[closed] (loud screaming) BOAT PARTY
Who: Taako, Lup, Barry, Kravitz, Magnus, Lance, and Nate.
What: 7 assholes, two boats, heading into the ocean for the chance to look for some buckwild stuff.
Where: Out at sea!
When: The entirety of the voyage; August 13th-September 3rd.
Warnings: Idk PG-13 levels of shirtlessness, curse words, maybe somebody ends up overboard at some point. Should be cool.
This is a catch all for the boat party for this group! Make top-levels for threads within this time and go friggin' wild. For convenience, I've provided 3 toplevel headers as general timeline assistance; as far as events of the voyage go, it'll basically be:
Week One: (August 13th-19th) Leaving the city and traveling to the fragment!
Week Two: (August 20th-26th) Still traveling, picking up whatever they find somewhere in here, since it's about the middle.
Week Three: (August 27th- Sept 3rd) Traveling and arriving home!
Feel free not to use exact dates, I sure don't care, this is just to help figure out if things happened before other things, OTHERWISE GO WILD

It's early enough in the whole adventure that Lance doesn't totally hate life yet, although he's still not so sure about having agreed to come along. It could definitely be worse, and it's actually kind of neat to see endless water and have the quiet of the ship and not be needed constantly for things, but on the other hand...
It's boring. There's only so many times Lance can watch the waves, or mess with the fishing poles he doesn't intend to use, or stalk the network for what stupid conversation people have left public. It's getting old.
So while the two boats are nearby, the journey paused for a short time for everyone to rest, Lance is peering curiously over the edge of the boat into the water.]
So if this planet is mostly water, shouldn't it have really huge creatures in the ocean?
no subject
He peers over the edge beside Lance, the two of them directing matching stares into the ocean.]
I suppose that would make sense. ...You know, you really shouldn't tempt fate in this way.
no subject
You're probably right, but now that we acknowledged it we should be good.
[Hopefully.]
But we should also probably take the possibility of giant sea monsters in account when people going diving for the fragment.
no subject
[The words might sound rather sarcastic, but there's a teasing grin on Kravitz's face that makes it clear he's not trying to actually be nasty.]
Mm, you make a fair point. Perhaps there's some way we can scout ahead before going down there. Maybe Taako has a spell... Otherwise, we simply arm ourselves.
no subject
[He can tell it isn't meant maliciously, and offers a bit of a grin himself even if he's serious again soon after.]
Does magic work the same underwater? Like if someone can cast a spell to protect themselves, would they be able to do that while diving?
no subject
Well, a good majority of spells do require a verbal component. However, so long as the caster is able to form the words, it doesn't normally matter at what volume they are spoken, or if they can even hear themselves. The spell should work exactly the same- unless of course, water would by nature affect the type of magic. A fire spell, for example.
no subject
[Often times it just resulted him in screaming "AHOY" at people from a distance and hoping they'd wave back.]
[So all in all it wasn't the worst thing in the world, but certainly not the most exciting.]
[Magnus approaches Lance and leans on the railing next to him, looking into the waters below.]
That would be super cool if there was. Maybe one will pop up while we're sailing and I can fight it or something!
[Even though he's not the most equipped to fight something in the water, but that would be a problem for future Magnus.]
no subject
[He's seen movies, okay. They all say even huge pirate ships can't really stand up to over-exaggerated giant squid, and Lance definitely wouldn't put it past this weird planet to actually have monsters like that.]
no subject
[He's fought a bunch of giant things before and they
usuallyhaven't killed him in the past.]Plus, I know a shit ton about carpentry, so if the boat got damage I'd probably be able to fix it.
[Key word probably.]
no subject
Are you one of the wizards, or...?
[He knows Taako and Lup are, of course, but that's about it.]
no subject
[Off topic.]
Lup, Taako and Barry are wizards. Kravitz might count too since he's the actual grim reaper. Got like...dead people magic or something.
no subject
[Don't sell that short, alright, but okay he has to ask--]
How does that work in your world? The grim reaper thing.
no subject
[Cause that would be the coolest thing in the world.]
I just know he works for the Raven Queen down in the Astral Plane. He takes souls there when people die and arrests people who apparently cheat death or do necromancy and stuff like that. Stuff that goes against death, I guess.
He tried to arrest us one cause we apparently all had death counts and hadn't "checked into" the Astral Plane...though he wasn't really wrong about that. We did all die a bunch of times. Though I guess the Raven Queen is cool with us, since he didn't try to arrest us again after the first time.
no subject
And okay, that's a whole explanation that kind of goes over his head, but he does get the general idea at least.]
What is it that you do in your world to end up with a death count? Are you adventurers?
no subject
You interested in finding out with me? [Lance may peek over the railing, but Lup sits on it with her feet hanging overboard, bare toes touching the water. With how the boat tips from this way to that on the waves, it probably looks pretty dangerous.
But she's kinda into that.]
Cuz I could get us down there real quick.
no subject
I don't really swim unless I absolutely have to, and my only good defenses probably aren't great underwater.
[Neither a gun nor electricity magic would probably be the best options.]
But I definitely think you--general you--should find out what might be down there before you go diving for a fragment.
no subject
[So like, everyone but her and her brother and Nathan Drake, naturally.
Lup doesn't know Lance very well, outside of Drake talking about him like he's a secret fanboy of the guy, but she has a feeling he'd get along well with Barry. Poor guy could use some more friends in this place. Maybe she'll shove them together to talk nerd shit later.]
No worries, doc. We will. Taako an' I will check it out before Nate gears up and just drops in. Make sure there's nothing just waiting to gobble him up.
no subject
[He is, fortunately, not stupid enough to go on a boat when he can't swim, but yeah. For various reasons it isn't his favorite or more practiced activity, and he appreciates that Lup is understanding.
Lance offers a small grin at that last part.]
Good, because I think I'm still traumatized from the time I had to give him stitches for a shark bite.
[He's... Not actually at all traumatized by that, but still, he'd rather not have to repeat any of that nonsense. Although he does have a healing spell now, so maybe he wouldn't have to, but he'd rather not test it out.
Also, he's curious, because although she mentioned swimming often--]
Do you dive a lot?
no subject
And if the time comes to leave, will Lup really be alright with just leaving?
Lup's fingers tap against the boat's railing, her grin never faltering, no matter where her thoughts take her.]
Since coming to our own personal island? Hell yeah, what the hell else is there to do? I've done some pretty sweet dives right off of the bigger cliffs off of the western island. The super dangerous ones.
[She rolls her shoulders, turning her smile to Lance.] I figure if I fuck it up, I won't really be gone that long.
no subject
Do I need to lecture you on why that isn't exactly the best attitude to have?
[Because sure, he's absolutely not in professional mode at the moment, but he doesn't have to be to pull out a lecture on how people shouldn't be reckless with their well-being just because they'll come back here.]
no subject
Which. She probably has.]
Look, it's different for me. I don't exactly die. I'm a lich.
no subject
no subject
He's pretty good at that.]
I'm like a ghostly specter comprised completely of magic, alright. If my physical body gets dunked on, I just rise out of it and continue living my best spooky life. No big.
no subject
And is that spooky life just as good as your fleshy mortal life?
[He's going to guess no or she'd be running around like that all the time.]
no subject
Mostly. I mean, I kinda prefer being able to touch an' eat an' bang my hubby, but I've been stuck in it long enough that I'm pretty used to it. 'Sides, all I have to do is go to ol' Hope and he'll whip me up a new body pronto.
The inconvenience level is pretty minor.
