Have you been having trouble getting a good night's sleep? Tossing and turning, unable to rest those tired eyes? Or maybe you don't sleep at all, and never have. Not to worry! For a little while, you'll have no trouble at all falling asleep - in fact, as night falls, you'll find yourself overwhelmed with exhaustion whether you want to sleep or not. Lay down and rest your weary head, friends. Everyone could use a little extra sleep.
But what will your dreams bring? Something happy, images of a perfect day? Something hopeful, something you've wanted for a long time? Maybe you'll dream of anger, of the face of your worst enemy. Or maybe - just maybe - you'll have a horrific nightmare, and wake screaming, covered in cold sweat.
Not before others have time to see it, though. As you sleep, as you dream, the other residents of Hadriel, friends and enemies and people you've only met once, might find their way into your dreams. Or you might find your way into theirs - and then have to deal with someone's else's nightmares, or hopes, or anger. For the next ten nights, you'll find yourself either a host or a visitor, and no matter how you try you won't be able to stay awake once night falls.
Sweet dreams, Hadriel. Don't let the asshole fear gods bite.► This log covers May 16th-26th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► You can't die in the dreams, but if you somehow manage to trip and fall and kill yourself getting out of bed, please report it on the death post.

[He knows what's wrong with it--it's super ugly--but that's the appeal of it at the same time. But okay, fine, he'll entertain the idea of letting Emily pick out something more fashionable, although...]
Quick, get me a bottle of gel and I'll work on my British accent so I can pass for Draco Malfoy in that thing.
[It's a really nice coat, but he has the feeling it would look completely and utterly ridiculous on him.]
no subject
You don't deserve this coat.
[She hangs it back on the rack and turns to the one right behind her, which is full of items that are more Chris's style and colors, in better quality fabric than he's used to.]
At least pick a hoodie in a better color. [Next to the rack is a table covered in hoodies. There is even one with that stupid whale on a bike he likes so much, and much cuter ones with cheesy puns and graphics to go with them. Nerd heaven, right?] I swear I saw one earlier that says there are 10 kinds of people. You know binary, right?
[Is she being serious or sarcastic? We just don't know.]
no subject
Chris just sort of raises his eyebrows at Emily at her question, pausing in his consideration of navy blue hoodie that has an imagine of the dwarf planet Pluto with a sad face on it.]
Of course I know binary, Em, I'm not like, a second-rate nerd.
[It's actually a miracle he knows binary and it took him quite a lot of effort, since he's not at all good with languages by nature, but he managed it.]

[When she does anything even remotely nerdy, it's read manga -- and not the weeb kind.]
Hurry up, I'm gonna help you pick a nice gift for Ash.
no subject
He's selecting a few hoodies and sweaters and a pair of jeans, since he really needs more, not being too picky. Though he feels like maybe he should actually be stalling.]
We're talking a nice gift, right?
[Not anything weird?]
no subject
Of course a nice gift.
[Doesn't matter how much he tries to stal, though, because the next thing he knows, all his hoodies are in bags, and they're standing in the notebook section of a bookstore.]
You should be able to find something here.
[Emily would pick something herself, but that's not the point. It's supposed to come from him, and she'll be happy just to pay for it.]
no subject
His eyes light up a bit, both to just be in a bookstore because he likes them himself and to be in a bookstore because yes, he can get something that Ashley would like here. It's not like he has a lot of opportunity to be a good boyfriend in Hadriel, after all.]
Yeah. I think I can find something she'll like.
[He flashes a brief, bright smile of thanks at Emily, then moves to begin looking through the journals; it has to be heavy enough to feel solid but not too heavy to handle easily, the paper needs to be the right texture, the cover the right color or pattern.
Sorry Emily he might be here awhile.]
no subject
Just tell me when you're done. And for fuck's sake, get her something cute to go with whatever nerdy thing you get her.
no subject
[Cute and nerdy go together just fine. Ashley's living proof of that, after all.
It takes him some time to choose the perfect journal but he does find one; its leather cover is a deep, warm red, the pages inside textured like old paper but strong enough not to be damaged by scribbling. He thinks Ashley will really like it, and selects a laminated and metal framed bookmark printed with lines of text from one of Ashley's favorite books. Cute and nerdy at the same time.]
Done, Em!
[Wherever she is, he feels she can probably hear him just fine even though he barely raises his voice to call to her.]
no subject
Like magic, she's at the end of the aisle, holding up the credit card and a receipt.] Done. Take her somewhere nice when you give it to her, maybe. Make it, like, extra special. Or, you know, whatever. She'll probably love it even if you give it to her in one of those stupid shops, you know?
no subject
Yeah. I will. Maybe I can um, find something decent to eat too, and make it like...
[A really terrible underground hell-hole version of a date.]
no subject
[She kind of owes him for being the one to go to Delight for coffee. They could get something here, too, except...]
I wish this were real.
[She smiles as she says it, as the dream starts to fade around the edges. Chris will find he's wearing glasses again.]
no subject
[Pastries would be nice; his main intake of sugar lately has been coffee, and he vastly prefers more sugar than that.
At her next comment he's briefly puzzled, but it dawns on him as he finds his glasses on his face once more.]
Damnit. Knew it was too good to be true.
[He offers Emily a smile anyway.]
I guess that like, you'll just have to help me find a gift that actually exists, then.
no subject
[She sounds like she means it, too, even though she doesn't look at him when she says it. Still, she's smiling. Delight continues to be the best.]
It's been good, though. And yeah, like I'm gonna leave you to pick out a gift for her on your own in the lame shops in shithole city? Tch. I've got Ash's back. Yours too.
no subject
[Otherwise he brings home thing like the dreaded whale hoodie.]
And... Yeah. We're uh... We're all in this together, right?
[They're each other's best allies here, no matter how many friends they make from other worlds, and that's just as important for them all in dealing with everything that's happened and is happening as it is with just staying as safe as possible.]
no subject
She's the only one allowed to do that okay.]Duh. [She rolls her eyes, but she's still smiling.] Don't forget. We're going shopping soon. You're gonna take Ash on the best date this shithole can offer.
no subject
Hey, at least shopping in Hadriel has one thing in common with dream-shopping: you don't have to pay for anything.
[And he doesn't immediately reject the idea of letting Emily help with setting up a date, either.]
no subject
[She shrugs. Sure, there's this vague feeling of guilt that comes whenever she takes something, but it's easy to push past it.]
Anyway. Thanks for stopping by or whatever.
no subject
[Good job on that.]
