What: The event log for the Null attack
Where: All over the city (and possibly outside)
When: June 15th
Warnings: None
The battle has been going on for awhile now, but this is when things really begin to kick into overdrive. The Null's primary target is the Door, but their secondary targets are all the god temples - particularly Hope's. It's time to fight, because if you don't, everything is going to end here and now.
Whether you're defending the Door, defending a temple, or finding some other way to fight or offer support to the fighters, you'd better be ready to go all out. The Null certainly are. Their forces seem almost infinite, especially with the way they can drag the remains of Null bodies from the field and repair and reanimate them. But then, that's true for you, too, as Hope flickers around each battlefield throughout the city resurrecting people nearly the moment they fall.
All the gods are fighting at your side. Some will fall, sending currents of emotion through the warriors on both sides, while others will fight on. It may seem like this battle will last forever, but there is an end - when the Null all begin to crumple, the life going out of them, signaling that the killswitch has been activated.
Then it's just you, and the living injured, and the city in ruins. But you've won, no matter what the cost!► This log covers June 15th
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► All deaths will be resurrected near-instantly, though after awhile things may begin going wrong...
lup l open
[It's the end of the world - again - and Lup's pretty fucking done with it.
The first time the Null came crashing into the city, the elf had spent most of the fight dancing around the battlefield with flame at her fingertips, dodging their attacks with a laugh, brushing off the very real danger in front of her and telling anyone who would listen it was all just fine.
- Until her brother ended up on the wrong side of a Null's jagged arm, the twisted metal pierced right through his front, impaling him completely. Nothing about that fight had felt just fine after that.
So this time around, Lup's carefree spirit isn't quite so obvious, her brows pinched in single-minded determination, ears perked up and her attention set to everywhere all at once. The woman's already made the promise that no one was going to go down this time around and she meant it wholeheartedly. She's going to do her damn best to keep the people she loves from getting taken out this time.
During most of the fight, she can be found near the Door, defending it with what magic of hers actually works against the Null, not even hesitating before throwing herself in front of an attacking automaton for someone nearby. This is the last chance they have to make this right and go home.]
ii. everywhere else - a finder with the fever for the fame;
[When things seem momentarily taken care of on team Door Defense, Lup's popping in all over the city to make sure her friends are safe in their own tasks. Thanks to her powers, it doesn't take much effort at all to open a portal and step out somewhere else, like Hope's Temple or deep in the jungle proper, just to see if her magical expertise might be needed elsewhere for the moment.
It doesn't matter what you're doing - preparing a trap for the Null, taking a much needed break, or already in mid-combat - there's the sound of a portal ripping open nearby and then a familiar blonde head popping out of it.]
This a bad time?

i Null Battle Part Two, Electric Boogaloo
[He's been keeping Lup in his line of sight while he's been turning Null into scrap metal, just in case. Last time the Null came around, she'd gotten herself into a tight spot and he'd had to bail her out-- sure, at the cost of liquifying his own dumbass brain, but whatever. Point is, he needed to be around to make sure that he could toss her out of any other sticky situation she got herself in.]
[Y'know, like when she starts going for some big old Null that's kind of out of her weight class.]
[Gren grabs her by the back of the shirt.]
The fuck you think you're doing?

Lup's aware that Gren is nearby - he's a little hard to miss in this form - but she's so single-mindedly focused on kicking ass, that she doesn't even see him when he sweeps in with a speed a being his size has no right having, plucking the woman right off of her feet just as sparks were beginning to crackle at her fingertips. The magic at her hands dissipates in an instant, just as quick as both of her long ears pin back in surprise. The Null she'd been aiming for is lumbering around ahead of them, absolutely towering in comparison to the elf. Definitely not a fair fight at a glance.
Her chin tips up, the woman almost comically throwing her head back to see just who's responsible for holding her back, and it's hard to find the glare she aims at him very intimidating from this angle.]
Uuuuuh - Murdering robots? The better q is what are you doin'? I was just about to make scrap metal outta that big one.

