Event Log: All You Need Is Love

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for Love's resurrection event!
Where: All around the city
When: March 25th-March 28th
Warnings: Self-love (not that kind), outpourings of affection for friends and loved ones (maybe that kind), general good feelings

On the morning of the 25th, everything in Hadriel gets just a little nicer. Or maybe that's your outlook - after all, loving yourself makes it a lot easier to love everything else. That's right, Love is here, and it's time to get your self-acceptance on. From the moment of Love's revival, all the inhabitants of the city will feel a sense of acceptance, appreciation, and love for themselves and for the people around them. They'll be more inclined to give themselves a break, more inspired to show their affection for their loved ones, and more likely to forgive enemies - or at least ignore them, rather than start fights. Overall, the air in the city is full of love! It's up to you whether this affects your character strongly or not at all, but it won't force them to do anything extremely out of character - it will only gently push them toward expressions of love, both platonic and romantic.

Along with this warm, pleasant feeling of love comes the hot springs you all voted for. It appears near the lake, not far from Love's temple, walled-in but with no roof except for the (separate) changing areas. Within you can find a few different pools of differing temperatures, all the better to soak all your worries away!

In addition, all throughout the city you'll find new items in the shops for a short time. Anything that might help express your love for yourself and for others - fluffy blankets, stuffed animals, snuggies, exotic-smelling candles, and some nice bubble bath and skin care products will be left on display - everything in a nice shade of light pink, of course. The buildings will be draped in pink streamers, and you'll also be able to find a variety of delicious sweets - stuff yourself or feed them to your significant other, or maybe leave them on the doorstep of the person who you wish was your significant other.

Enjoy all this love filling the cave, and give yourself a break! You're gonna need it.

► This log covers March 25th-March 28th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If somehow you manage to die during this event, know that we judge you. Also, please tell us here.

A day passes, maybe more. You'd think that would be enough time to cool down, but all it does is give Rey more time to boil.

Good thing no one's suggested going to the springs to her, or they just might have 'spontaneously' combusted on the spot.

To say that she's 'seeing red' would be an understatement. Between Love's revival and the way people are behaving, those inclinations of self-care are drowned by visions of blood. It's all she can see anymore. Close her eyes. Blink. Even distractions fail to placate when all she can do is imagine atoms splitting apart in her mind's eye. Dismemberment. Violence. Piercing the knife sheathed at her belt into that bitch's throat -- again and again and again and again...

Since she can't kill Love, then she'll just have to find another outlet.

Fortunately for Rey, Rosie just happened to give her an excuse.

She hasn't spoken to Nick, or anyone else who tried to intervene, since closing down her phone. Despite every niggling urge to open it, skim to find one more reason to stick a knife in some poor bastard's face, a tiny voice in the back of her head screams against it...

It's not worth it. Let it go. You're better than this. Not her words. Nick's words. He still thinks she's a good person. Can rise above what she is and was made for. Sans seems to have his own similar opinions on the matter as well. What do they know?

The walk hasn't done her mood any favors, either. Neither does the chance sight of her most recent and most convenient antagonist.

Time has done nothing to facilitate the red. It clouds her vision once again as her hands ball up, one closer to the knife's hilt than one would find comfortable.

Too soon. It's much too soon.

Who cares?

The target of Rey's ire actually vaults from the top of a nearby dilapidated building literally just a few yards in front of her. The structure was only about three stories tall but she stumbles. That impact hurt more than it should have. Her bones feel brittle, her body weak. "Huh," she hums thoughtfully, kicking into the ground absentmindedly as if testing this newfound fragility. She pulls back the hood of her wolf onsie (a bit of a running joke during this event) revealing her blond head of hair.

There's a damper on her heightened senses too. Sounds are muffled, smells dulled, and she can't see as far as she used to. Finally, she recognizes that she's not alone and glances behind her. "Well, hey," she greets, chipper as ever. As if nothing even happened between them. To her, it really hadn't. A teasing text conversation that she thinks was hyperbole on Rey's part.

