Carlisle stiffens as a stranger addresses him -- it's not Leo in particular, but more of his natural reaction to anyone he doesn't now approaching him. He does, however, see that quiet fear in the other man's eyes, as though he's intimidated by the choppy waters before them. Carlisle can't say he blames him, really.
"If there truly is a bottom to be met in that abyss," Carlisle notes, his own gaze returning to the waves, and to the serpentine form of his partner beyond them. "I have no doubt there lies something within the depths just waiting to swallow up anyone who would brave them... and yet, some are so desperate to cross the gap to the other islands that they'd risk their lives to do so. A foolhardy endeavor."
