World Log: Jungle Arrival

Who: Everyone in the city
What: The event log for the Planet Transfer
Where: All over the city
When: March 28th
Warnings: None

One minute you're freezing your ass off in the middle of a light snowstorm, and the next you're suddenly boiling in the wet heat. Sunlight streams down through green- so much green, more green than you could possibly have imagined since coming to Hadriel- and it's beautiful in its own way, if you're into that sort of thing.

The more sensitive of citizens may feel some slight nausea from the move but otherwise everything is as it should be. Alien birds squawk in the trees, you can hear the local fauna rustling through the brilliantly-colored leaves. Everything is alien here, but a forest is universal. Luckily, a section of forest has been cleared away for the city, so you can still see the sky above and you can still move around without getting lost in the thick foliage that surrounds this place, but be careful when exploring! There's no telling what could be out there, and you want to be prepared for anything.

So what is your new home like? It's hot, for one- you might want to shed and burn all those winter coats and Christmas sweaters immediately! You'll be sweating buckets before the day is over, but at least we still have cold showers to help wash off the grime as you adjust to your new life in an alien jungle. Have fun, enjoy your stay, but don't forget: we may need to fight here soon. Be ready.

► This log covers March 28th-March 30th.
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you get bitten by one of the locals, please let us know here.

( Good girl, Jo. She knew you weren't a chicken. )

Not yet. ( But, as though brought to them by the gods of fate, there's a rustling from a tree to Jo's left, on branches just below. )

... Or not.

( Kate exhales a snort, a soft shake of the head because— )

Exactly. ( Controlling powers was a difficult job back home, but here? Where they can never be sure if or when some shit is going to decide to mess with them? It's probably best to remind yourself of the human ways of doing things. )

Could have a way to neutralise them by now.

( You're not the first or, likely, the last person to think that about Kate, Luc, don't worry. )

Look up more.

( ... Kate, just because you spend half your life in the highest places you can reach doesn't mean you're supposed to just. Say that. )

It's a miracle any of us are still here.

[That they survived, and that they're still stuck. Miracles don't always have to be a good thing.]

So just try to go a little easier on yourself, okay? I don't know that you need to be forgiven, but if it makes a difference, I forgive you.

( Um. W-well. That's... Did he say that? Honestly, Steak can't quite tell any more. He just explained a Food Soul, didn't he? )

Red Wine? ( Ugh, well, if nothing else, he can admit that much. ) We-We're both Food Souls, yes.

Mm.

[It's something he's thought of, too - that is, just what kind of a space they might be able to defend, here. The idea always seems to be to gather everyone vulnerable into one place where they might be protected, but while Ignis sees the benefit in that... he sees the many faults in it, too, and how many deaths might be caused by a breach in those defences.

So much to think about. So many lives that need to be protected...

Ignis sighs, and he catches hold of Kate's hand despite the heat. To hell with the heat.
]

I've noted some mentioning the coliseum as a possibility. I'm not sure how wise it might be, given its proximity to the Door... but that might work in its favour.
sciencelizard: (« [Worry] oh jeez rick i dunno abt this)

[personal profile] sciencelizard 2019-05-08 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
[She nods, a shallow little thing of acknowledgement.]

Heh. Yeah. I can't imagine, really, all of it... working out like that, so easily. I don't know. Maybe sometimes there is one though. I... w-want to believe that. Really.
sciencelizard: (« [Embarrassed] BAWWWWWWWW)

[personal profile] sciencelizard 2019-05-08 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Ohmygosh y-you don't have to do that, really, I don't want to be a burden.

[She can't super protest though, not when her mind is already leaping through stuff she has to do.]

I'll c-- text you! I'll text you. Okay?

( The new borders of the city are dense with trees and life in a way that's a million miles from anything they've been in before, and it's a relief after all the bare, dead expanses of land. Not so much from a safety point of view, but simply diversity, simply feeling like there's actually something to explore, that something might just be hidden beyond the trees and vines.

Ignis' hand wraps around hers and Kate takes the opportunity to tug him to a sharp right, where the trees are thicker and the potential paths more narrow. The kind of path that could easily be overlooked.

That, hopefully, would be, should the worst happen.
)

It protects itself. ( So... Maybe. The Null have shown themselves to be weak to the Gods' abilities, and the Door is stronger still. ) It could protect us.

( Theoretically... Could it be made to consider the residents of the city safe or... She doesn't know. It certainly has the power to be used against The Null, but how would they avoid it affecting the people here, too? )

Because that's just our bad luck. [and much of George's life (and afterlife) has been spent bouncing from one run of bad luck to another, so she sees no reason why the trend shouldn't continue]

How d'you think we coulda done that?
madamdirector: <user name=soledadcatalina site=tumblr.com> (pic#13127835)

[personal profile] madamdirector 2019-05-08 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
No. We aren't.

[ Much as it feels that way, sometimes. Lucretia smiles at Aqua's determination, tilting her head to the side. ]

What have you come up with?
outofthefire: (I don't even have to fake it now)

[personal profile] outofthefire 2019-05-08 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess. I mean, how many times have they brought in monsters that could kill us?