Even if she hadn't thought as such, threats to her person are taken lightly. Rose has been in more than a few fight or die situations that she knows she can get out of them alright. Being 'champion' of the ring didn't come without a tiny bit of arrogance, she supposes. She was good at what she did, even if she didn't like to do it. Now it translates to 'being made of tougher stuff.' Rose can battle with the best of them if need be.

That was when she was at full power, however, and there are signs lately that she's not. So instead of arrogance it comes across as a certain sort of carelessness. This disregard for her wellbeing has always been present but recently seeped into every facet of her being and stained deeper than before. So what if she dies. Someone else taking her life is less cowardly than taking her own. A loophole to the promise she'd made all those months ago in Haven's darkest days.

A twisted, broken part of her almost wants to see what the end here actually is like.

"Looks like you're still fired up."

This should be seen as absurd. Something to laugh up at the end of the day. Between the discourse over something so seemingly innocuous as a list. It's silly, irrelevant in the grand scheme of things -- not to mention unnecessary. Did Love really need a list in order to know who was romancing who?

But Rey has been compartmentalizing in the worst, most unhealthy way. Instead of reveling in the warmth of care and self-love, loathing overwhelms. Turns into a fiery beast that's been screaming and thrashing in its cage. There have been times in which Rey has turned a weapon on herself to solve a problem.

This? This isn't solving any problem, except that it'll help make her feel better. Or, well, she sure as hell seems to think so.

Rose's sunny response only serves as the poking stick at the monster's cage.

Seconds pass now. A second can seem much longer when you're waiting, and Rey doesn't dare to dignify Rose with a reply. Anything that comes out of her mouth would be nothing more than an animal scream, anyway.

Rather, what she does then requires no words. No crass and witty retort, no cliché like 'Now you will die!' or anything equally as derivative and cringe-worthy.

What she does is grab the knife. Movements swift. Smoke exhales from her mouth as she sends the weapon hurling in a blur. It doesn't flip or twist or falter.

It aims straight for the middle of Rose's chest. Enough force for most people to lose their footing.

The cage breaks.

Seconds can feel like an eternity. The woman can recognize the mounting tension, however, and her smile wanes finally. Worth a shot, at least, Rose thinks before shifting into fight mode herself.

It comes back in a snap; she might not have liked any part of it but she was trained to be a killing machine regardless. The second Rey goes from simply tense to threat the blond is quick to react.

Or, well. She usually would be. To her credit, she tries. Her reaction time is slowed considerably. It's practically baseline she recognizes, which doesn't bode well when facing off against a superhuman. Or whatever the hell Rey is. Rose isn't sure about that still, actually.

She's able to shift just enough that the knife doesn't hit her square in the chest. A dip and step to the side has the blade sinking into the skin of her shoulder instead. Gotta' protect the vitals, if nothing else. She lets out a strained sound of pain but refuses to give Rey the satisfaction of crying out. Mm. That's smarts.

Yet another thing that comes back to her in a flash. The adrenaline rush of a fight, the sting of the pain driving her forward in the face of everything. Almost funny how easy it is to slide back back into the mentality. It'd be more funny if it wasn't so depressing. If it wasn't an affirmation that she's still the monster of all those years ago no matter how hard she tries not to be.

Rose is quick to retaliate with a harsh kick to Rey's shins in tandem with a sharp slash of her claws using her still good arm. Fight or die comes back the mantra of the ring. Even if, in this case, Rose doesn't necessarily care if she dies. It's more reflexive than anything.

Pain, while not something Rey would see as necessarily pleasurable, is a welcome wakeup. More of a release and an invitation. She hadn't hoped that this would be instant. She wouldn't have wanted this to be easy.

What she wanted was blood. It's what the Salamander would have wanted -- that bloody beast gnashing its teeth in her mind's eye, more of a ghost than a physical being. A ghost whose lips pull back into a crooked grin. Happy. So happy. Not in a very nice way.

So when Rose kicks her shin, it stings. And sure, it's not pleasant. Bones of metal, however, have a way of helping you hold your ground as Rey stays rigid, but on her feet.

Instead of falling as she was intended, she lets those claws land their hit. She bleeds, as a human would, and yet continues to hold herself like something inhuman.

Pain is nice. Pain is good.

