Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

► This log covers May 27th-June 10th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you drown or get eaten by an alien shark, let us know here.

But you can be swept out to sea to be lost for all time.

[Points out Bruce, shaking his head.]

Don't try it without a rope.
outofthefire: (not a second thought)

[she knows for damn sure. maybe it's time for a little public service announcement once the next group of new kids come in]

Trust me, this is not me being huffy. [she gets out the wine and a wineglass and pours a good dry red, puts a napkin down on the bartop, and places the wineglass on the napkin] Enjoy.

[That's enough tormenting the girl for her tastes. She'll go find someone else to sit with - preferably someone either more pleasant, or more easily lured into falling to her whims, whatever they might be. She slides out of her seat and takes the napkin and glass with a wink.]

I will.

Yeah, I'm in one of the Spires here. And I haven't. I did do a little exploring and found Rage's temple, Confusion's temple, the Park, and the Sewing Shop. People actually still sew?

[it's beginning to look that way. the gods don't like to make anything easy on anyone]
outofthefire: (am I that girl that you dream of?)

[personal profile] outofthefire 2018-06-01 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
You better. You get sick and I'm figuring out a way to drag your ass to the Clinic, even if I have to hitch a ride on someone else's boat. Assuming we get any.
abyssalarcana: (mountains suspended over mountains)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-06-01 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Of course they still sew, if they can't cast. And even some of the magically-inclined tailors still find some of their work is best done by hand.

[An odd thing to ask about, really. Caedra wouldn't have assumed clothing could be made any other way, and everyone is clothed here. The false gods do provide some clothing but most of it is unflattering and made of poor material compared to what she's used to.]

Did you expect something else? Is clothing made some other way, where you come from?

"I suppose it would be nice to get away from us. You don't seem happy sharing a city with so many human beings."

He suddenly registers her question. "You mean you don't know that already?"

Maglor and Maedhros were the ones who came for revenge. Presumably at the time, she would have recognized Maglor from when he showed up at Rage's temple to help Curufin fight her summoned demons. And he thinks it's quite likely that Maglor announced his name and intentions when he finally tracked Caedra down. An ancient tradition amongst warriors! It's considered rude to kill somebody without a formal declaration.

"No."

He answers, when she speaks. It's been a long night, yes, and he's more han a little tired, and wrapped up in what he's been doing thoroughly enough that it feels like it's completely appropriate to answer;

"I'm where I'm supposed to be."

He normally can't abide cosmic pronouncements, but this time it's true.

"What are you doing to that tree?"
abyssalarcana: (even now you mark my steps)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-06-01 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
There were elves. She can't say she knows who they were. She wasn't really paying attention through all the hate and violence. She doesn't normally care to learn the names of her victims, when their lives are usually cut short so soon after. Just because she was the one cut down, in this situation, doesn't change that - or it wouldn't have, except that their names will some day help in Amamot's long-term goals, which she is always so eager to assist in.

"I know there are people from your world here. I had not realized they were related to you."
myrealname: (I am a bonfire I am a vampire)

[personal profile] myrealname 2018-06-01 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
It's huge. Has almost nine million people, all crammed in there. [New York is noisy and smelly and hard to live in, but she wouldn't have it any other way (a lie)]

So there's never any time to just kick back and relax? Ever?
toiletseat_girl: (do you know where my spark is?)

[personal profile] toiletseat_girl 2018-06-01 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Probably would. And it's not like anyone can go looking for me.

[not that they would, she thinks]

I won't, I won't. You don't try it, either. You can drown.
outofthefire: (he said to be cool but I’m already cool)

[personal profile] outofthefire 2018-06-01 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
[oh, was that meant to be tormenting? mostly Laura was bored]

Glad to hear it.
abyssalarcana: (so he can boil the disobedient)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-06-01 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Nothing."

She is of course aware of what is probably happening to the tree. But she isn't doing anything to it; rather, the tree is dying of its own inability to tolerate such an intense concentration of evil. For some demons, animals turn rabid and violent in their presence, or the ground becomes boiling mud, or disease follows in their footsteps. Her effect on the world is quieter than some but no less destructive.

