Welcome to Hadriel, new friends. While waking up on the ground of a broken colosseum may not be the most pleasant arrival, you can at least find comfort in the fact that there's no giant monster immediately attempting to eat you. Plenty of the people already here will tell you that they weren't quite so lucky. But - wait. Is that something moving in the shadows, or is it just your imagination?
Of course it's not just your imagination. That would be way too easy. No, arriving along with everyone this time are wraiths, vengeful spirits that enjoy darkness, shadows, and misery. On the plus side, they won't try to kill you. On the minus side, their touch chills you and saps your energy, as well as inflicting a temporary curse of awful luck. Anything that can go wrong, will, including (and especially) things that might kill you. Wraiths are subtle and sneaky, so be sure to watch your back. That shadow isn't just a shadow.
Compounding the confusion the wraiths can cause, you just might wake up to the sound of chattering voices - only to be quite alone. A small flock of jabberjays has come through the Door as well. These genetically engineered birds are capable of mimicking entire human voices and conversations - as well as screams of terror and pain. Initially only in the arena and bringing only conversations from their world, they'll soon settle throughout the city and begin to learn the voices of those living in Hadriel. Your best friend screaming bloody murder just a street over? It could be them, or it could just be one of these lovely birds. Don't let it stress you out.
Once you've escaped the colosseum, hopefully without accidentally impaling yourself on your own weapon, feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers February 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well!
► All characters now arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

but suddenly there's a freaking kid about his brother's age calling out to him and, yeah, he looks literally nothing like kevin, but that doesn't make it any easier for cliff to handle looking at him right now.]
Don't you know talking to strangers is a good way to get yourself in trouble, kid? [cliff tells him with a huff of thinly (very thinly) veiled irritation. he doesn't make any sort of effort to vacate the shadows when he does though, and the clearest part of him visible to hope is more than likely his golden eyes.]
no subject
he lifts his left hand up, turning it over and summoning a flicker of fire to illuminate the area around him. despite being in some weird cave, his magic still worked as it should... good. ]
Probably not as much trouble as being kidnapped and thrown into some weird cave. [ the fire flickers briefly, pulling in before growing slightly in size. ] I just thought I saw something behind me...
no subject
this place is quickly proving to be just as weird or weirder than podunk, so whatever.]
Bet you the strangers you find in a weird cave after getting kidnapped wind up being more trouble than most.
no subject
[ no military and no monsters (maybe?) is always a plus. ]
no subject
[not that there weren't any "monsters" around, just that the one hope was currently talking to had absolutely no interesting in jumping at him.]
Who the hell is shooting at kids now anyway, that's fucked up.
no subject
[ he's the only 'kid' in the picture currently. there's no telling how many purge survivors might have made it out of there. and honestly? you get used to it... even if they line of thought is kinda messed up. besides, he had magic to heal the wounds and dull the pain away. most of the soldiers didn't get out of encounters with their group easily. ]
no subject
[cliff says, and he sounds pretty angry about it, honestly. because yeah, maybe adults didn't actually manage to protect kids nearly as much as they were supposed to, especially when things got weird, but that didn't mean the opposite should be happening either.]
That's bullshit, if anyone like that shows up here they're gonna fucking regret it.
no subject
Yeah... right now, things are really messed up. [ they're all being played but no one is going to listen to a l'cie. ] Not that it isn't messed up that I've been kidnapped but not hearing gunshots is a nice change of pace.
no subject
Yeah, these kidnappers don't seem to be all that creative. [he agrees, boredom quickly overtaking and quieting his anger from only moments before. because seriously, you'd think something interesting would happen after waking up in some massive underground cavern but no.
lurking in the shadows and freaking out high strung people was his only entertainment right now. and obviously he wasn't gonna do that with some kid his brother's age.]
no subject
[ he feels a little more on edge than need be, honestly. probably because he expects something to happen. something always happened and for it to be quiet is wrecking his nerves just slightly. ]
Have you been in this place long?
no subject
[cliffs pulls out a pack of cards from the front pocket of his hoodie, for lack of anything better to do, and starts shuffling them because, well. he probably shouldn't smoke right now, right? and that's literally the only other thing in his pockets right now to keep him occupied.]
Though there's definitely some people lurking around that have been around longer. None of them seem to actually be from around here, though.