Rose might as well have gotten what she wanted, Rey figures as she seizes the hilt of the blade still in the other woman's shoulder.

At least one or two gods are probably getting more than enough food for all the emotion spilling from Rey's manic desire to kill. To let go. She doesn't have to be a good person. She doesn't have to be. She can just be the Salamander. Just for a little while.

Might not be the god that was intended to be helped, but she's getting what she wants, in a way.

It's good, it's good. Rey twists her wrist, drilling the blade deeper into Rose's flesh. This is good, just for a time.

Her claws had gone for the woman's jugular but instead grazed the side of her neck. Not bad, even for being so depowered. It's unfortunately about all she has the strength for, however, and her arm falls as pain starts to blind her. The only thing she can focus on is that searing spot of hurt in her shoulder as the knife pushes further into her skin still.

Rose had hoped this would be easy but despite herself she has fighting ingrained into her very DNA. Yokai fight in every facet of their beings even down their genetics. Dying easy was never an option for Rose. Even when she headed to Haven East, she'd lasted just as long as she could before the radiation poisoning seeped down to her soul and tried to strip the life violently from her.

She's resilient. A survivor. She didn't ask to be but she is. It was something she was applauded for but she herself loathed. She's tired of surviving. She's tired of trying to make what she has better only to ruin everything in the end. It's always going to lead back to this, isn't it? Fighting. Disappointment. And all by her hands, too. Despite her best intentions, she'll never be anything more than a monster that causes death and destruction in her wake even when fighting for the exact opposite.

Fighting. Gods, she's exhausted from fighting. So she hopes Rey kills her. She hopes Rey kills her so many times that Hope himself gives up trying to revive her. She hopes that she gets the death she's been denied twice over now.

She just wants it all to stop. She thought she could do it, but it looks like she's going to have to break that promise she'd made almost a year ago.

Sorry, Hiruma. Jesse. Dylas. Peter. Newt. Hermann. She really was just a disappointment in the end.

For the past day, Nick had been patrolling, hoping to find Rey and talk her out of making a mess, of becoming a monster she no longer wanted to be. In good news, he found her; in bad news, she found Rose, the girl who had been antagonizing her on the network.

It wasn't that Nick didn't agree with Rey, in a way -- in all honesty, Love scared him, too. It's a powerful emotion to feel, one that can make even the most stable of people do things they normally wouldn't. He felt that himself with Jennifer Lands, her murder leaving enough rage burning in his heart that he carried it from one body into the next. He might not remember the sound of her voice, but he remembers the ire he felt at knowing he'd never it again; he can't recall her favorite drink, but he knows the thirst for revenge.

And for Rey, this isn't just about some list with her name on it -- it's personal. Love is a touchy subject for both of them, but especially for her and whenit comes to such a thing being used against her, or forcing her to be used. She's been a tool once, and now someone was essentially handing her over to be a tool again. The girl on the other end of the argument might have been too petty, but she didn't deserve to be ripped apart.

And with the sight Nick comes upon, he knows well enough that Rey might do just that if given the chance. She's better than this, and he stands by that; however, she's been pushed too far. They all have their breaking points. But as much as Nick cares for Rey, understands what she's going through, empathizes with her anger and genuinely loves her like family, he's not about to let her murder someone, especially over something they can't change. He won't let her be that tool to be used ever again.

It's a good thing Rey fixed his leg, or Nick wouldn't be able to run over to where the women are fighting, shouting Rey's name at the top of his mechanical lungs as he throws his arms under and around hers, trying to keep her pinned for half a second.

"Rey, don't do this!"

And he's giving her only one chance to back down before he takes drastic measures. When Tranquility handed out blessings, Nick honestly never thought he'd use it; however, if he needs to put Rey out for a period of time, then he doesn't have a lot of options, given she's a super soldier and he's an old synth who saw better days well before he started saying he'd seen better days. He doesn't want to use a power like that against her, but... well, love makes people do things they might not in any other circumstance.

