Event Log: Dust to Dust

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the Dust to Dust event
Where: All over the city!
When: January 14th-17th
Warnings: A big ol' mess.

It starts off small: the wind picks up, particles of sand and dirt and dust begin to fill the air. You might not even notice at first, not until you have to wipe the dust off your windows to see outside. After all, it's been a long time since Hadriel has experienced weather, and it's never experienced a weather event not caused by the gods before.

But the gods aren't in charge of the weather now, and even if they could prevent this dust storm, they have way too many other things to do. So it's up to you to deal with it, and as the wind rises and the dust storm moves into the city, there'll be plenty to deal with.

Once the storm is at its peak, it'll be almost impossible to see outside - and it won't be safe to go wandering, either. Entirely besides falling and hurting yourself, if you aren't wrapped up well enough the particles in the air will abrade your skin. Love that sandpaper feel! Oh, and breathing? Yeah, better make sure your nose and mouth are covered, or else they'll be full of sand, too. Hope you've got some goggles stashed away to protect your eyes. Luckily, it won't last too long - 'cause you'll have plenty of cleaning to do once the storm is over.

► This log covers January 14th-17th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you foolishly get scoured to the bone, please let us know here.

You're welcome.

[He delivers that completely straight, as though unaware of the way Nate asked more than stated it. (In truth, he's just ignoring it. Don't make him address his own social inadequacies.)]

Actually, I was.

[Kravitz grimaces.]

Fortunately, I can travel via portal. It only took me seconds to get under shelter. [In a deeper, haunted tone:] I've decided I hate sand.
nonscriptum: I wanna hang with you til one of us DIES (are you kidding?)

Ha.

[Nate barks a laugh. He doesn't mind it so much, because his associations with sand tend to include sunlight and water - he's fairly certain if he survives to retirement age he'll live on a beach - but he's had his fair share of bad experiences with sand.]

Do you really get to complain if you can teleport away from your problems?

[He can name at least a half-dozen occasions where teleporting away from his problems would have been super useful.]
knockthemdead: (probably pissed off at merle)

[Kravitz manages to make a noise that is both wounded and offended, and gives Nate a look with big eyes.]

You, as well? I am just as human as you, you know. Mostly. I can complain!

[He's not being entirely serious, but there's definitely a touch of genuine sentiment in there. Taako may have just called him out over the same thing.]
nonscriptum: it's just a big fan that goes in the sky (fly a chopper? how hard could it be?)

[personal profile] nonscriptum 2018-03-08 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Mostly?

[Forgive his skepticism, but he's met enough strange and interesting folk in these parts to keep from letting that slide. Figures that Taako would date a- whatever Kravitz is.

...What is Kravitz?
]

What are you when you're not human?
knockthemdead: (check the cloak)

[Kravitz waves his hand and sighs, as if he wishes to brush the question aside.]

Oh, please do spare me any theatrics.

[And then, theatrically, he sweeps his hair back over his shoulder as it disappears, melting away piece by piece with his skin and leaving nothing but a skeleton behind.]
nonscriptum: can I interest you in a check that will definitely bounce? (if you're here for $200)

[Nate has seen a lot of shit over the years.

Old-timey Spanish zombie people, for one. Enormous, scary, blue mutants who decided to partake in a meal of blue tree sap. Victor Sullivan's mustache.

He's even born witness to the plethora of monsters that crawl out of Hadriel's Door every month, but this? Seeing a perfectly handsome guy wave his hand and suddenly deteriorate like he just drank from the wrong Holy Grail? Yeah, that's fucking weird.

It's rude to point but point he does, brow furrowed, opening his mouth to speak and then closing it again, thinking better of it. Hands akimbo Nate once more attempts to broach the subject as he looks into the dead, empty sockets of a skull, still processing. At the end of his performance piece (Dawning Comprehension, Nathan Drake, 2015) he shrugs with his eyebrows.
]

Huh.
knockthemdead: (there's something here)

[personal profile] knockthemdead 2018-04-21 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, it's certainly not the most insulting reaction he's ever had, not anywhere near the loudest. He wouldn't have minded Nate looking a tad more intimidated, but he'll take what he can get.]

Eloquent. I do wish you wouldn't point; I'm not a circus attraction.

[Here's a fun question Nate: where's the voice even coming from?]
nonscriptum: I'd honestly be dead without it (modern medicine is amazing)

[personal profile] nonscriptum 2018-05-04 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's what's weird. The voice seems to resonate from within the skull, as opposed to coming from any logical source. Nate intends to chalk it up to "magic shit" and call it a day in lieu of a real explanation.]

Well, I'm not the one who just melted my face off, [he argues.] For somebody who wants the theatrics spared, that was pretty dramatic.
knockthemdead: (time to cut a man w my cheekbones)

[personal profile] knockthemdead 2018-05-17 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Chalking things up to 'magic shit' rather than looking for logic is a useful skill to have when it comes to basically anyone from Kravitz's world.

He harrumphs, acting as though Nate is being ridiculous, and not as though he's just been entirely called out.]

Call it what you want, I suppose.
