Intro Log: Puddle Jumpers

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-13th
Warnings: Fresh meat, lots of rain and angry ogres

If the rain on your face isn't enough to wake you up in the colosseum, maybe the thundering footsteps and- well, thunder- is. The first thing that you may notice is that it's incredibly wet around here, with winds that could knock you over if you aren't careful and thunder that brings with it a torrent of constant rainfall.

That's all fine though, because the gods saw fit to help you out on your way in and now everyone will be waking up wearing a rain coat! These coats are a little odd, and some of them are downright silly, but we trust that you'll make do. Of course, a few of the raincoats have additional sleeves, neck holes, and entirely too many buttons as well- but hey, it's the best we could do.

Wait, what was that about thundering footsteps? Oh right, as you're navigating your new fashion choices, there are some monsters afoot who will want nothing more than to grind you into a pulp and eat you- well, if you're organic, that is. If you're not organic, then they still want to grind you to a pulp, but maybe not so much the eating part.

Ogres are from many fantasy stories, but these in particular are from the Dragon Age series. With incredible strength and stamina and massive horns, fangs, and a bloodlust for violence, these monsters won't stop until everyone around them is a blood smear on the ground. They're also not too happy about this rainfall either, so be careful not to slip in the puddles as you run away from them!

Once you've splashed around a bit, feel free to run off into the stormy abyss of our islands. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[she laughs brightly]

Well, let's see. . . obviously you missed our entire relocation onto these four bloody islands. A rogue Null surfaced, calling itself Name and claiming to have developed emotions and know where missing parts of the Door are.

That's where much of the town is, on a boat adventure trying to reclaim the lost pieces. I just hope they're not close enough to be caught in this storm. That could be truly dangerous.

How many people are out on the boat?

Honestly, I have no idea. At least twenty people? There are a lot of people who have placed their hopes on the Door fragments.

[ Ephemera doesn't blame them, really. He wishes he could be that optimistic. ]

And you? What'd you think?

[ She's not out searching, so that means something. ]

...I think that placing too much faith in Name is dangerous. It seems to have repented of its past deeds, but it is still a Null. And we know that the Null are capable of . . . selective truth-telling.

Also, it said something that concerns me, if it's true. Here, we have the so-called gods, each of a specific emotion. It told me that the Door fragments seem to embody all emotions.

[ Ephemera hums to himself, considering that. He needs more information before he can form an opinion one way or another. ] ....fuck, this stuff is beyond me. Does that mean none of the gods can control it on their own?

[that is wise. too many people take what they're told and don't reflect on it further]

It's beyond anything I've ever known, too. And, perhaps? Or perhaps it's a god in and of itself?

One other thing. I spoke to Sorrow about going to another world. He confirmed that it is possible.

Who the fuck knows. [ Sometimes it feels like anything is possible in this place, and not always in a good way. Ephemera finishes the cigarette and grinds the butt out under his boot. ] Suppose that's good, though. People like you and me have a chance. You gonna go to his world?

[ The man in the mask, he means. ]

[it does seem that way, but Margaery tries to remain hopeful. if she loses hope, she'll have little else] Yes, a chance for a life in a new world. And I will. I've stitched his name and address into the lining of all of my gowns in case the Door mucks with my memory.

[requiemshark]

That's clever. [ Ephemera wouldn't have thought of that. Programming it into his HUD, maybe, not not directly into his clothes. ] I hope you find him. It helps, having someone.

[roseofthetyrells]

Thank you. [Margaery has been taught how to be clever and resourceful by her grandmother, the Queen of Thorns. those lessons never go away, even though they may be apart] I hope so, too. And it does. It gives me a goal to work towards, rather than just--waiting here for something to happen.

[requiemshark]

I'll drink to that. [ Ephemera spent far too many years just sitting and seething, waiting for an opportunity. It didn't help. ] Place like this, it's easy to get stuck in your head.

[roseofthetyrells]

As would I! If only we were at the Speakeasy and could toast properly instead of out in the rain. [and she spent too many years chasing men for power. no longer. and she nods] Far too easy. That's why we need friends we can depend on. [a pause] I would like to become such a friend to you, Ephemera.

[requiemshark]

[ Ephemera blinks at her, surprised. ]

...yeah. Okay. I'd like that, too.

[ He doesn't have a lot of friends. Never was much good at making them. But he likes Margaery. She's easy to talk to and clever in ways he doesn't think to be. ]

You wanna come out with Drake and me sometime? We could get some real drinks then.

You would? Oh, wonderful!

[she beams. Margaery loves making friends and she feels that Ephemera will be a particularly good one. He's intelligent, easy to talk to, and he seems non-judgmental, all qualities she values]

I would love to, as soon as this wretched weather comes to and end and you get yourself settle back in.

[requiemshark]

Sure. I could use something fun, [ Ephemera admits. Something that doesn't way so heavily on his head. Getting drinks with good company fits the bill just fine. ] You ever had tequila?

[roseofthetyrells]

Then I'll do my best to be fun. [but she gets the feeling that she won't always have to be with Ephemera, which is nice for a woman who was raised to be pleasing at all times] No, I can't say that I have.

[requiemshark]

Then it'll be...what'd they call it? A learning experience. [ Ephemera grins. Tequila is his favorite. He's been told he has no taste. ]

I like those. [a pause] What is tequila?

[requiemshark]

Alcohol. Really strong alcohol.

[ Otherwise known as the best thing in the world. ]

Then I'll have to try it with you and Drake. I must confess, though, I've never had anything stronger than wine.

[so this will be an adventure]

[ Ephemera's one good eyebrow goes up. ]

Well, this'll definitely be interesting. Drake can probably make you something a little milder, if you want. He's good at that stuff.

Perhaps milder would be best? At least to start off with. [she's also never been drunk before. grandmother discouraged such things and even if she hadn't, watching Cersei Lannister drink and drink herself into oblivion would've put her off]

Probably, [ Ephemera agrees. ] The hangover will kick your ass if you're not ready for it. Believe me, I know. We drank a lot in the military.

[roseofthetyrells]

People drank a lot in King's Landing, too. [she says wryly] I've never had a hangover, but after observing my goodmother I can't say that I would like to have one.