Hot rivers dripping down her neck and over her shoulder registers to her fiery mind, but only as a symptom that she's still alive. Her throat wasn't torn open. She can still breathe. Can still seethe when she attempts to latch her fingers around Rose's little neck--

Only to be pulled back. Processing Nick's voice as nothing more than a small obstacle in her way, her instincts react more immediate. Her grip of the knife so strong that it yanked out of Rose's shoulder when Nick had seized Rey, now holding it with the bloody blade sticking upward. More red streams trickling down over her knuckles.

"No!" Rey yells, coherent words coming out of her for the first time in what has felt like years. She starts to throw Nick back, force weak at first. Hesitant. Don't want to do this.

Let me have this. No, no, LET ME HAVE THIS.

She screams, skin hot and smoke pluming out of her mouth in rage. There's fear in there as well. Fear of what will happen next. What the future has in store for them now that everything is changing.

Being angry is easier. She doesn't hate Rose. Doesn't even want to kill her. She just... needs this. That's what she's told herself, anyway. Need to do something, even if it's only the illusion of control.

All things considered, that doesn't sound much different from the usual.

With a final burst of adrenaline, she throws her head back. Knocking the back of her skull against Nick's face before swinging her elbow to release herself from his hold. Then, with the knife still in hand, aims for its original target. This time to make good on her word, and goes straight for the woman's throat.

Rey's head hits him hard as she rears back, her metal skull giving his own a wallop; however, he's not deterred, only knocked back for a second. Then he's back at it again, his arms around Rey once more as he tries to slow her down enough to keep her from reaching her target.

He knows how he can accomplish that. He doesn't know if it'll work, and more than that, he doesn't want to do it... but as Rey fights him, she leaves him no choice if he wants this altercation to end with as little bloodshed as possible. It's not about letting this other girl live, or keeping Rey from turning into some kind of homicidal monster hellbent on satisfying her own rage, or even about keeping the peace. It's about keeping her safe, even from herself.

And in that, he'll do whatever it takes. She can be mad at him later.

Nick utters an apology to Rey, to his only family as he uses the power Tranquility gifted him against her. It was said to be able to put people to sleep, and while Rey's biological personhood might be debatable, he certainly hopes whatever magical mumbo jumbo the gods have going for them will take effect as it has in her so many times before. He just needs her asleep long enough for her to cool her heels -- or at least long enough that the girl she's trying to murder can get away.

She doesn't want to hear Nick's apologies. Rey doesn't want to hear anything. So sick of people trying to talk reason into her, when the simple truth is that she just doesn't want to be reasonable.

All she wants is to make a choice not influenced by Love. If it's rage, then that is something that she can at least call her own and no one else's. She wants to choke down the aftertaste of sulfur on her tongue, spit fire and drench her burning skin in red. What more, she wants to destroy something, anything, regardless of consequence.

And at once, it starts to fade away. Not because she's being overwhelmed by an intrusive emotion, but because, suddenly, her mind is a fog, and she's just...

Knees buckling, her body goes limp. Dead weight crumbles through Nick's grip, to the ground.

Rose feels the skim of fingers against the soft skin of her throat only for them to be pulled back before they can do anything. The fact that it's more disappointing than relieving says a lot about Rose's current mental state, she realizes.

The slice of pain that comes at the knife suddenly being yanked out of her flesh draws a pained cry from Rose finally. A large red stain starts collecting on her shirt, oozing out from the open wound and seeping into the cloth. She doesn't even bother to try and put a hand up to stop the bleeding. Let it bleed out. It won't, despite the fact that she almost wishes it would.

It finally registers that it's not just them anymore. There's another person she recognizes faintly as a cave dweller but has never met personally. Is he trying to save her? No, she thinks. Let Rey have this. They want the same thing, really, and Rose is ready for the blade to stab her in the throat. Welcomes it, even, at this point.

She deserves it.

Again, the pain never comes. Instead, Rey wilts suddenly under Nick's grasp. He's saved her. Even if it wasn't about her, he did. And she didn't want him to. For the first time since this whole thing started, tears brim in the blond's eyes and she stars down Nick for only a handful of seconds before doing what she does best.

Run away. Before he can even think to stop her, Rose takes off. It's at a human speed, unfortunately, but even at baseline her speed is above average. She'll be gone in a practical blink, fleeing out of sight as soon as possible while pushing passed the pain in her shoulder. It'll heal, she'll be fine, she thinks.

