It's more like it's trying to figure out how to deal with it. It eventually decides to just... put its face in it, because it isn't particularly smart and isn't capable of being afraid.
The fire scorches the monster's skull and it pulls back before swiping its claws through it. The flames seem to eat up the black substance that makes up its body, but it doesn't stay gone for long.
All the while, it's slowly advancing as Lance retreats, staggering on its broken leg.
