For once, the new arrivals to Hadriel will not be waking up on the cold hard ground of the colosseum. Oh, sure, you'll still awaken in the arena - but this time the Door has been kind enough to ensure that you wake up comfortably arranged in a very nice chair. Or maybe not so comfortably. Some of those look pretty awkward - hopefully you didn't wake up with a crick in your neck! And hey, feel free to try to drag some of these super cool chairs to your new homes. They're probably not cursed or anything.
As you make your way out of the arena, be careful getting to close to the walls - well, except that's the only way out, so good luck! Chilling up on there waiting to get the drop on you are Skulltulas. These funky-looking spiders have squishy underbellies, but their upper exoskeletons are hard and very difficult to break through. They really just want to nibble you a few times, and maybe suck out all of your blood. No big deal, right? Have fun!
Have you conquered your arachnophobia and managed to escape? Great! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers June 10th-15th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

She's armed to the teeth, per usual: even outside the caves Hadriel has proven itself treacherous. Today Lilith is pleased to find it particularly comes in handy.
Spiders in the coliseum. Bulbous, scuttling, ugly bastards; she's never liked them much and never will. Though they aren't quite the spiderants she remembers from Pandora. Those all spent their times in or on the ground-- much, much less prone to perching themselves on heights. And they were bigger than these.
Hermann is on the ground, brandishing a cane at a giant spider. She barely takes note of him as she's striding past, yards away: it's the skulltula that catches her attention when it leaps to the ground, rather, and she's got her sniper rifle on her shoulder and her eye peering through the scope in seconds flat. The principle should be the same, even if they're not quite spiderants: vulnerable underbelly, tough everything else.
Lilith takes her first shot. The gun cracks the air, but she just misses the spider's underbelly. Her bullet bounces uselessly off its hard exoskeleton; startled, it skitters backward.]
Damn it. Gotta practice my aim-- [She tries again. This time, her shot flies true. Another harsh crack sounds; the skulltula, mortally wounded, spins in final confusion and collapses, dead.] There we go.
[there's probably also some spider guts on Hermann lmao sorry bud]

Thus, when the air first splits, Hermann flinches, throwing himself flat and his arms over his head, knocking himself with his own damn cane in the process. Brilliant, he thinks, wildly, now someone's shooting at me -- it's a first, somewhat irrational thought, given where the bullet bounces, but his mind's stuck on assuming the worst at the moment.
He might have yelled about that, too, but a second shot rings in his ears, and there's a rather awful sound that coincides neatly with a splatter.
Goo, stinking and hot and very much from the spider's insides, splashes right on him.
Happily, he'd only just started lowering his arms.
But he had.
Hermann gags, swallows hard an immediate rush of bile, and fishes a rag out of his pocket to swipe the slime off his face. But -- he's alive, and the spider's dead, so as he wipes, he's twisting in his ungraceful seat, picking out the woman with the gun.
Proceeds to wave his handkerchief, unintentionally like some sort of incredibly ugly lady at a medieval tourney, hailing her knight. ]
You, thank you, I think. Thank you.
wheezes and crawls into this thread
Who the hell uses a handkerchief anymore?
Whatever; he's called her over in thanks, regardless, so she'll take the gratitude. Pace brisk, gun shouldered, she moves over to him, boots echoing quick snaps of impact on the coliseum stones. He looks like a mess, really, even without the layer of spider goop dripping off him. The man's skin and bone, more than the most unfortunate of the Pandorans she's seen in her time, even.
Even Lilith feels a little bad.]
Don't mention it. [she answers, nonchalant, and extends her hand to him.]
'Sup. I'm Lilith. And you, buddy, are brand stinkin' new. Welcome to Hadriel.

It would be terribly rude to take her hand with a gooey one, and he'd like not to get more much on his cane. Once satisfied, he considers, then tosses the cloth to the ground. If he puts it in his pocket now, his pocket will get filthy. All that done, he takes her hand, gripping his cane's handle with his other. ]
I'd gathered. Dr. Gottlieb.
[ Hadriel or Haven, anyway. ]
No last name?
DEEP BREATHS
(Real finicky, this guy is, she notes.)]
Don't need one. [she's quick to reply, even if one remains: a remnant of a time when she had any blood left alive. Doesn't matter much now. Once he's steady on his feet and on the grip of his cane, she lets his hand go.]
Houses are thattaway. [Lilith tilts her head in the general direction of the housing spires.] You got your pick, so long as nobody's in 'em. Food is okay-- it's food, can't really ask for more. Oh, and stay outta the caves if you can't fight. Which, I'm guessing... you can't.
[NPC spiel completed, she shrugs.] Any other questions? You're not the first wave of newbies to roll in by far.

Short, if not sweet, but he's no tooth for that when it comes to exposition. ]
You guess correctly. [ Bland and not a bit offended. ]
Plenty, obviously, but I'm not sure you've time for all of them.
[ She had been moving with a rather purposeful stride when he'd waved at her. He glances around the coliseum, to confirm no one else is in dire need of immediate assistance. ]

[She idly shoulders her gun and does the same quick visual sweep.]
Try me.

Thank you, then.
[ An odd place for it, surrounded by bizarre furniture and the air too quiet, likely more arachnids lurking above. She seems comfortable enough, so he won't complain. ]
How long have you been here? What sort of information have you gathered about -- about all of it?
