every crevice of her mind. Sometimes helpful. Sometimes goading. More often the latter.

"Am used to it." She shrugs. "But, can see what you mean."

Rey has lived so many lives in illusion that she almost forgot how much she hates having her head fucked with.