[Lup, please, let him be the tank. She might not be able to die but she's also made out of toothpicks and nice hair, she looks like she could take half of a good hit from one of those big fuckers and still get turned into mincemeat. Just because she can turn into a boogity doesn't mean that she should.]
Jesus, let me go at it. While I got it busy, then fuckin' bust its bitch ass. That's like, fuckin' tactics or whatever.
[Your tank goes and tangoes with the other tank, and DPS goes to town on their ass while they're distracted. That's how strategy works or whatever, he doesn't know. He just really doesn't want Lup to run in like a dumb asshole and end up a skeleton ghost.]
no subject
Ugh, fine! For your info, I could totally take their ass down, magic or no - [Sounds real fake, Lup, but keep believing that.] But if me throwing myself around is gonna be that much of a distraction, I'll let you play tank. Just no more dying, Gren, or I'll murder you for real! I like your dumb head right where it is.
[Going full DPS just makes sense. Wizards were never meant to tank.]
I mean it. Don't be dumb. Can't lose your ass again.
no subject
Yeah, yeah, fuckin' whatever. It ain't like this is our first rodeo. Just watch out for those little fuckers with the death toasters.
[That stupid little device that was totally cheating that he got hit with last time. Gren had his brain liquified once, he doesn't want to experience Brain Fuckery Part 2: Electric Boogaloo.]
[And now, it's time for a big lumpy murderpotato to do what he does best-- grapple a big motherfucker.]
no subject
[Gren leaps into the fray to keep Lup safe, grappling with a strength the elf can only imagine, just as she moves to skitter out of the way so she doesn't get trampled over. But not before Lup casts fire shield on Gren, upping his fire resistance and giving him a little more edge in battle. Any physical contact made with the enemy has a chance of setting them aflame.
Get fucked, bots.]
Watch out, Gren! He looks like he's firin' his laser!
i.
she has a quiver stuffed full of arrows and she's at the Door, determined to not fall a second time, feeling confident in the presence of her friend. she stands back to back with Lup, shooting arrows at approaching Null with brutal efficiency.
she has something of a taste of it, what it will be like in Thedas working to stop the Dread Wolf, and it doesn't scare her. all it does is fill her with a determination to succeed. but that's later.
this is now. and with one of her very best friends at her back, she can't fail]

Laura lets loose arrow after arrow, finding her mark with her skillful expertise, just as Lup beside her is spinning magic from thin air, channeling all of her best spells into destroying the Null one last time, into taking out Hadriel's last threat. This deep into the battle, there's a bit of manic frenzy in the air, a growl in the elf's tone, not nearly as lighthearted as she'd been earlier in the fight.]
How you doin' back there? Good on arrows?
no subject
and Laura's stripped of the arrogance of an easy victory she had at first. she knows that this is serious and she doesn't want to fail her friends. and she's not. she learned the likeliest locations of the cores and she's firing her arrows into them with brutal efficiency.
she gives a savage grin at Lup at her question]
Doin' great, but I could always use more arrows.
no subject
Can't help ya much there, but we can keep out an eye for more ammo. Just lemme when ya need a break. I can cover. No sweat.
[Fire may not have the same effect, but electricity always seems to hit these fucks right in the sweet spot. With an air of cracking magic at her knuckles, the woman casts chain lightning, an electrical bolt of energy hitting the first of the Null looming before them, before that arching magic leaps to the next, and then one more, shocking them all with enough force to explode their processors.]
no subject
Okay. Damnit, I should've brought a bag with even more arrows. Now I think of that. But, thanks. I really appreciate it.
[and her eyes widen at the chain lightning spell. now that was badass]
How'd you do that?
another i bites the dust
There's not nearly enough of them, honestly, all cracks and slivers she has to force her blades into, but it's all she's got.
A flash of blonde hair catches her attention as she shoves a Null corpse off her knives and jumps back, a glint of metal just behind the familiar form of a friend. )
Behind you—!
( Ah, hell, no time. She flings a knife just behind Lup's head, aiming for the Null and causing little more than a far too agile dodge.
She hates these things. )

Lup is already ducking the moment that Kate's warning is shouted her way, the knife whizzing expertly by her head with the elf barely even fazed with how close it comes by. Not after two years of fighting alongside Kate, this is just how the two work. It's why they fit together so damn well.]
Right back at ya!
[Kate focuses to protect Lup, so naturally the elven woman rushes forward to do the same. Direct offensive magic may not work against the newly reinforced automatons, but that doesn't mean all of her magic is suddenly useless. Ice and fire may be stunted, but shocking the fucks to death still works just fine. She casts lightning bolt and zaps the main processor of the unit approaching Kate, overloading it until it bursts.]
