Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

► This log covers May 27th-June 10th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you drown or get eaten by an alien shark, let us know here.

I don't mind. What were the other choices, right? I certainly wouldn't want to be scavenging for winter clothing on some sort of arctic ice ball.

I've lived there before, and it's deeply unpleasant.

No no, you have it backwards. Here.

[Caedra holds out her hand and speaks a short incantation, and an image shimmers to life above her palm. It's a complex wheel of an image, with spokes connecting from one place to another, but across the middle horizontally is a row of circles. The whole thing is encased in a larger circle, and above it is an image of a mountain. Below, everything seems to drain into a river, or the roots of a large tree, and connected to those branching pathways are other diagrams. One is an upside down triangle divided into nine tiers; another is a long corkscrew that looks posed to engulf all else - or perhaps it is the mouth from which everything came.]

Inside the big circle are the material worlds. That circle is the astral plane. The ones outside are the outer planes, and the center is this spiral one down here. And this is just a fraction of how much there really is.

"Not much of a choice, if it's just a few of us on each island." With only a handful on each island, there was only so much they could do on their own; they had to enlist skilled-civilians. "Learned how when training for the military. There's some reeds and seaweed just along the shoreline, I've no problem instructing anyone on how to build and maintain them."

Thank whatever gods listening that she had several knives on her, such as would make the task easier. The cages and lures wouldn't be especially that strong, but it only pressed on the need to involve others in learning how to maintain them.

"Medical? I don't know about everyone on this place, and we've been lucky thus far with the clinic-to my knowledge, but I'd rather not put things to chance. All islands need to find a place where people with any medical or first-aid training could be contacted."

[Her head spines pop up when he speaks, almost not expecting someone to have responded to her. She wouldn't be surprised if she was just out here, watching the waves forever and had lost track of time. But Alphys is pleased to see it's him, giving Adam a smile.]

I know, r-right? I mean, I've read about it, and seen it touch the horizon in, uhm, in shows, but... really being here. It's something different.

[It occurs to her then, and she looks towards him.]

Is this your first time, uhm, s=seeing the ocean too?

Alphys has tried to get used to Ravine just popping in out of nowhere. It's not horribly unusual- Sans could teleport, and she got used to that- but also, this still looks more like something's coming to attack her. But she does tilt her head when she sees it out of the corner of her eye, head spines alert but certainly not bolting, and visibly relaxes with a drop to her shoulders when she recognizes who it is.

"H-Hey, Ravine." Alphys gives her a little wave, hand moving to rub the back of her neck. "It's, uh, it's just kind of-- complicated? Trying to figure out how to get home."

"First, then: what the Null call 'parasites', most everyone else here will call 'gods'," Caedra explains, with a heavy dash of sarcasm on the latter title. "They're a race of magically-inclined people who feed of emotion, but gods they are certainly not."

Thieves, kidnappers, self-centered assholes - she has many names for them. They might even be celestials of some sort for all she knows, but that doesn't make them deities and she refuses to give them the satisfaction they seek with what seems to be a self-appointed name.

"And as for a break-out effort, yes, I'm sure there are several." Such as her, for instance, but she isn't going to take someone on that she doesn't even know. "What do you think you could do to help?"

[Gren is literally in the first house in the first spiral, because he's been here longer than all you assholes. Gren is the salty winter adult to all of you sweet summer children.]

PUTTING 'FANTASY' IN FRONT OF SOMETHING DON'T MAKE IT A REN FAIRE THING.

[And, yes, you're going to be playing marco polo with a yelling, pissy murderpotato. So is everyone else within earshot, Gren's got a set of lungs on him.]

"I've killed gods before." He says, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. He's extremely matter of fact about this. But it's not a literal deus ex machina, because;
"It might take a couple of years, but it's one potential avenue."

Nothing that big is ever easy.

I'm no shipwright either. [ Maglor nods ] None of my kinsmen are, I'm afraid! But Curufin is clever - if anyone could work it out, it will be him. I don't know if we've enough wood though, not for something of sufficient magnitude.

"Have swam farther."

Granted, with her strength and fortitude, Rey can last much longer than most would. If she had half a mind, she would see just how far out she could make it.

Nick had a point about what could be out there, though. There's no telling what sort of aquatic life exists on this planet.

She sighs, scratching the side of her neck as she thinks. "Maybe. Not really. Don't know." She grunts. "Would just be nice not having the whole city divided like this. It's fucking bullshit."
synthedick: (♠ hypothesis)

[personal profile] synthedick 2018-06-04 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Chagrin or not, there's a part of Nick that appreciates Rey's candor; he meets her smile with a wry one of his own.

"Our main problem is gonna be the Door when it opens up," he notes, tapping the Colosseum on his papers. "Unless it starts bringing in creatures that can swim, we'll have to take care of all of them. No caves to chase them into."

