EVENT LOG: EXTINCTION V.1

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Extinction event!
Where: All around the city
When: January 24th-January 28th
Warnings: Fighting, monster-killing, blood and guts, senseless destruction of endangered species

On January 24th, Hope puts the call out for a little help with this monster problem he's been having. In exchange for some prizes, he'd like you to go into the caves and kill him a few monsters! He'll be keeping an eye out and rewarding you for each kill, so grab a friend and a sword and get to work. Just try not to get lost in the caves - they're pretty extensive, and no one seems to have a decent maps. Also, you know. They're full of slavering hellbeasts.

Or if you'd like to sit out the fighting and collaborate on a way to relieve some of Hope's burden in some other way, you can do that too. He'd appreciate the help. Lastly, feel completely free to do absolutely nothing. You won't get a consolation prize, but you sure will avoid getting eaten by monsters!

If your character will be killing some of the monsters, please comment here and let us know how many they've taken out. For reference, here is a list of the amount of each monster that can be found in the caves:

Monsters
Ahools (14 3)
Coeurls (16 4)
Dire Bears (11 0!!!)
Grey Children (21 0!!!)
Hunters (7 1)
Smokers (11 5)
Taxxons (9 8)
Titanoboas (6 0!!!)
Trolls (15 12)
White Walkers (3 2)
Yeti (9 2)

► This log covers January 24th-January 28th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► Please let us know how many monsters you've killed right here!

Rey | OTA

Teamwork is not Rey's strongest suit, and it isn't like she has anyone here she can call a friend, anyway. So, at Hope's request, she not-so-prudently obliges hoofing it on her own through the depths of the cave's tunnels.

While she doesn't venture out with weapons, she isn't what you could call defenseless. Some may even recognize the peculiar armor; now with the hood drawn up over her short hair. From a distance, her figure makes it difficult to tell whether she's male or female, but one thing is certain: She is traveling alone.

It may not be the brightest idea she's ever had, but Rey is of the mind that her skills are more of a hazard to others than if she were to go it alone. Without a gun or a rifle, she isn't much use against something as big and formidable as some of the creatures she has seen thus far.

One may find her in the depths of the tunnels, stalking what appears to be a giant bear with a head crowned by horns. It's bigger than most bears, with a much wider set of claws on each paw. All that comes to mind is a single thought, though...

"You look like you could be dinner," she mutters to herself, her eyes narrowing as she assesses the beast. In fact, the bear looked like it could be a whole week's worth of dinner, now that she thinks about it.

The idea was the rely on Hope as little as possible. To distance herself from these things that call themselves 'gods', if she could. Figuring out how to feed herself rather than depending on the food one of the said 'gods' provide them is a good place to start, she would like to think.

"Eaten them before," Rainier comments quietly, to not give them away to the bear. He'd been separated from his team in the tunnels and searching for them, coming upon Rey and recognizing her armor once more. "They don't taste good, but they'll keep you from starving."

Which was a real possibility before Hope realized they needed to do things like eat.

As disappointing as it is to hear about the animal's taste (you spend over nine decades without that particular sense, you come to appreciate flavor), Rey isn't deterred.

"Was more concerned with whether or not they'd make adequate sustenance." She knows that bears are carnivorous, and thus require to be cooked in a very careful way. "Will split the meat if you help."

They're also covered with the strange bone spikes or whatever those are. They have something like that in Rainier's world - it means they carry a highly infectious disease back home. These ones, thankfully, seem safe. That was a scary few days as he waited to learn via trial and error.

"Sounds like a solid plan." He doesn't ask why she has a problem with the food they're provided. Pure stubbornness seems perfectly reasonable to him.

If one isn't thorough, normal bears can carry all sorts of parasites that can kill a person. But seeing that Rey herself isn't normal, and neither are these bears from the looks of things, she isn't all too concerned.

She glances to him.

"Will distract it from one side while you try and flank it from the side."

Rey doesn't even wait to ask him if he agrees before she's marching out of hiding and into the open, summoning the animal's attention away from Rainier's position. She strafes to the right side of the cavern clearing, yelling to keep its focus on her.

Rainier is usually the one playing distraction, being a solid wall of person, but he's also damn good at following orders given and had no intention of protesting however Rey wanted to do it.

She's a good distraction, and Rainier moves faster and quieter than one would expect from such heavy armor. Flanking the beast isn't a difficult task, and he only waits until he's in position before moving to attack. He has no intention of letting her fight on her own for longer that humanly possible.
