INTRO LOG: WELCOME TO THE BATCAVE

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for January.
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: January 10th-15th
Warnings: Bats, but not Batman. Weird arts and crafts. Confused newbies.

You awaken on the hard-packed sandy floor of the colosseum. As you blink the sleep from your eyes and begin to try to get your bearings, you might hear the gentle, soothing sound of wind chimes tinkling through the air. It's a peaceful sound, a pleasant sound. As you look around, you'll find tall stands with curved hooks at the top here and there throughout the arena, each supporting a different handmade wind chime.

You could stay and enjoy the sounds, even if what they're coming from is a bit less than aesthetically pleasing. Or you could pause for a moment and wonder where the wind that's sounding the chimes is coming from, considering you're in a cave. There are breezes in Hadriel now and again, but what's causing this wind is something else entirely. Spend too long out in the open and you'll find out what.

Perching atop the broken walls of the colosseum, hidden in crevices and shadows, are a number of Ahools. These giant bats can have wingspans as big as 12 feet, and they're certainly strong enough to lift smaller and lighter people off their feet entirely, carrying them away to devour at their leisure. Don't think you can hide - their echolocation will find you as easily as a bat finds a moth in the black of night.

If you manage to escape the Ahools and get your bearings, feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies until your belly is as full as that giant bat's was supposed to be. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[ Well. There are a lot of things that could end up needing to be shot. Like bears and yetis and stuff. Don't shoot people though or... something. Vaiz wouldn't appreciate being shot.

He also doesn't appreciate when someone walks in on his snack run. That is, he wants to go through the stores for food in peace, but getting upset would just be a waste of energy that the constantly sleepy and spacing out Killer doesn't have.

He just blinks up at the stranger, where he's sitting cross-legged on the floor with a box that he's going through in his lap. ]

...hi?

[ He blows some bubbles at him, but it's just soap bubbles (though he has no soap with him, they just.. come from the straw anyway.) so no harm can be done with them. Unless he intends for them to cause harm. ]

New or not?

[ He can't really keep up any more. Or from the start. ]

[hollowly]

( he isn't in the habit of shooting people, don't worry. unless they turn into monsters – or have done something especially terrible that merits such a punishment – he'll be saving those precious few bullets for what really needs them.

what he isn't expecting is to nearly trip over someone sitting in the floor going through a box, and while he manages to catch his balance and keep from toppling like a tree without even so much as yelling timber, he gives the guy in the floor a bit of a Look.

especially when those bubbles are blown at him. really, dude? are you five? )

Uh, hey. ( blink. ) Yeah, I've been getting asked that a lot since I woke up. ( and almost got eaten by giant bats. ) Is that a trend around here?

[ There's a blank look on Vaiz face, and that Look he's given goes completely over his head because he sucks at reading people. He doesn't really try, to be honest.

He's over 20, but the bubbles are for other reasons than childishness. Though there is that too (he's the space-case kind of adult child, sort of). ]

You mean asking? [ He shrugs. ] I suppose, since new people pop up sometimes.

[hollowly]

( ah. one of those. this is going to be interesting.

he folds his arms across his chest, taking up a non-threatening stance just in case the nonchalance in the conversation takes a turn. ( not that he's really expecting it, but it's better to be on guard than to be caught off of it, and that's a way of thinking that he's been harboring well away from a very young age. )

he nods, and then: ) How often does it happen?

[ He wouldn't know until Vaiz was upon him, if he decided to fight. He has absolutely no reason to, though, so there is no reason to worry. ]

Mmm... [ He has to put some thought to it. He doesn't really pay attention, because that's boring, so it takes a few moments. ] Once a month? Maybe on the mark? [ It might be a week this way or that, he's not sure about the exact dates. The most recent time he actually had a date to keep was for the E3 contest, and he had had interest in that since Tejirof was competing. ]

[hollowly]

( remind him never to get on your bad side, vaiz. you sound like an incredibly powerful ally, and an equally powerful enemy.

not that he would have much trouble thinking of you as an enemy with the way you're blowing bubbles.

he takes that in, though, adds it to the slew of other things he's already managed to figure out, either on his own or by way of absorbing it from those he's met along the way. )

That sounds too uniform to be an accident. ( which means, of course, it has to be happening on purpose -- but he's parsed that much already, and he moves right along. ) Doesn't that seem weird to you?

[ Thankfully Vaiz is also very lazy so he tends to refrain from fighting unless he has to.

And his bubbles can be deadly, thank you very much. ]

I don't think the gods wears uniforms. [ He says that without thinking about his words too closely. Then he realizes that that wasn't what he meant, but decided that it was whatever. ] The gods have different power peaks? [ He thinks. ]