[she honestly doesn't mind being stuck here. she's found more real friends here than anywhere else.

and when Elena says she forgives her, Laura lets out a breath she didn't know she was holding]
Okay. Good. Great. Thank you. [a pause] Is it okay if I hug you?
toiletseat_girl: (is that all there is?)

[personal profile] toiletseat_girl 2019-05-08 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, we went through all that shit to fix the Door? There's gotta be some kind of payoff for that.
unphase: (past the mission I smell the roses)

[personal profile] unphase 2019-05-08 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not a burden! I can do it, easy.

[phasing comes in really handy sometimes, especially when she can phase smallish objects to go with her]

I'm looking forward to it!
knifecollecting: (I'm Alright)

[personal profile] knifecollecting 2019-05-09 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Sometimes.

Jo manages to dodge the elbow with a laugh.]

Then you are always mad.
knifecollecting: (I'm just a regular Jo)

[personal profile] knifecollecting 2019-05-09 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh- She can do this. She had high school science.]

They're really strong beams of light. Lasers can cut through almost everything.
knifecollecting: (I don't care what you think)

[personal profile] knifecollecting 2019-05-09 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Jo backs up to give Lucretia space when she stands, and-

She wasn't expecting a demonstration. The other woman had been friendly, but Jo won't make her work extra.]

You don't have to. I've seen some spells like that.
nonscriptum: don't ask me what they are I'm not a wizard (you know there are worse things?)

[personal profile] nonscriptum 2019-05-09 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Ancient city in the middle of the world's largest contiguous desert? Yes. Floating city? No.

[ From this very limited description, however, it sounds like a place he might like to visit. It is difficult to quell the adrenaline junkie craving. For a guy who's fallen out of airplanes multiple times, Nate hasn't really learned from the experience.

He holds a long branch back for her.
]

Is immortality normal where you come from?
sciencelizard: (« [Flattered] w-who--what--me???)

[personal profile] sciencelizard 2019-05-09 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Someone saying it like that, so plainly, seems incredible to her. She's about to reply that she couldn't imagine doing something like that, but Alphys has to stop herself, because... she has. She has done things like that. She's seen how gorgeous the pools around the gods' temples were in the desert, she's felt the ocean breeze on her skin, she's seen the lights in the sky under the snow. She's been there. She's seen something.

It's a surreal experience, and not one she knows how to really speak about, nodding a little as she listens and tries to put all this together.]

I... I guess I've seen some worlds too. Just being here. I mean, I didn't go alone, the w-whole city came with us, and we didn't really have a choice, but... it was amazing. There's been scary stuff and aliens and all kinds of things we uhm, we couldn't control, but... h-heh. That's probably not what you were talking about.

[How could she compare herself to someone amazing like her, like a real hero? Alphys is just surviving. There's a difference, somewhere, she's sure of it.]
caeruleae: (♒ | to pause and consider)

[personal profile] caeruleae 2019-05-09 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Not a lot. I wish there was more. But...

[She hesitates, unsure how to explain.]

The power I have to wield a Keyblade, it can be passed on, and it can be a great light in the darkness. More wielders could help us. But it's an important responsibility—I don't know if I should ask someone to bear that burden.

[Elena's not at all sure the monsters are really there to kill instead of harass and test, but it's not a debate worth getting into now.]

Yeah. It'd be okay.
toiletseat_girl: (hello hello hello how do I reach you?)

[personal profile] toiletseat_girl 2019-05-10 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
[usually!

George pouts for a moment, then crosses her arms over her chest]

I am not.

[very mature retort, George]
theladyofhighever: (time after time I think it's just no goo)

[personal profile] theladyofhighever 2019-05-10 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
[sorry, she comes from a planet which has just recently discovered gunpowder and it's a jealously guarded secret of the Qunari]

Oh. [her brow furrows slightly] And all of the Null have these lasers?
originallutece: but at least i look gorgeous as hell (talk; on my way to a funeral)

[personal profile] originallutece 2019-05-10 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
It had been six months already, and I--

That was six months more than I was supposed to spend there.

[A day. Maybe two. Even that seems hideously long when one realizes how quickly Robert ought to be able to get to her. Six months might as well be six years, six decades-- and who's to say it wouldn't have stretched out that long? Better to act now, while she still had her youth and her wits, than delay and regret it.

Absently, her tongue slides over a fang.]

Besides, Newt . . . that wasn't the first time in my life I've died. Nor was it the first time I'd been made immortal. Frankly, becoming a vampire is a downgrade from what I used to be.

But this isn't about me, Newt. This is about you and your death.
originallutece: when you've already got freckles but what the hell (robert; the umbrella's useless)

[personal profile] originallutece 2019-05-10 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yes.

[Simply. Yes, it really was that simple, because her intelligence is staggering sometimes. Although-- a beat, and she huffs a laugh.]

Well. I had some help. But he, ah . . .

[Hm. Why not.]

He was me. Is me. Another version of me. So in a way, no, not all on my own, but in another way . . . yes, very much so.
