Event Log: Null Attack

What: The event log for the Null Attack event

What starts as a normal day will begin to herald in the beginning of the end. On May 29th, you might see something in the sky out of the corner of your eye- blink and you miss it, but there's definitely something there, something that's not any kind of animal you've ever seen. Now that you know to look, you may be paying closer attention to the sky in order to catch the next one that flies past- a ship. A ship that that seems to be designed in a way that might remind you of the Null themselves.

As the days pass, it becomes unmistakable- the Null are here and are scouting out the area. It's time to prepare for an immediate attack and start putting all those contingency plans to good use. Will you gear up for a fight and fall into formation? Will you close and lock your doors and stay inside? Or perhaps there's some other plan that you want to enact?

You'll have time to discuss that on the network later, but now you need to start reacting to the Null's actions- which are apparently to start building smaller encampments around the city as they try to find the way inside. Confusion is holding them at bay for now but it might be time to start building some defensive measures and fortifications, because she won't be able to keep them at bay forever.

When they break in, they do so in a big way- with a massive explosion at Confusion's temple that rattles throughout the entire city. It's obvious that something has happened- and what exactly that something is reveals itself shortly when Null begin to flood the city, having broken through Confusion's protection.

This is when the fight escalates to an all-out war. Nobody is spared, and they're watching everyone from above. What will you do? How will you keep the ones you love safe? How can anyone survive this? All you can do is fight back, all we can do is wait. Good luck, Hadriel.

[she'll be fiiiiiiine. and in a moment, she phases, then flies down towards the incoming mass of Null, yelling at them]

Hey! Hey! Come and get me, if you can!

[she makes a big show of dodging their attacks, not wanting them to know that they can't hurt her, and starts leading them towards one of the larger traps.

she looks back to see if Pratt's following them]

[He has his gun trained on them, firing a few shots here and there to keep stragglers in line. They've noticed he's in the tower but they're going for Tinya who appears to be the easier target and will deal with Pratt later.

He almost smiles as she leads them right into a trap. That actually feels good. To watch them get webbed up and trapped. Like he finally had a purpose and a reason for being here - actually helping for once.]

[unphase]

[she looks back behind her and giggles as she watches the pursuing Null get caught up in the trap and rendered useless.

and she grins at Pratt as he comes alongside her]

Thank you. You're not doing to bad yourself. [she gives him a wicked grin] Wanna find another bunch of Null to turn into suckers?

Big ass guns are always a help.

[But he's smiling a little.]

Yeah. Let's go do some damage. The more of them we can get rid of the better. There's so fucking many of these things.

[unphase]

[she hovers just above the ground, clasps her hands behind her back, and sways in place a bit]

We'll take 'em out. Together. 'Cause we make a pretty good team.

[theweakhavepurpose]

I'm just some guy with a gun. You're the one who can turn all ghostly and not get shot by them.

But yeah, we're not doing too bad.

[unphase]

Yeah, I can. [a pause] Do you think I should stop?

[because she feels guilty that she has an easy out from getting wounded that nobody else has]

What? No! Why would you do that? If you've got an advantage use it. Don't bring yourself down to our level.

[unphase]

[she bites her lower lip before speaking] I don't know. It's just that I have this power which lets me get out of consequences free while the rest of you are out there risking your lives.

[theweakhavepurpose]

So what, you should let them get a few hits in so it's fair? Fuck that. It's an advantage. Use it.

[unphase]

I guess. . . [she still doesn't sound convinced] I'm just so worried about everyone else.

[theweakhavepurpose]

Don't think about it like that. Just focus on what you're doing. Everyone else knows this is a war. And we won't be able to save them all.

[unphase]

[after a long pause and in a small voice] But what if I want to save them all?

[theweakhavepurpose]

I think everyone does. And it sucks but... I don't think that's possible. Not in this situation.

[unphase]

[she rakes a hand through her hair] ...I know. And I know that anyone who--who dies will be brought back to life. But it'll still hurt.

[theweakhavepurpose]

I haven't died, not here anyway and I don't think I'm dead back home, so I dunno what it feels like. And no one wants to experience that.

But you're only one person, don't put it all on you to protect the whole town. We're all in this together.

[unphase]

[heartfelt] You'd better not die. Here, or anywhere else.

[blushes faintly] I know. I just feel--responsible.

[theweakhavepurpose]

Everyone dies eventually.

[unphase]

Eventually. As in when you're one hundred years old and surrounded by those who love you. Not until.

[theweakhavepurpose]

Surrounded by my dogs huh?

Sounds like a nice way to go.

[unphase]

By your dogs and by people who love you. And it would be.

[theweakhavepurpose]

Okay lets not get carried away here. Dogs first. Then we'll see if I can develop enough social skills for people.

[unphase]

[she reaches over in an attempt to squeeze his hand]

You will. You'll get there. People who aren't me will see what there is to love about you.

You're awfully optimistic about this.

[But he smiles, because it's exactly what he needs to hear.]

[she smiles back warmly]

I'm optimistic about you. Always have been.
