Have you ever looked through someone else's eyes? Heard through their ears, spoken with their tongue? The gods have tried to teach some of you empathy, but it's time you learned the hard way, exactly what the others here have been through. For a week, every time you brush skin to skin with someone, you'll experience a memory of theirs: happy, sad, it doesn't matter. All that matters is that it feels real to you.
The first touch may come as a surprise- it lasts only for a split second but may feel like an eternity, where you're trapped in someone else's memory. After that, it could be more expected, and some may even figure out how to control it and share specific scenes from their past with others. Or, you might wear gloves and long sleeve shirts for awhile, nobody's judging.
Maybe curtail the handholding for awhile- or go right ahead, if that's your thing. After all, you never really know somebody unless you've walked a mile in their shoes, right?► This log covers November 14th-20th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you die in a memory, you don't die in real life, but if you do die in real life please let us know here.
Kain Highwind | OTA
[ooc: pick a memory, any memory and I'll elaborate further!]
3 please!
However, few can accuse Tyki of being a brilliant man. At least when it comes to decision making. And he gets what he deserves for not listening to that nagging voice inside that says 'stay put' when he bumps into Kain when wandering about the city.]

[As for Kain, he occasionally gets a downcast expression at times, but is overall being gentle and calming to the dragon itself.]
It's all right... we're the dragoons, and you will always be important to our order. You're important to me.

We're not expected anywhere for a while, at the moment... Shall we go for a flight?
[The dragon is more than happy to oblige, of course, growling agreement. Kain jumps into the air in a fluid motion, before settling himself upon her back. Then, they're off, soaring high into the clouds, wind whipping past them as they move fast across the sky. It's a delightful, liberating sensation for Kain, who is clearly enjoying every moment of this.]
[The memory fades out as they're mid-flight, the blue sky gradually returning back to the present world.]

There are no dragons in his home world. And he's glad, honestly. Such a beautiful creature would be used in the war, and he'd hate to see something so amazing exploited.
He's not sure what to say to Kain at all. Or if Kain even knows what happened. So he's silent for a moment, ready to simply head on if there's no need for words.] Excuse me, I was careless.

[The return to reality is quite shocking, but even more so is the fact that someone else is here with him. He hadn't realized... and now he's wondering just what really happened.]
Did you...? [Kain clears his throat as he tries to steady himself.] You caused that somehow? You saw it?

The gods, I assume? It seems like their style of meddling, though this one is... less terrible than a lot of the other things they've done.
LATE SORRY also I changed my mind, 1 please!!
Sir Ka--oh!
NO PROBLEM!!! it totally works too, behold some of Kain's issues
[This is it. Today, right now, is when he will declare his love for her.]
Rosa...
[He says her name in a whisper, then steadies his nerves. But then someone else enters the garden, a silver haired man walking right toward Rosa. The other man, Cecil, hasn't noticed Kain, who stays where he is to watch what unfolds...]
[Cecil and Rosa are talking and laughing together, both of them in high spirits. But then, as Kain watches, Cecil hands her a bouquet of roses himself. Rosa makes a delighted sound, and then the two of them embrace and kiss.]
[Kain's head lowers and then he turns away. The bouquet in his own hands falls to the ground as he drops it, deliberately stomping it into the ground. That's the point where the memory fades...]

He steps back, more out of a polite respect than being put off, but he frowns in...something like a kind pity as he looks at Kain, reality reasserting itself around them. He himself certainly isn't a newcomer to unrequited love...when you love like Ianchus does, that's inevitable. But he can imagine how it would affect a man like Kain, who's shown himself to be so shy and quiet. Gestures from those people are more meaningful, take more courage.
He doesn't say anything, just sets his lips and waits for Kain to say something.

[He belatedly realizes he's not alone, which makes him redden, turning his gaze away. That's definitely not a part of his life that he'd ever have wanted to share. Yet it's too late to take it back, one of the worst moments of his life has now been shared against his will.]
[After a long silence, he finally speaks up.]
No one was ever supposed to see that.

I apologize. I won't tell anyone. I'll pretend I didn't see anything. I promise. [He takes a moment to look back at Kain, his jaw trembling slightly--ah, he wants to tell him that it's alright, that it has no bearing on who he is, to be rejected, that Ianchus doesn't judge him for it, but who is he to say something like that?]
no subject
[It's pretty difficult having just shared it with someone else. After all, he's not the sort to wear his emotions on his sleeve. He keeps it all in, repressed. So it's really hard for him as he tries to hold it all back now. He thinks he can trust Ianchus. He doesn't seem the sort who'd use this against him.]
Good. That's... I'm trusting you on that. [He pauses, looking away, still in an odd state of needing to collect his emotions.] The gods are up to something again, apparently.
no subject
[He watches Kain closely, that tinge of sympathy still in his expression. He can imagine what he's feeling, having something like that brought back to the forefront of his mind. It's clearly something he tries to keep forgotten, as if it hasn't happened.
Ianchus is no stranger to that, either.
He considers his next words carefully.]
...I saw nothing. Of course. But, if you'd like to talk... [He lets that invitation trail off.]
no subject
I... well... Perhaps. Though I'm not even sure where to begin. It's hard to talk about...