She won't be. It'll catch up to her eventually. Some things you just can't run from.

Rey collapses into Nick's arm's, and right through them as he struggles to hold her up: looks can be deceiving when it comes to Rey and how much that metal skeleton of hers weighs. He only gets to exchange a brief glace with the other girl -- Rosie or Rose or something like that, as he recalls from his surveillance of the network -- before she bolts. His first instinct is to go after her, not to make sure she's okay, but to keep her from goading anyone else into a fight. Rey might have overreacted, but with reason; this other woman pushed her into it, swatting at the proverbial hornet's nest until the stingers came calling.

But despite his inclination, he knows he can't leave Rey, not in the street, and not until he's sure she'll be okay. He doesn't know just how long it'll be until she wakes up -- Tranquility's blessing might not work as well on her as it might on someone else, given she's not human. More importantly, the other woman might start even more trouble if given the chance. He can't leave Rey, but he needs to put a stop to this nonsense, especially when folks could get hurt, or manipulated into feeding the gods even more.

Nick acts quickly, pulling his communicator out of his pocket, skimming through the names and numbers. He needs someone to not only help lug her home, but to watch her until she wakes up: someone she trusts, and someone he trusts enough. Someone who won't let anything happen to his family.

He finds who he's looking for and dials. After the call, it's a matter of waiting.

Firo finds that he's not actually sure what to say. He'd hoped that on the way over here he would've come up with something--some firm, businesslike way to ask Nick what the hell he thought he was doing. ...But mostly Firo's just confused about everything that's going on. He knows that Rey has a lot of trust in Nick, so why would this even happen with them?

Firo slows as he reaches the scene. After a quick glance at Rey, he moves on to Nick.

"How long's she been out? And where're we taking her?"

By the time Firo approaches, Nick has taken a seat next to Rey, propping her head up on his knee. Given her metal skull, she probably doesn't need the cushioning, but he wasn't comfortable just leaving her crumpled on the road like that, especially not when he's the reason she's out of commission.

His eyes flick to Firo as the man addresses him. "About fifteen minutes. Long enough for the other girl to get a head start in running." That last part holds some uncharacteristic ire for someone as seemingly lawful as Nick, but needless to say, he's not exactly thrilled with how all of this went down. He slides out from Rey, getting to his feet. "Let's take her home for now. Let her cool off where someone isn't gonna come pick a fight with her."

Firo reaches to grab the arm farthest from Nick. His first two-handed tug is far too weak, and it takes a big heave to start actually being helpful in the lifting effort. She must weigh about as much as Berga does, but Firo just grits his teeth and tries not to let on. It'd be embarrassing to show any sign of struggle in front anyone, especially Nick.

He wants to ask--coolly, sarcastically--why Nick decided to put them in this mess in the first place. Instead, what comes out is hesitant and uncertain, "Is she gonna be okay?"

As Firo heaves one of Rey's arms, Nick takes the other and pulls in tandem, the second pull giving her enough height that they can rest her across their shoulders. He's inwardly grateful he no longer has that cane now, as there'd be no way he could help haul her with it.

"She'll be fine," Nick insists as he starts moving, his voice strained despite his mechanical nature. He might be more metal than man, but the weight isn't easy on him. "If these 'blessings' those so-called gods handed out are halfway decent at what they're supposed to do, she should wake up in a few hours, maybe more."

He doesn't sound happy that he had to use it, or even that thrilled about having it in the first place; however, given the options he was presented with, he didn't exactly have a choice. He's just lucky he had it.

Nick grits his teeth, trying to keep up with Firo's pace. Firo's tone, combined with the effort of hauling her and the fact that all of this happened to begin with, his testing his temper.

"I was hoping I'd never have to use it at all," he explains, "but it was either that or let Rey be goaded into murdering someone for no damn reason, other than helping the gods."

"Why's it matter so much anyway? I mean, not that I would wanna do something like that myself."

Can't Rey make her own choices about whom to murder and when? Firo's not particularly fond of killing people when it can be avoided, but knocking a friend out doesn't sit right with him either.
