"Taller than my father, who stood like a mountain," Carlisle answers -- it rolls off his tongue, as an oft-used colloquialism would. "Though I cannot say the height has given me an advantage in life. It is far more difficult to avoid attention when you're so tall."

Given who he is and what family he comes from, he has wished he were shorter more than once in his life; however, he knows good and well that if he were, he'd likely see that as another point against his place in the Longinmouth line. He has far too much against him in that regard as it is.
