Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the Dust to Dust event
Where: All over the city!
When: January 14th-17th
Warnings: A big ol' mess.

It starts off small: the wind picks up, particles of sand and dirt and dust begin to fill the air. You might not even notice at first, not until you have to wipe the dust off your windows to see outside. After all, it's been a long time since Hadriel has experienced weather, and it's never experienced a weather event not caused by the gods before.

But the gods aren't in charge of the weather now, and even if they could prevent this dust storm, they have way too many other things to do. So it's up to you to deal with it, and as the wind rises and the dust storm moves into the city, there'll be plenty to deal with.

Once the storm is at its peak, it'll be almost impossible to see outside - and it won't be safe to go wandering, either. Entirely besides falling and hurting yourself, if you aren't wrapped up well enough the particles in the air will abrade your skin. Love that sandpaper feel! Oh, and breathing? Yeah, better make sure your nose and mouth are covered, or else they'll be full of sand, too. Hope you've got some goggles stashed away to protect your eyes. Luckily, it won't last too long - 'cause you'll have plenty of cleaning to do once the storm is over.

Well, I've never seen one myself. However, if there are monsters and gods in this world then it's not far-fetched to say there aren't ghosts, is it?

That's true, but— ( that's not what interests him.
running his hand along the mostly empty shelves, he examines his fingertips as he wipes them free of the dust. probably thanks to the storm. )

What about before you arrived here?

[Komaeda, meanwhile, is peering curiously around the objects of the shop. It just seems a cluster together of knickknacks. Some of them are very dusty and there are cobwebs. Is there anything he could use?]

Before I arrived?

Hmm....[Well, no matter how bad his luck got, he has never seen any ghosts.] Well, I might have thought they were a little silly. Maybe.

Mind you, considering all the dangerous and terrifying things in the world that happen [Like being forced to kill your classmates by a robot bear] , ghosts are a small thing in comparison.

( dangerous and terrifying things, hm? akira made note of that, glancing over komaeda's way as he listened. he wasn't sure if he meant the mundane every day terrible things that came with most places in the world or something... deeper.

That's true. There are many more scary things in the world than ghosts especially in a place like Hadriel, like you said.

[Well whatever it may be, it does not seem as if Komaeda is going to elaborate on it.]

Absolutely! Hadriel is a frightening place in many ways. But I'm sure that you can stand against anything that comes against your way, Akira-kun! I can feel a lot of hope radiating from you.

From me?

( well, he's not sure about all that. back in his word, akira is just a kid fighting a current of shitty adults in an unfair society. all the same, with a completely straight face, eyes obscured from the light seeping into the shop reflecting from his glasses, he has to offer his advice on what that feeling might just be, komaeda. )

Are you sure it isn't just indigestion?

[Uh.....what?] I don't think you get what I mean. [And he tries to grab Akira's hands as his eyes light up and he leans into the other boy's face. A little too close for the other boy's personal comfort, probably.]

Akira-kun, I think that a wonderful hope shines within you! Remember when the Null attacked? Instead of giving into despair, not only did you fight back but you also tried to help others get to safety. That, to me, gives the impression that hope resides in you.

[He's sure there are other examples of Akira's ~dazzling sparkly light of hope~ but he doesn't know him well enough yet.]

( he gets it, it's just... well, you're just a bit weird komaeda. not that there's anything wrong with that but the praise isn't that well-deserved. akira was someone that worked from the shadows, and although the recognition felt good once in awhile, even back home somehow, since he felt so powerless in a place like this... it was just a little hard to swallow. )

When you put it that way— ( he's adjusting his rims, eyes becoming visible again. ) I think there's probably some hope residing in all of us. ( and he doesn't just mean the god.

grabbing something off the shelf, he tosses a can komaeda's way with a playful— ) Here, catch. ( in warning. )

Well, I'm not sure everyone has - ah.

[And he manages to catch it.] Are you going to buy that? Do you want me to hold onto it? [Welp. Someone is dense when it comes to people caring about him.]

It's for you. ( it's so nonchalant. the storm will hopefully let up in a few days, but still. akira would feel better knowing that nagito would at least have access to something... given how little regard he seemed to have for his personal well-being.

he motions for the other boy to lift up the can to read. they're beans. ) Fri'hope'les. ( get it??? )

For me....? Are you sure? [He got the pun. However, what stands out to him more is that Akira gave him something. His face lights up.] Ah, you really are too kind to someone as unworthy as me. I feel so honoured! [Nevertheless, he takes it gratefully.] I wonder what bad luck is going to hit us now in response?

( there's a shake of akira's head. this guy really did have a thick skull when it came to self-worth, huh? well, maybe it would take time, but for now, this at least felt like a small step forward. even if... he coveted the beans or something weird.

opening his mouth to reply saw to a fantastic earth-shattering sound, causing akira to immediately duck towards the floor. there's a sudden howling and then... dust.
unfolding himself there's a quick glance komaeda's way before he's peering through the aisles to confirm what he suspected... a broken window. the force of the wind was that bad still?
with a sigh, the frizzy-haired boy took a seat on the ground, inviting the other young man to take a seat next to him. )

I guess that answers your question? ( it seemed... they'd be stuck here for awhile longer, until things died down at least. time to settle in. )
