Event Log: Dreamwalker

What: The Dreamwalker event
Where: In your comfy bed and your sleepy head.
When: May 16th-26th
Warnings: Good dreams, weird dreams, bad dreams, straight-up nightmares. Please remember to tag for warnings in the header if things are going to be bad!

Have you been having trouble getting a good night's sleep? Tossing and turning, unable to rest those tired eyes? Or maybe you don't sleep at all, and never have. Not to worry! For a little while, you'll have no trouble at all falling asleep - in fact, as night falls, you'll find yourself overwhelmed with exhaustion whether you want to sleep or not. Lay down and rest your weary head, friends. Everyone could use a little extra sleep.

But what will your dreams bring? Something happy, images of a perfect day? Something hopeful, something you've wanted for a long time? Maybe you'll dream of anger, of the face of your worst enemy. Or maybe - just maybe - you'll have a horrific nightmare, and wake screaming, covered in cold sweat.

Not before others have time to see it, though. As you sleep, as you dream, the other residents of Hadriel, friends and enemies and people you've only met once, might find their way into your dreams. Or you might find your way into theirs - and then have to deal with someone's else's nightmares, or hopes, or anger. For the next ten nights, you'll find yourself either a host or a visitor, and no matter how you try you won't be able to stay awake once night falls.

Sweet dreams, Hadriel. Don't let the asshole fear gods bite.

[She looks mildly horrified at the idea of this.]

[He almost wants to laugh, but he doesn't. It could have been that, or more. He knows what happened to Noah.]

No. My... help, I guess. My agency. I sacrificed my hands and my eyes for it to use.

So it's like - what, using you as a puppet or something?

[That's still kind of horrifying.]

I still have control of myself.

[Mostly.]

I see things when it tries to communicate with me, and back home I would do things to help it - to let the power flow better, make it stronger. It doesn't force me to do anything, but it can get restless if I don't listen.

Well, shit.

[There's still a vague sense of alarm creeping up the back of her neck. The idea of something like a forest having desires is something she finds just a little unsettling.]

What does it want? Like, why does it need to be stronger?

[It definitely alarmed Adam at first, and still can worry him occasionally, but Cabeswater has become more of a comfort and a companion than something to fear. He can definitely understand the impulse, though.]

It doesn't really want anything, except to exist and continue existing. Without the power of the ley line, the forest sitting on it fades.

Guess you can't really argue with that.

[Most things want to continue existing, right? Nick thinks that's probably something true that she's heard before.]

As long as you're not like, sacrificing babies or anything for it.

[Not that she has any great love for babies ... but she does have an inkling that it's a bad thing to do.]

Not so far, anyway.

[He says, with some humor. Probably not ever. Cabeswater isn't that kind of an existence, and the ley line has no particular interest in babies.]

It doesn't usually ask me for anything I can't give.

And what if it does? Ask you for something you can't give, I mean.

We'll negotiate. I can communicate with it, and it doesn't mean me any harm.

[The opposite, really. It'll protect him, when it needs to.]

It just doesn't think like a human, that's all.
