Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

[Right, right, maybe something like the pipe for a shower, that would be long and straight. She's not sure if she has the tools to get at one easily without damaging it but she knows someone who probably does. How much does she want to lean on Law's abilities to disassemble things?

Eh, she can pay him back if he complains. Okay. Good plan.]

I'll get your pole somehow. And I'll have a headcount after I put up the public notice, but - have you met that woman who calls herself Boss? She seemed excited about it. And there were a few others. It might only be something like two matches the first night, but it we're lucky, word will spread once they all have a good time with it.

[as does Margaery. she dresses like she's going to spend every day on display and she wants to make sure that it's a good one. her crown, though, is on the South Island along with her home]

I'm trapped on the North Island. I was at my Shop when the move occurred. You're fortunate to have still been at home.

Thank you. It's so kind of you to say so.

I'm eighteen. [she thinks] That's not a child.

[that's good, because Laura's not looking to befriend the demon, either. she knows that demons don't have friends, they just have victims.

fine. fine. fine. she siiiiiighs]

It's not bad. Happy?

[At least they'd be well dressed when they were together. Kelson was a little sheepish.]

I was asleep. And it is no kindness, I speak only the truth.

[Kelson was a notoriously late sleeper. One of his Duke's once barged in to his room when he saw the light on early morning, convinced something horrible had happened to him to be up so early when he did not have to be.]

[exactly! a shower pipe would work just fine. and do it, lean on him. that's what men are there for]

Thanks. And I can't say that I have. Of course, I haven't been here long. And this island thing isn't gonna help me meet new people. And, they'll have a good time. Who doesn't love a good fight?

[She just shrugs at Laura's protest, smiling a little. She remembers that age well - that's one block of memories from her past life that seems to have stuck firmly. Caedra had thought herself very much an adult then, too.]

I'll take it, sure. Now - if you could buy such a service, to provide drinks that Rey can't easily make herself, what do you think you would be willing to pay?

[Judging by Caedra's relaxed posture as she grins over at Laura from her seat, this is probably not a serious business deal. She's just thinking aloud, and curious about the answer.]

[they'd be the belle and the beau of the ball. if Hadriel had balls]

I tend to wake early and head straight for the Shop. And may I say that you look handsome?

[oh, dear. yes, that would be embarrassing, having one's Duke assuming that something awful had happened the one time he woke early]

[oh yeah? what were Caedra's teen years like? by the time Laura saw seventeen, she'd been a victim of horrors at the hands of a demon for years]

I'd pay nothing because there's always a catch with you.

[she trusts Caedra about as far as she can throw the island]

[Hadriel needed a ball. That was something Kelson could do and knew what was expected. And Margaery was quite safe as far as a future queen of Gwynedd so he needn't be concerned.]

Why thank you, my lady. I would say the honor is all yours, as you did have a hand in the entire matter.

[Quite embarrassing. Turned out someone did die, but....at least it wasn't the king?]

[He's been very good at caving to her requests so far! What a helpful guy.]

Oh, you're - you're probably stuck here, aren't you? No magic, and a lot of cold, cold water. I wonder how many islands there are? And I wonder where the colosseum even ended up?

[It's okay, she'll get to exploring soon after this.]

[It's a long, long story full of bloodshed and desperation.]

Well, that's no fun. Maybe Rey will appreciate my services more, if she's the one I really owe my thanks to. Now, get me something else to drink, would you? Wine, perhaps. I don't care for beer.

A whole one person on that list right now.

[is that better?]

[she'd ask if she cared]

Not everyone here is here to entertain you. [she's sure as hell not] What kind of wine?

[but guys always disappoint you in the end]

Yeah, I'm stuck and I never could swim worth a damn. And, I have no idea. I did a little exploring earlier and thought I could see an island in the distance.

[To be fair he'd basically said as much, a few weeks back. It's just that she finds such joy in teasing him. Tall, stoic, and so prone to blushing.]

Mm. Good. A good list. All right, fine, I'll let you go. Have fun with your fish.

[Have a one-armed squeeze before she steps away with a smirk on her lips.]

[And Caedra wouldn't share, so they're even!]

That's what you think. [She smiles.] Red. Something dry.

Right, when the clouds lift you can just see one to the south there - watch for the spire of the temple.

[She points. The fog makes it hard to make out, but it's there.]

It's not quite a mile off, maybe less. Really hard to say with this weather. But that's one of the temples from the city, so buildings must have ended up in all sorts of different places.

Yeah. I'll talk to you later.

[it's not an idle remark, either, it's a promise. He'll text her later after he's yoinked a few fish out of the sea and given it a taste-test]

Caedra may hope for that, but she might find that it is extremely difficult for an external force to gain entry to Arda. That universe is guarded by the Wall of Night, beyond which is the Void. When the Valar finally went to war with their brother god, Morgoth, to prevent him from destroying what was left of Middle-earth, they threw him into the Void, where he forever roams in fury and hatred but cannot get back in. Caedra would not only have to get past the Wall, she'd have to get past Morgoth! He's a sort of involuntary watchdog, a very fierce one.

But we do not know, since that day has not come.

Curufin listens to her answer to his question.

"Yes, it's called cabin fever, in the Common Speech. Apparently our worlds have that in common. Nobody likes to be confined. Do you have some way to travel amongst the islands here?"

[Law's trying to fish the old fashioned way, but...]

...I don't think that's going to help me.

[what's that old saying about noise scaring away the fish? oh hey Maglor.]

It- feels like an improvement?

[Says Quentin, beside her, blinking quietly.]

I mean. Kind of? Now that I've said that we're gonna get jaws up in here, huh?

Hey. I'm thinking of taking it up.

[He admits, resting his hands on his hips.]

What do you think? I can't even really judge what that distance is.

[He erupts into laughter as soon as he hears Gren's scratchy voice hollering back, the noise no less sharp and certainly not less irritating than his regular talk.]

Oh shit, this the siren call around this place? No lovely songs, just Mr. Potato Head over there screaming at the top of his lungs? Boooo, I demand a do over.

"I do. And I'm glad they're a little more space than the city before, but with sea instead of desert, the whole world feels smaller. At least before I could walk for days if I really wanted to."

But enough of these people are keen on making or finding boats of some fashion, so she imagines that won't be a problem for long. Still, unless she learns to sail, she won't be able to get far on her own, and being dependent on someone else for transportation is nearly as bad as imprisonment.

[He quirks an ear towards the speech, tilting his head just a little while keeping an eye on the work in front of him.]

Uh, the knives aren't magic, what they're doing is magic, duh.

[As if that's the most obvious thing in the world. He's workin' on a spell here!]

And uhhh, if it works and you've got the right biz to give me.
