Event log: How Delightful

Who: Anyone and everyone!
What: Delight's resurrection.
Where: Throughout the city, starting in the bar.
When: March 23rd-April 3rd
Warnings: Partying too hard, poor life choices, underage drinking, the worst hangovers of all time.

On the morning of March 23rd, bright and early, Delight is resurrected. Her temple is restored, and her bar appears in the city. What does that mean? Well, obviously it's time to celebrate. We hope everyone brought their party shoes! From March 23rd to March 27th, the party will be mostly contained in and around Delight's bar, with an invitation from the goddess herself. But it won't be long before she decides that's just not good enough - gotta bring the party to the people! From March 28th to April 3rd, the natural light is dimmed and replaced with flashing colored lights, fireworks, and even a few disco balls. Loud music blares through the city, making it hard to sleep, and a wide variety of trouble is available to be gotten into.

Wanna drink away the pain of being trapped in a hellcave? There's unlimited amounts of alcohol of all kinds, and Delight will be happy to supply anything that might be missing. More interested in karaoke-ing your heart out? Hit up one of the jukeboxes. Enjoy gleeful displays of your own mortality? Here's a skateboard and a ramp, have fun. There's just about anything you could desire, as long as what you desire is to party hard and make bad decisions. And hey, if you find yourself getting tired, grab one (or five) of Delight's special energy shots. They'll eliminate your need for sleep, food, water, cure an oncoming hangover and immediately relax any sore muscles you've got for 24 hours per shot! There's no down side! (Except for all the effects coming back to hit you at once when the shot wears off, but whatever.)

After about a week and a half of tequila shots, keg stands, roman candle battles, tagging the city with free spraypaint, inappropriate party games, and balloon hats made to look like rocket ships (wait... that's not a rocket ship), Delight realizes everyone's partied out and starts to wind things down. On April 3rd, she'll clean up the city, removing everything except for a few remaining fireworks and disco balls, stored in her temple. Her bar will still be around, if you can stand to even look at liquor after all the poor choices you made. Otherwise, lay in bed and try to recover from your hangover while the city goes back to normal.

"Yeah. I think a lot of people would." He knows he would. "But um... I hope you just, you know. Don't ever end up needing to get resurrected or whatever. I don't think many people here have, at least not before the wendigo thing."

There had been a lot of deaths in that event.

"...Thank you, human," Glacius responds, sounding surprised by the sentiment--but genuinely appreciative. Also, he's not trying to be rude by not using Chris' actual name; it's just that he's not used to being on a first-named basis with members of other species, so it might take a reminder or two. "Of course I do not wish suffering on anyone, either."

Even if everyone else is currently being a bunch of noisey assholes and subjecting him to suffering with all this partying! Also, he has no idea what a wendigo is, but the way the man in front of him is speaking of it now, well... he's getting the distinct impression that it is a painful topic, and thus better not to pry. Maybe he should change the subject?

"I have not yet been to the... 'library' here. Do you like it there? Is it filled with more books, like the one you have procured?"

Being called 'human' instead of his name is really not that weird in the grand scheme of things, and other than a small level of nerd joy at feeling like he's in a sci-fi novel he just ignores it. He does offer a small smile at the comments though; Glacius is officially not scary at this point.

Wendigos are definitely a sensitive topic, though Chris would explain if asked. He's more than happy to move on, however.

"The library here's uh... Kind of..." He wants to say 'special' but he's pretty sure it would be taken literally and that's the opposite of how he intends it. "It's kind of weird. There's a ton of books, yeah, but not a lot of actually readable stuff in there. Every so often you can find something, though." Even if it's rarely all that interesting, unfortunately.
glacius: (Regarding you.)

[personal profile] glacius 2016-04-06 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"So, you mean that most of the books there are... what? Written in another language? Intended for use by another species?" It's not too far out of an assumption, given how strange the city's architecture was, and the musings he'd heard about their being inhabitants of this place that preceded them.

"Right, yeah. I dunno if like, they came from other worlds or whatever, or if they're left over from the people that used to live here." All he knows is it's a really weird selection, which is better than nothing but still not great.
glacius: (I'm listening.)

[personal profile] glacius 2016-04-07 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"But that is a concern in and of itself, is it not? No one that I have spoken to seems to have any idea of what happened to the beings that originally lived in this city. It seems likely that some unfortunate fate has befallen them..." And whatever it was, the current inhabitants are likely not immune to it, either. He wonders if it has something to do with the gods. Even they had been dead for some time--but then what was causing them to be resurrected now? Was it some cycle beginning to repeat? If so, how could it be broken?

Glacius doesn't know, and he doesn't expect the human in front of him to have answers either. But it's worth keeping in mind, and he will continue to dig for an explanation. He doesn't want some cataclysm sneaking up on them.

Chris actually does have some answers, though not as many or in as much detail as he would like.

"The gods know what happened, or at least Hope does. But he was super evasive when I asked him for specifics, just that it was something bad and he doesn't want it to happen to us too. Fear would probably tell us more, since he's like, better about actually answering things we ask, but he's uh..." Terrifying. As his name would suggest.
glacius: (Hm.)

[personal profile] glacius 2016-04-08 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Really," Glacius murmurs, brows raising slightly. "Perhaps I should talk to this 'Fear'." The alien is not very easily intimidated, though he could still see the gods being purposefully obtuse if pressed for information. They all seem very suspect to the alien, even the ones who purport to be helpful; he's not sure he event buys that Hope is concerned about some terrible fate befalling them all. If that were truly the case, then they wouldn't even be here.

"If you do, uh... It's pretty safe to ask him questions, just like... Be polite, I guess." That seems to have worked out best for everyone before, and Chris is a little worried about people contacting Fear and then making him angry. Glacius doesn't seem the type for that to be much of a risk, but still.
glacius: (How exasperating.)

[personal profile] glacius 2016-04-08 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Glacius looks a little bit exasperated at that. "Being polite to my kidnappers. How irksome... but yes. I do not plan on doing anything to intentionally anger the gods... I do not wish suffering on anyone, and certainly do not want to cause it. I only wish to find a way out of here."

Chris offers a small grin. "Hey, at least you're like, being polite to get something out of it. Instead of like, genuinely."

Because yeah, otherwise the other idea is definitely irritating.
glacius: (eeeeugghhh.)

[personal profile] glacius 2016-04-08 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes the alien wrinkle his face up, because now he's realizing that any conversation with these gods would likely mean that both parties have ulterior motives--and even if he's digging for a good cause, he detests the idea of being underhanded. "I suppose. I would much rather be direct, and truthful, but something tells me that if I just commandeered their attention on the network and told them I was attempting to either liberate their prisoners or plot their downfall there would be... consequences."

Chris also prefers to be honest and direct, at least for the most part--any underhandedness was usually reserved for jokes or playing pranks and that's lost a lot of appeal lately--but he's also too pragmatic not to accept it's necessary here. As much as some of the gods, such as Delight, seem okay or even friendly, that doesn't mean the people here don't need to be looking out for themselves as a group first and foremost.

He shrugs a little at Glacius' comment. "I mean, announcing it publicly probably wouldn't hut too much; I think they read the network but like, you wouldn't be the first to say something like that and they didn't seem to care too much. But one-on-one it's just... It seems a lot riskier."
