Event Log: The Hope of a Child

By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

[She narrows her eyes at the apple fora moment, but ultimately nods. She's hungry and she can't fix that herself.]

Yes. [Pause.] Please.

[ He offers, and he smiles brightly ]

Sure!

[ He stands and grabs another apple before scrambling down and offering it to her ]

What's Cano?

[She looks at the apple for another moment before taking it and then taking a bite. She even smiles a little, which is something of a miracle.]

Thank you. It's good.

Cano is Cano!

[ He grins at her over the apple and points at himself ]

Cano's name is too long. [ He explains ] Cano is easier!

Oh. You're Cano.

Why is your name too long? What is it?

[ He beams and then his face falls. Why that question. Ugh. His nose scrunches as he concentrates ]

Cano's name is... um. Ma-ka-laure... Canafinwe.

[ YOU SEE WHY HE DOESN'T USE THE FULL THING ]

You're right that is too long. I don't think I could say it either. I like Cano better anyway.

[ He smiles ]

Cano... I's likes your name too. Is very pretty! And you's welcome. Amil says we always should share!

Who's Amil? Did you find your somebody? Because I didn't find mine yet.

Amil is Amil! Her name is... Ner-da-nel. Atto is Feanaro! She makes the bestest statues, and atto likes shiny things that go boom.

[ He shakes his head ]

Cano's not found them yet though. He found cousins instead! Probably, they's are working. Who is Annabeth looking for?

I don't know all those words.

I'm looking for Luke and Thalia. They take care of me. They showed me how to fight the monsters.

[childofthemusic]

[ He ponders that ]

Amil and Atto are... the ... parents! [ That's the word! ] They's Cano's parents. Are Luke and Thalia your parents?

[ Wooooow Monster Fighters!!! ]

Are there monsters here?

Oh like mom and dad. [Sigh] No. My mom and dad didn't want me so I ran away. Luke and Thalia take care of me.

I don't know but they're all over the place.

[childofthemusic]

[ His eyes widen in horrified shock and then he flings his arms around her in a hug ]

B-but that's terrible! So sad! Nonono, you can share Cano's parents, that's not nice at all!

[yearrounder]

Hey! [Oh wait. No, that's fine. Hugs are fine.]

It's okay, I don't need any. I have Like and Thalia.

[childofthemusic]

But no one gives a hug like amil does.

[ He says seriously ]

Cano's amil isn't here, but it's too sad, if Annabeth doesn't have an amil or an atto, so you's can share mine. And Cano'll hug you until then.

Hugs are okay. Sometimes.

Amil and Atto says that we should always share with those who doesn't have things, coz they might have things to share with us too!

[ He informs her and lets go, although he stays close ]

Cano'll help you look for Luke and Thalia! Coz family should stick together.

[ he chews thoughtfully on his lip ]

Where has you looked? Oh! We could climbs to the top of the tree and looks?

I looked all over. [Or as "all over" as her seven-year-old legs could take her]

That's a good idea, let's do that.

Yay! [ He bounces ]

Let's find a really really tall tree!

Okay. You were in them before, you should know better which ones are the tallest.

[ He considers the grove and then grabs her hand and tugs, learning her to one of the older, taller trees. ]

This way! This tree was nice and tall, and doesn't mind us climbing.