"You look like you've been awake for days. Or perhaps, like you died and kept walking. Are you a zombie?"

A joke. He doesn't look entirely pale enough to be undead, even if he comes close.
myrealname: (on a cruise to freak you out)

(cw: racial insensitivity)

[personal profile] myrealname 2018-06-01 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously?

[she's used to the stores of London and what they had to offer. the idea of making clothes by hand is completely weird to her. it sounds like Amish people]

Yeah, it's made by five year olds in China or Bangladesh or some other country. And you take the Underground to the stores you like and buy it there.
abyssalarcana: (even now you mark my steps)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-06-01 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Well, then someone is still making the clothing, just not you. I can't imagine children are any good at sewing, though. No wonder everyone dresses so poorly.

[Seriously if you're going to use slave labor to do menial tasks at least make sure you get people who are suited for it. Children aren't much good for anything.]

You know, come to think of it, there aren't many children here. I guess even the parasites-in-charge don't want them around. Wonder what that means for the few who are here.
myrealname: (play boomerang with your demons)

[personal profile] myrealname 2018-06-01 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, no one hand-sews anything. It's all done on machines.

[children come cheaper and are more easily replaced]

That they got very, very, very unlucky.
abyssalarcana: (they drown in the magmatic pool)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-06-01 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Machines - you mean a loom? That's still handmade work though, as I see it. Unless you mean something like... like the phones? But able to make clothing?

[Whaaaat is this crazy world she comes from? Making a strange device that can then make clothes seems like an awful lot of work compared to just making the clothes and not bothering with the middle step.]
soldier_blade: (30-equipment check)

[personal profile] soldier_blade 2018-06-01 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
"A message over the network would be a good idea over all." She agreed. "Getting everyone organized, finding those who have spare rooms or bedding." With only three guards on the island, there was no way they could do all of this and still keep guard against dangers. "We should keep someone on hand to make sure food is properly rationed out until Hope could get her energy back."

The entire conversation, Sonya kept an eye on him as well as the papers he was reading and writing on. "I've scouted some of the area before, and I could make some crab and fish netting to set aside. Again though, someone needs to keep watch to make sure they're not lost to sea."
myrealname: (on a cruise to freak you out)

[personal profile] myrealname 2018-06-01 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I mean something like the phones. Only bigger and noisier and more likely to chop an arm off.

[21st century Earth. 2004 to be exact. and between the machines and the kids, they make clothing really cheap]
outofthefire: (am I that girl that you dream of?)

28th, audio

[personal profile] outofthefire 2018-06-01 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Hi. Where'd you end up?

Re: 28th, audio

[personal profile] kingforboth 2018-06-01 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I was asleep when we got moved. I'm by my apartments. Spire four I believe. West island.

Where are you?
abyssalarcana: (so he can boil the disobedient)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-06-01 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
As much as I would probably value a creation that is large and noisy and capable of removing limbs, I don't think it would be my first choice when designing something to make my clothing. But I have to say, should I ever get to see your world, it sounds like it will certainly be educational.

[And she hopes she does get to. That is absolutely the biggest upside of this place - knowledge of just how much variety is out there in the multiverse. If the Abyss truly wants to reclaim all of these worlds then they have their work cut out for them, but there is plenty of time for that, and she looks forward to the thousands upon thousands of years of bloodshed that will result.]

No, I can't.

[He admits, hands on his hips. They haven't had this conversation, but;]

I'm not the same as you, but I'm closer than not.

"If you'd ever seen a zombie you wouldn't have to ask that. It's never ambiguous, you don't have to wonder about the slavering undead."

In Quentin's opinion, anyways.

"I'm an academic. It's both more and less different than one might think."
abyssalarcana: (black beads do glitter)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-06-01 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, so you've met a few! Good. Well - only good in that most everyone else here says they have nothing of the sort where they come from, and their worlds are full of humans with machines and nothing else. The lack of variety gets boring."

She considers him for a moment. Yeah, okay, academic explains a few things about his appearance. Those types never seem to make it outside their libraries and colleges often. Although - he doesn't look completely bookish either.

"What do you study?"