Or desert, or tundra, or even jungle. It's one of those problems he doubts most people thought of when voting for their new home. It seems the one thing most folks managed to agree on was that Love ought to be last in line for revival.

[Kelson would very much like more occasions for joy. There wasn't enough of it on either of their worlds, and while it could always be worse, why couldn't it be better too? He'd like to live in hope of what could be, and build that.]

Well you did a lovely job, I'm glad I wear your work well.

[It need not be said that Ignis required persuading more than once that he probably shouldn't try to make the crossing to another island without a boat. There had been more than one person that he keenly wished to have at his side and as he is surprised by the arrival of one, he begins to make plans to reach the other.

He sets foot on the western island without sending word ahead, giving a small smile of thanks to the person who got him there. Ferry services would be in great demand, he imagines, for as long as they remain on this planet.

From the shore he makes his way to the clinic. She'd been sleeping in there, she said, and he has little reason to think she would be anywhere else (he knows how your mind operates, Kate, and how you throw yourself into work just like he does). When he steps inside he's looking for that tell-tale flash of bright pink hair, and the moment he sees it it's like a small weight lifts.

She has her back to him and just for a few moments he watches her working, his sharp expression softened at the edges. He crosses to her, and lightly touches her hip.

Pardon me, but I'm looking for someone.

( Yes, she's still very, very aware of the fact that he'd quite like to swim over to find Noctis even if the idea is as stupid as it gets. The announcement of Curufin's boat being completed was a welcome one indeed, but with the clinic staff divided among the four islands and new supplies equally as scattered, Kate's been too busy coordinating all the things each place needs to consider personal trips just yet.

She expects that Ignis would be straight on his way to Noctis, because it's exactly what she'd do if her friends from home were here. If Faith was here, on another island. There's plenty to do here and she'll call him later.

Footsteps echo as she's in the middle of putting away new supplies in the storage closet and she pays them no mind for the moment, barely paying the attention needed to identify the owner. If it's not a staff member, they'll say something, surely.

...Or there'll be a hand at her hip, and a familiar voice that speaks before she has a chance to brush it away. Her chest tightens in a way that's oddly pleasant, that last held breath before the tightness in her shoulders disappears when she turns around.

[It's good to see her. Like when she came back from her excursion into the desert, being around her feels so much like coming back to a comfortable place; somewhere he can temporarily place his more troublesome thoughts aside.]

Mm, she does. [He tells her, lightly brushing a stray curl of hair away from her forehead.]

Kate. Perhaps you know her.

( There's still plenty of work to be done, but it falls out of the forefront of her mind in the face of seeing him again, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth when he pushes stray hair from her face. )

Ah. She's on break now.

( What? She runs this place. She can totally take a break. )

Ah.

[He left a good deal of work behind him to come here, but there has been a certain reshuffling of his priorities since she came into his life and some unexpected things have dropped further down in the pecking order than he would have expected them to.

Until they can set up a separate clinic, the guard house will have to do... but he's left it in good hands.
]

Do you think you could tell her that her boyfriend is here, and he'd like to spend some time with her?
kingforboth: (thinking)

[personal profile] kingforboth 2018-06-04 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
That at least he understood. Exams. Everyone was nervous about being tested, no matter what it entailed. It was nature. Kelson smiled at that, and glanced at her, then back at the water.

"I'm sure he'll do his best." Kelson turned away, knowing that was a poor comfort and that there was little he could do to make it better. She was here and he was there. It was true. Even if they were both together, there was still only so much she could do. Sometimes, those we loved had to sink or swim on their own accord.

"Your welcome."

( Now that they have a boat, Kate can start thinking seriously about organising people into island bases and all the rest of it, but that thought is quickly set to one side in favour of letting hands trace up his arms lightly. )

Where's he taking her?

( It's very important that she doesn't go missing a whole day, obviously. It's not like she's been here 24/7 since they left the last planet. )

[Lance raises his eyebrows at the comment and the look, finding it a little amusing that Carlisle would know such a thing, but then again it's not like Lance doesn't have his own knowledge and skills that would prompt a similar reaction.]

Good to know. Any sort of medicinal purposes that are useful here?

[Because something like cancer is not exactly an issue in this place--at least not that he's aware of--but he distinctly remembers a lack of pain killers and antibiotics sometimes when they were needed.]

Probably not, unless the undead become a threat.

[He grimaces just a bit at the term undead. He knows there are some in the city; he just hopes they do not find him the way Armand did. Not all of them can be reasonable, comical skeletons, the only kind of undead he tolerates.]

Bloodworts are often used for salves, particularly those to treat wounds inflicted by the undead. Bites and scratches fester readily, spreading disease. Some infections create more mindless undead, and if not curbed, an entire village may find itself swarmed in a matter of days.
