Who: Cecily, Kate, Alphys, Ignis, Jo, and Lucretia
What: Trying to formulate a plan to get the Door working for good...in some capacity.
Where: Lucretia's house
When: 4/2
Warnings: n/a
Well, what do we do now?
[ The Inquisitor plants a hand on her hip, raising her brows to look expectantly around at the group. ]
I think a start would be to decide whether or not we're trying to destroy the Null, or to...not do that. [ She continues, gaze drifting to Alphys, after which she offers a faint, somehow apologetic smile. ] Does anyone have any thoughts about that particular issue?

Still. Someone's got to start. Lucretia clears her throat, expression serious. ]
I think we can't rule out the option.
They've shown they're willing to kill, haven't they? That they want to kill. Holding ourselves to standards they won't -
[ She stops, shaking her head. ]
I - don't like it any more than anyone else, and of course if there is another alternative, we should certainly pursue it. But if there isn't...
[ She trails off, glancing quickly at Cecily, then the others. ]
no subject
[ Cecily sighs, furrowing her brow as she stares downward, considering. ]
I'm not opposed to trying to reason with them, but I'm not so sure that I would put others in harm's way to try it.
no subject
I, uhm... I don't want to k-kill them. But they won't talk to us, uhm, normally. Last time I tried, they uh... put me on a death list? Sort of? I guess it wasn't sort of, it uhm, it happened, but.
[She fidgets with her claws scraping quietly at her chest.]
We can't just let an entire race die... right?
no subject
( Not that she needs to tell the majority of this group. Maybe Lucretia, but the others have been here long enough to remember the Null's idea of communication. Kate perches on the edge of a chest of drawers, echoes of a conversation with Hope surfacing in her mind.
Pragmatically, there's not a lot of options, unless someone comes up with a creative idea. )
Hope doesn't want them dead. ( Of course, he also said he doesn't have the kind of nature that wants anyone dead, as has been proven time and time again over Kate's stay in Hadriel. ) But he doesn't think we've got other options.
( Well. There was one... )
Kill them or escape them.
( And they've been doing that for years. Running. Where the hell else can they go? )
no subject
She isn't against wiping them out if there's hope that the robots can be 'converted', but if they remain dedicated to eliminating the gods, Jo will vote for eliminating the Null.]
How do we escape? They always seem to show up again. At this point, I think it's down to which side will end up dead.
I'm voting for the Null.

...I don't mind trying to save them if we can, I really don't. I just worry we won't have the opportunity, not even a chance of it, and we'll sacrifice those we've promised to protect.
[ Maker knows, she's tried to save lives when she could, no matter who they were. As she's learned time and time again, though...you can't save everyone. Sometimes, choices must be made.
She smiles faintly at Alphys, jaw set tight. ]
But I do swear that I'll...explore all the options. Find out of it's even faintly possible.
no subject
I just-- I know, they're dangerous and not, uhm, n-not good at talking or even like they want to, but... they still exist. There might-- you know, like how when Name started feeling things and felt bad and didn't want to fight anymore. Maybe we can find a way to stop this without, just... k-killing everything. Maybe.
no subject
[ Lucretia murmurs the word to herself, but she's frowning as she does it, looking more defeated than hopeful.
She shakes herself off, giving Alphys an encouraging smile. ]
Let's explore our other options, then.
What's happened when we have tried talking to them? Has there been any success at all?
no subject
It puts her stomach in knots. Is practicality worth that? Worth becoming the kind of person Rage reminded her she could be? )
Just Name. ( Hm... ) Could try to infect the rest of the Null.
( Don't ask her how they'd do that, though. It took time for Name to become infected, and they don't really... have time for that. )
no subject
[ Alphys certainly trusts their one Null 'ally,' but will it side with them when it matters the most? ]
no subject
And how long would it take, if it were possible. To...we're talking about infecting an entire race, right? With...with feelings?
no subject
Well, I don't know, it's-- t-that kind of implies we know how Name got emotions in the first place?
[Because she doesn't. She like, super doesn't.]
