What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th
Warnings: Stealth Rock
It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.
There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!
To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!► This log covers April 14th-April 19th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you get hit by levitating rubble or eat a food that wasn't meant for you, please let us know here.

No. [okay that was rude even for Law] ...no thanks.
no subject
Are you okay?
[He presumes the rudeness is probably due to tension, maybe about the whole Name issue?]
no subject
[it's probably more likely due to switching from liquor to coffee and back again all night, not fully tipsy but also heavily caffeinated after weeks of withdrawal. Also, bread. He's offended by your bread, Lance. But for him to notice that something is off, Law can't help but look around the room like he has been all night]
...you haven't happened to see a very tall blond man, here? I mean easily three meters tall. Wearing sunglasses.
no subject
Lance's eyebrows furrow a little at that reaction, glancing around when Law does, but then shakes his head at the question.]
I haven't, but I haven't been paying a lot of attention either. Who is it?
no subject
Someone from my world. [said heavily, in the sense that it's not someone he's happy to see] If you saw him you would know, he's hard to miss. If he shows up, I need to get away.
no subject
Why? What did he do?
[He presumes there's some serious history there, but it could really vary in what kind of history that actually is.]
no subject
We tried to kill each other. I have no doubt that given an open opportunity, he'll finish what he started.
no subject
Is he a dangerous person in general, or is this limited to an issue between the two of you?
[Not that the latter would be a good thing, but he's not sure if this guy is a loose canon threat to everyone or this is specific to Law.]
no subject
He's a sadist and a sociopath. He has no remorse or capacity for humanity. But...the things he wants, the things that matter to him, aren't here. So, I don't really know. He could get bored and try to kill a god, or he could be content sitting around drinking. I have no idea anymore.
[he could very well wander into the party, enjoy some steak and wine, and aside from being a bit of a boor do nothing. or he could kill them all. who knows?]
no subject
[He'd been really relieved when the previous people that fit both those categories had left, although he imagines there are a few more around that are staying under the radar. But alright, first thing first.]
Okay. We'll deal with that as it comes, then, and perhaps we can figure out something new for him to focus on that keeps his attention.
[That's the strategy he'd wanted to use for Sato, before Sato had ended up doing it himself. But Lance is also quietly pleased that Law knows motives and goals are important in dealing with these kinds of people.
And all of that said--]
Is there anything I can do to help you, in dealing with the issues between you?
[He doesn't mean resolving it, really; he doubts he could. But it's more a roundabout offer to help Law in dealing with this in general, because it has to be a stressful and difficult situation.]
no subject
I can't avoid it forever. But I've got enough going on without having to babysit the likes of him> on top of it.
[with a quick shake of his head] ...no. Just...don't get on his bad side. The impermanence of death doesn't mean he won't enjoy killing you if things turn sour. [and I like you enough to warn you, okay]
no subject
It isn't your responsibility to babysit him just because he's from your world.
[He wants that to be clear; it's obvious Law has enough to worry about, especially with the Name stuff on top of everything else.
And yeah that's... That's a warning that is not at all terrifying. But he appreciates that Law cares to make sure he knows what he's dealing with, though.]
I'll try to avoid upsetting him.
[Which is easier said than done, considering Lance is great at attracting the attention of some of the worst people in this place and at home, but whatever.]
Does he have magic, or is he just a good fighter, or what?
no subject
He appreciates the sentiment and the promise, letting some of the tension finally leave his shoulders. The uncertainty is why he isn't just grabbing his phone and outing Doflamingo, no sense terrifying people if the jerk just goes quiet and behaves himself.]
He has an ability, like I do. [what did we say about magic, hm?] Strings. It's not as weak as it sounds, he's actually very formidable. [he gestures at his right arm, where the scar is just visible peeking out from the cuff of his shirt sleeve] He's the one who cut my arm off.
no subject
And it gives him a good guess at what an ability called 'strings' might be capable of, too.]
Is there anything you can do to counteract his ability? I don't know how these things work in your world.
no subject
Ah... [making a face. Revealing a weakness that could be used against himself is always such a tough decision. But there's also a fundamental problem with that weakness on dusty-ass murderplanet] The only counteragent is the sea: seawater. Which, I'm sure you realize, is kind of a problem here.
The best course is to steer clear of him and wait to see what he'll do. I could be paranoid for no reason... [hah]
no subject
I very much intend to avoid him. But when you mean seawater, does it have to be actually from an ocean or would saltwater work? Do you think if there was an ocean here that its seawater would even work, since it's a totally different world?
[What would count as an ocean anyway?]
no subject
I don't know the exact science behind it. But, in the absence of actual seastone, water is the only alternative. Actually...any pool of still water deep enough to submerge a person will do. [a moment's thought makes him snort in derision] You don't splash it on a Devil Fruit user like holy water. Submersion robs them of the ability to use their power. Come to think of it, I wonder if the temple pools will be enough...?
no subject
But okay, he's not going to be pedantic, this is about practicality.]
Maybe. It's worth a try as a last resort option, but hopefully he will just... Not cause problems.
[He doesn't even try to hide the look on his face that indicates he knows what he's saying is pretty far-fetched.]
no subject
[who knows how it'll turn out? And now Lance knows how to take down Law if necessary...]
Anyway. Not to make this all about my problems. You enjoying this...thing? [this party goddamn Law]
no subject
But he brightens a little at the question, allowing the subject change without protest.]
It's pretty great. I'm not really into parties, but it's nice to have food I actually want.
[For the first time in... He's not sure, honestly.]
You seem less enthused, though; is it because of the issue we just spoke about, or...?
no subject
no subject
[After he trades around a bit and gets to try a few more things, and then he's going to bail back to his own apartment.]
no subject
[but really, he can't stay on his guard all night, that's no fun. Law nods in agreement with Lance's plan - it's as good a one as any. Now, how much coffee and alcohol can his arms hold?]
Better than nothing, I guess.
no subject
[And all of that settled--]
I'll leave you to it, and good luck. If it does disappear though, send me a message so I don't bother carrying things.
[He's half joking.]
no subject
...yeah all right. Later.
