Event Log: Dust to Dust

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the Dust to Dust event
Where: All over the city!
When: January 14th-17th
Warnings: A big ol' mess.

It starts off small: the wind picks up, particles of sand and dirt and dust begin to fill the air. You might not even notice at first, not until you have to wipe the dust off your windows to see outside. After all, it's been a long time since Hadriel has experienced weather, and it's never experienced a weather event not caused by the gods before.

But the gods aren't in charge of the weather now, and even if they could prevent this dust storm, they have way too many other things to do. So it's up to you to deal with it, and as the wind rises and the dust storm moves into the city, there'll be plenty to deal with.

Once the storm is at its peak, it'll be almost impossible to see outside - and it won't be safe to go wandering, either. Entirely besides falling and hurting yourself, if you aren't wrapped up well enough the particles in the air will abrade your skin. Love that sandpaper feel! Oh, and breathing? Yeah, better make sure your nose and mouth are covered, or else they'll be full of sand, too. Hope you've got some goggles stashed away to protect your eyes. Luckily, it won't last too long - 'cause you'll have plenty of cleaning to do once the storm is over.

► This log covers January 14th-17th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you foolishly get scoured to the bone, please let us know here.

[The dust storm is raging, but it's nothing Kiran's powers can't handle. Well... sure, it's requiring quite a lot of focus and effort and he's almost entirely out of magic to keep it up, but he could handle it. And for good reason; he didn't have much food or water stashed away and it quickly became clear he was going to run out if this weather went on for too long.

But now the problem is that he won't be able to keep this up long enough to get back to his personal hovel. If only he had some magic - something so plentiful back home, floating out freely in the air all the time and seeping off of anyone he passed by on the street to some degree, but so much harder to find here in Hadriel. Is it because the Moirai aren't here? That destiny doesn't exist here, and thus no way for destinies to produce magic? Whatever it is, it sucks. Without being able to take magic out of the air, Kiran has nothing but his own personal well to draw from, and that can reach zero surprisingly fast. This place is less a desert in the literal sense, but more one in the metaphorical sense, as far as he's concerned.

Until he happened to, somehow, feel a whiff of magic as he walked down the street, a bubble of violently fast but dust-free air rushing around him. Somehow it feels familiar, and yet he can't remember ever sensing magic in this way before. He hurries over to the door that seems to lead towards the magic's source, his wind rattling it in its hinges.

They might not be able to hear him, but he knocks as hard as he can with one fist, his package of food and water tucked under his other arm. He might actually have no choice but to break this door down, but... maybe they'll open it first?

[...there's actually someone outside. In this weather?

He could well just leave them out to suffer, but... a part of him longs for company. So he opens the door to find—

—holy wind.

It's actually enough to slam the door back, though luckily he's able to move out of the way before the door actually hits him. His arm comes up to brace against the wind...

Oh, it's him.

He calls over the wind:]

Well, don't just stand there!

[Kiran doesn't really need permission, anyway, as far as he's concerned - as soon as the door's open, he bolts inside, turns back towards the doorway, and whips the air around him backwards to slam it shut. In almost the same instant, the wind dissipates, and he lazily sits on the floor.]

Oh, man! [Even just the sound of something other than wind is refreshing. With his legs sprawled in front of him, he lets the package of goods drop from under his ground to the floor. Huffing out a sigh, he flops backwards onto his back.]

You legit saved my ass by letting me in, dude. Thanks times a million.

It's you.

[The one who saved him when he first arrived. He regards the boy on his back with a mild curiosity, then walks towards the door. Hm, quite a bit of sand got in, and he regards it with mild irritation.]

I suppose this makes us equal, now.

[He glances back over at the other, noticing the packages.]

Not exactly ideal grocery shopping weather.

No shit, Sherlock.

[He glances over at the guy, a slight smirk playing on his face.]

Turns out I have just what I need to make a pit stop when I haven't planned ahead though. Want some? I got water, some jerky... No guarantee on what type of meat it is, but I'm told it's still edible...

[he sits up and starts rooting around in the package.]

[He's... "told" it's still edible.]

I'll pass. I was fortunate enough to make my own trip before the storm arrived.

[He walks past the other boy.]

Lucky for you, I'm the only one currently residing in this unit, so there are two vacant bedrooms. Unless you're feeling daring enough to brave it back to wherever you're staying, of course.

[Kiran shrugs and whips out some of the jerky. He'd gotten over that too-good-for-this attitude after a few weeks here. Meat is hard to come by, so..... monster meat is what it's been.]

I can't. Dealing with all that out there tired me out faster than I thought it would. [As he says that, he peers at the guy's back. He can definitely sense it on him... it's magic, he thinks. Not the same sort he's used to, but it's there in a way it hasn't been for the other people here.

Could he just... take it? Regular humans back home can't feel it when he's pulling magic off of them. But Celestial Boys like him can feel it... Wait, this guy couldn't be one, could he?
]

...So, where are you from? [he starts chewing on one end of the jerky and watches him.]
