( Since the return of her vision and the subsequent transfer to the islands, Kate has watched the Colosseum with interest. Always wandering around - easily explained when there were so few places to go on the western island - and kicking rocks, eyes glowing white with power.
There really appears to be no pattern to the door, some days its power is impossible to see, others it nearly blinds her. That said, she expects it to flare dizzyingly bright today, wears sunglasses despite the drizzle and crouches down on the floor, ignoring the rocks in favour of running her fingers along the ground. If it can be seen through the ground, maybe she can latch onto it with her power without having to open the earth.
... It's a theory. And not a massively successful one. One that does nothing more than to put her in the perfect position for the crab that comes whizzing towards her, and - because concentrating on the earth does not mean forgetting to listen to your surroundings - Kate reacts with flawless timing, throwing herself to the floor before looking for the source of the near-concussion. )