It hasn't been safe to ever really interact with their, uhm, code. I have a lot of experience with their hardware, but the s-software is still, uh, kind of a mystery...
[Alphys sighs, finally looking back up at the group.]
I don't even know if it's what they'd want. I'm pretty sure they made themselves inorganic to make sure they, uh, d-didn't get feelings. But is it worse than... I don't know.
no subject
... It doesn't, of course. )
Think we'd even have the time?
( It was a half-cocked idea in the first place, a slim sliver of a hope that they could somehow sort this all out with one well-placed contagion, but the pressure of everything that happened in the transfer — Delight's death and the effects thereof — makes time feel so much shorter. What time do they really have? )
no subject
[ Maybe if people were more or less sacrificed to fight with the Null and to slow them down while the plan to spread an infection began, but...
The Inquisitor is very quiet, nails biting into the palm of her hand. ]
Whatever our plan, there will be...casualties. The Null are too strong for us to think otherwise.
no subject
As I understand it, Hope is the one who...well, he's the reason death doesn't really stick here.
If something were to happen to him during the battle...
[ She knows what had happened to Delight. Whether the "gods" are really gods or not, they're not unkillable. ]
no subject
(Yes, she thinks. Yes. Because it wouldn't be her, and she doesn't like the kind of person that makes her.)]
Well, uh, last time the Null came in, Sorrow uh... died. To s-stop that from happening, actually. They were trying to kill Hope so he couldn't bring anyone else back. No matter what happens, we can't let them kill Hope, or... well, a lot is uhm. Unfixable, I guess.
[But that still doesn't help, really.]
Okay, so... what are the things we want to uhm, investigate? M-Maybe we can make a list and ask Hope?
no subject
But that's war, isn't it? )
If it's realistic to infect the Null in the time we have. ( That's what it boils down to, at the end of it all. If such a thing is realistic, feasible for them to manage. If doing so would even allow the virus to pass through the population of Null in time to save the city. ) I can ask Sorrow about The Door.
no subject
[ She makes a show of sighing, but there's definitive resignation in her expression. Kate has connections with the Door, with Sorrow. Lucretia has obvious magical talent and seems wise enough to inspire others with leadership. Alphys is close to Name, can manage each and every 'technical' aspect of their possible mission on her own.
The Inquisitor? Well. She can do what she can do. ]
We've got a better sense of what we need to do now though, I think. At least a little.
no subject
[ What good is all her magic, if she can't do that?
Lucretia glances between the others, expression sober. ]
What else? Is there anything else we need to ask Hope?
no subject
Okay, me, look into Null p-programming. Kate, Sorrow and the Door. Cecily, protecting Hope. Lucretia, we're going to need people uhm, fighting some of the Null anyway, like-- keeping people safe who can't fight while we do whatever we have to. Would that work?
[Alphys is looking up and down from her phone, still note taking.]
We can also investigate the i-inter-dimensional properties of the Door, too? Not that I think it would be safe to just uh, put them somewhere else, because that could just kill them anyway but uh. M-Maybe?? Someone said it earlier. Does that uh, go under Door stuff?
no subject
Aye. ( She can talk to Sorrow about it, but more importantly— ) Not my area. I'll talk to Newt.
( She's pretty sure he'd enjoy something like this. )
no subject
[ Really, she's here to give 110% to this cause. ]
And, agreed: Newt would be a good resource for all that.
no subject
Of course. I can help with defense. And offense, too, if necessary.
...I might also be able to offer some insight on the Door's...interdimensional properties? At least... [ She shrugs, a little helplessly. ] I don't know if that's anything like the interplanar system. But I can take a look.
no subject
Okay! Cool, uhm, we c-can look into all that, and I think there's stuff to work with here.
[She's hesitant to be hopeful about anything for an oncoming war, especially under the circumstances, but she wants to try. She has to try.]
Is everyone, uh... is that good? For now? At least it's something to work on...
no subject
[ Cecily sighs, tapping a finger against her leg as she trails off. ]
...Anyway, we can meet again - soon, I think? See what our next steps should be, and how best to bring this to the attention of the others?
