There's a secret burning in your chest. It's hot behind your ribcage, and you need to let it out or else it might consume you- but who would you tell? Who could even begin to understand what you need to say? Your closest friend? Your significant other? Maybe even someone you don't get along with very well? It's hard to know who to trust and who will even understand, but in a strange way, neither of those things seem to matter- all you can think of is what will cause someone the most pain.

Maybe you're trying to get it out in the open so you can put it behind you. Maybe you just need to come clean because the guilt is eating you alive. Maybe you just really want to hurt someone- regardless of the reason, you're aching to tell someone else your darkest secrets.

Will they understand? There's only one way to find out, and it won't be pleasant for either party involved. Good luck, Hadriel!

[That gets her attention. Most people talk a lot about how they're either going home or somewhere else. They know.]

What do you mean?

[she looks down at the top of the bar]

...it means I'm pretty sure I'm dead.

[knifecollecting]

[Jo's heart sinks. The news isn't necessarily the cause, rather the news coming from someone so young.

She feels like her death was too early. There are so many teens without a future here...]

I'm sorry. But you're not sure?

[unphase]

[she's only fifteen. it's not fair. it's not right. it happened anyway]

I--I felt a flash of heat. Followed by pain. Then I woke up here.

[knifecollecting]

An explosion?

[Jo has, over her time here, been grateful she passed out from blood loss before the bomb went off. She can't imagine what her mother must have felt.

She swallows that train of thought and clears her throat.]

Or someone's power?

[unphase]

...someone's power. Daxamites have heat vision under a yellow sun. It can go up to five hundred degrees Celsius.

[she looks down and fights back tears]

[knifecollecting]

[Jo mutters a curse under her breath. That's really hot.]

I'm definitely dead back home. [There was a time when she was more reluctant to tell people, but especially right now it's easy.]

[unphase]

--you. You are? I'm so sorry. [she's still fighting back tears]

[knifecollecting]

[Oh, Jo was hoping to be a bit of a distraction. That didn't seem to work.]

Not knowing for sure means there's a chance you're wrong.

[unphase]

[sorry, she's just a little overwhelmed right now]

Maybe. I guess. It's--it's just that all I remember before coming here was pain.

[knifecollecting]

[Jo usually doesn't reach across the counter when she's bartending, or touch strangers except in an emergency, but she reaches out to put her hand on Tinya's shoulder gently.]

I'm not going to lie. That sucks.

[unphase]

[when Jo touches her shoulder, that's when Tinya loses the battle against crying. tears slowly slip down her cheeks]

It--it does. And I'm just--so scared about what might happen next. Because I'm the daughter of Bgztl and mother will stop at nothing to make the Legion pay for what happened to me.

[knifecollecting]

[Jo doesn't really know how to counter all of that. The little she knows about Tinya's mother makes her believe that statement.]

Technically nothing happened yet. I know that doesn't help. [She laughs weakly.]

Was there anyone with you who'd have powers that could stop it?

[unphase]

[and her mother has both the power and influence to see things through]

Not--not really.

My boyfriend. He had to have had invulnerability on. But it all happened so fast, I don't think there's anything he could've done.

[knifecollecting]

[She understands what Tinya is feeling, a little. Every death is a bunch of things that went wrong, and if one thing was different...]

He would've done whatever he could.

[unphase]

[she and Jo thought they'd beat the White Triangle member, they thought they were safe. they weren't]

Yes. He would have. Because he loved me.

[knifecollecting]

You're saying that in past tense.

[Jo doesn't like that much.]

[unphase]

Y-yeah. Because I'm dead and I'm gone. From his world. Not from this one.

[knifecollecting]

You're willing to give it up? [Jo is intrigued.

If she had been pulled from before she decided to make the bomb, would she make the same decision? She doesn't know.]

[unphase]

[she sighs] It's not about whether or not I'm willing. It's about whether or not I have a choice. And I don't think I do.

[surely all that would've been left of her would've been cinders and a bit of bone]

You'll go somewhere else?

[Jo is trying to make these decisions herself. She can understand the difficulty.]

I don't have much of a choice.

[a lot of it will depend on where Will wants to go, but she trusts him to choose something suitable for the both of them]

It does. I've always known what I wanted to do before. Not knowing is. Frustrating.
