Intro Log: Please Remove Metal From Luggage

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for August
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: August 10th-13th
Warnings: New folks, metal falling apart, fun stuff

As you wake up on the sand of the colosseum, gazing up at cloudy gray skies, you might wonder what you're doing here. Where are you? How did you get here? You'll figure it all out soon enough, so try to clamp down on that rising panic, or you just might end up in a dangerous situation.

Because, of course, you're not the only thing that arrived. The Door has also chosen to pull in some rust monsters. These monsters may look a bit like insects, but they're much larger, with a rather vicious bite. You can fight them, but be careful - anything metal that touches them instantly begins to corrode. Your sword, a bullet from your gun, even your robot friend. Might want to keep a little distance.

And that's not all. Scattered across the ground of the colosseum can be found a variety of unique and delightful musical instruments. If you're the musical sort, maybe you can figure out how to play one - or maybe you already know. Hopefully no rust monster has wandered too close to the one you want to try, or you might find that it's missing important metal bits.

Once you've found a way to express the song in your heart, feel free to leave whatever bit of safety you've found. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[He moves over so that he can properly play the glasses. And indeed, yes, he can play the glasses far better than anyone has the right to be able to. Looks like he really can play anything.]

Wouldn't really go so far as to claim the title of "gourmand" so much as... am not a very picky eater. [Heh.]

[The name rings a bell... and then Rey realizes she recognizes the name enough to put a face to it. Jo's one of those people who has been around for a long time, but Rey hasn't had much of an actual conversation with.]

Ah, that's... awkward.

[Rey pretty much specializes in awkward relationships.]

Some people have come here claiming to know a version of me from another world. Don't suppose that's the case with her, is it?

I don't know, I kind of like it. Keeps things exciting.

[ Sure, Rose. That's the word for it. ]

Except for when the city splits in half and there were monsters everywhere. That time sucked.

Super fucking awkward, trust me.

[ That's something they have in common. ]

I think it probably is. She has no recollection of Haven, just her homeworld before Hadriel. I must've met a different her. Not that like that doesn't happen in these places. We cycled through like five versions of one dude I was friends with when I first arrived.

Newt sighs. That's incredibly nonspecific. He drags himself to his feet and heads over to get a closer look at the bone.

"When was that, exactly?" He picks up the bone, squinting at it. Hm. It's too small a fragment to immediately know what it's from.

"And where did you find it? Just, like, on the ground, or something?"

( Now if that isn't something she relates to hard, though the days of being sleep deprived are long behind her, thankfully. )

Either boring or crazy. Nothing in between.

( Basically, Hadriel is like the world's shittest holiday. Nothing to do and then everything goes wrong and you're just pissed off. )

[She waves her hands in front of her chest.]

Ohmygosh, no, d-don't worry about it. I was just tinkering. It can be hard to find that old info, and I know a lot of people are, uhm, really against the Gods. It's important everyone has the facts.

Ohmygosh y-yeah. I really hope that doesn't happen again.

[She chuckles, suddenly all too aware of how much has really gone wrong here over the years.]

Maybe we can, uhm, go a year without a catastrophe this time? That'd be nice. Just the... normal amount of c-city weirdness, huh?

She's watching carefully as he unwraps the thing, arching a brow ridge as she looks at it and standing on her tiptoes to try and look from underneath Newt's hand.

"Wait, it was just, uh, i-in the Coliseum? I feel like we'd know if there was just, uh, a monster bone, or something getting torn to shreds like that right?"

It would be my pleasure!

[He cries, all too genuinely. He’s going to turn this into a good thing if it’s the last good thing he ever gets. George is going to enjoy every damn minute of it, and maybe, just maybe, that means he will too. Stupid, fucking alternate dimensions separating him from his nakama, be damned.]

Hah, too bad. [Sanji sighs. He almost manages to sound genuine. Except he doesn’t, not at all.] I’m already attached. My captain’s made it clear he isn’t ready to share his cook.

Guess I’m stuck charming the pants off you shitheads then.

[He scratches at the back of his head, displacing hair somewhat sheepishly.]

I prefer to give people more than just what they require. And I’d love to give you everything your heart desires! It’s up to you, Miss Carolina.

[But if she leaves without changing her mind, he won’t follow her like the little lost duckling he secretly is.]

[Sanji’s boundless energy is certainly a strong point. When your job is to keep up with the most boisterous and volatile man on the ocean, caterwauling head first into a country-wide revolution every Thursday, you level your stamina real fucking fast. Add to that the fact that the mere sight of such a lovely lady is enough to motivate Sanji into inhuman feats of love… Well. One lively dance is nothing, really.

He cackles, bright and earnest.]

I could never accept such a grand gesture, not when you’ve already graced me with the gift of a dance! But… if you were to make a drink for me, I would be beside myself with pure happiness. I could make one for you in return~

[Sanji is genuinely impressed, and he kind of hates it. He still can’t hold back a snicker.]

[And indeed, he seems a little over happy at such a simple prospect. The thought that she’d appreciate literally anything he could whip up for her is like Sanji’s Christmas.]

[George is in a different situation. the only Reaper she misses left long before she came here and her family was imploding after her death. she's in no hurry to go back and is actually looking for another world to call home]

So, what kinds of things do you like to cook most?

[There is a slight pause, not because she is considering taking him up on his offer. Rather-]

There are some things that once they're lost, you can't get them back.

[Not that she does elaborate. She wouldn't. She rarely speaks too much about herself or her past to people outside of those she knows from home. A few know a piece here or there, but trivial things. Nothing that in depth.]

I do suggest you don't linger around here. Find some place to live. People you know, if there are any here.

[He laughs like she's asked an impossible question. She kind of has. He answers anyway though, like he's cluing her into some ancient secret.]
