(no subject)

Who: Newt Geiszler ([personal profile] fortunefavored), Hermann Gottlieb ([personal profile] verinumeri), and a bunch of other people (possibly you???)
What: The building of a lab. For SCIENCE!!!
Where: Next to/close to the clinic.
When: July 22-29
Warnings: Probably some language or something?
Notes: OOC Post here! Feel free to assume they made a post on the Network about needing people to help out. Ooooother than that, I'll throw up some headers and have a party!

[Once the post is made and several volunteers are roped into helping out, pretty soon a set up will be popping up near the clinic in one of the ruined buildings. There are supplies, tables, refreshments, tools...things that might be needed to create a solid, good-sized lab. Newt and Hermann can be found in various places, so feel free to get started building, stop by the refreshment table, and do some mingling!]

( it's been so long since he's been able to do something as mundane as this. something that feels this normal, this familiar, and for a small half-second, it's almost like he's back in kermit, texas, as the handyman of an off-the-map motel with a recuperating dog.

it's a bittersweet sort of memory, but he doesn't linger on it too long, because he has work to do and he'd offered his help in order to be productive. not counter-productive.

right now, he's painting. easy enough work, simple and repetitive, cathartic in the sort of way that manual labor always is. honest work that ends in the creation of something, rather than destroying it - ah, the hunting life never has room for much of that, does it? this had definitely been a good idea.

and guess who is currently stationed at the very edge of the refreshment table, literally sitting on it, not actually lifting a finger to help, other than to help himself to a beer.

goddamn it, henry.

manual labor just isn't his style, you know? it might mess up his hair. but beer, beer most certainly is his style, and maybe ... if you stick around long enough, you'll see him ponder picking up a paintbrush.

maybe.

until then? b e e r.

[Jo stares at the scribbles for a moment and shakes her head. She doesn't really have experience with building labs, but she's put her fair share of flat pack furniture together and she took woodshop in high school because that was the only option. (Home Ec was not an option for her. Plus she already knew how to cook.)]

You think this is enough direction for us? What does this even mean? [She's pointing to a random scribble.]

[ her strength might not be as developed as her speed - the muscles in her arms, while defined and strong, were nothing on those of her legs - but kate is still stronger than she looks. sure, there are those who will far outclass her lifting (back home there were plenty), but for someone who is all of 5'3", the beams and rubble she manages to pick up and toss out are rather surprising.

on occasion, she might be found trying to move something a little too big, and looking for passers by with a: ]
You get that? [ and a nod of her head to the other side of whatever it is she's trying to lug out of the building.

in the final few days, she can also be found taking a few spare pieces from the clinic - a table here, a few tools there - to the lab, making runs back and forth with her characteristic superhuman speed. ]

victor - ota!

[personal profile] pullback 2016-07-25 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Victor can't lift worth a damn. But he does have a bizarrely good knowledge of electricity, due to the fact that he pretty much had to wire up his entire 'resurrect a corpse' set-up by himself. So, once the beams get up, Victor scurries in between the beams, before the slats get assembled, running wires to various parts of the lab that need electricity. Occasionally, he's tinkering with a generator or something, equally trying to see how it works as well as helping to install the electricity.

The final product might be a touch slipshod (after all, Victor's never actually done electricity for a building before) but at least he's having fun and it's keeping him out of everybody's hair. Victor never really smiles but his excitement over wires and fuseboxes is palpable.

This also means that occasionally, something sparks or gives off a worrying smell. Whoops. Just ignore it, nothing bad's happening there!

[ No ladders or cranes. Wanda's spent enough time in Sokovia with the others, pinpointing the living heartbeats in the rubble. She knows her limits; practice will only help, in the long run. She's better at it within a few hours, red trails around her hands, glows in her eyes. The stone dust swirls idly around. Stone against stone echoes around, the swell of the others thinking all around her. ]

[ There are moments where the red vanishes, and she is walking around the freshly placed stones, wondering aloud, ]

Maybe you're teaching him how to join walls. Maybe you're helping him clear rubble and see him stare at the discouragingly huge pile of rock and beams and sigh. Maybe he's helping to steady something that you're securing in place and he's yelling at you to hurry it up, this thing is heavy!! Maybe you look like what you've got is too heavy and he's decided to lend you a hand. Maybe he's doing something wrong and someone needs to correct him before it gets harder to fix! Up to you.]

[Elmer is outclassed here by most folks when it comes to strength - he's all of 5'7" and as average in body type as a guy can get. But when Kate asks for help, he doesn't hesitate. He grabs the other end of the chunk of rubble with a skip in his step and a smile on his face.]

Sure can! Where are we taking it? It's a pretty big piece, yeah?

[personal profile] pullback 2016-07-30 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Oh, it's that girl. Victor remembers her from the colosseum. He watches her magic for a while—thankfully, he hasn't seen anything like it. In theory, witches could probably move stones like that but the didn't have that power signature, that red that (after watching for five minutes), Victor's certain comes with Wanda's power.

Because he knows he's been staring at her for a while, Victor knows that he's got to at least talk to Wanda...she's probably caught him watching. Walking up to her, he offers her a glass of that citrusy sort of drink that was on the refreshment table.
]

I thought you might need this.

[ His intent is a sharp spear, carefully focused. Wanda tolerates it until she has moved a few stones: the demonstration is the key, and she's familiar with tests. She smiles politely as he offers her the drink. ]

Thank you. You did not take one for yourself?

[ ooc: I'd appreciate if you filled out her powers permissions. ]

[personal profile] pullback 2016-07-31 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Fascinating. He can't help but be impressed. He's seen people wield power before—a witch, using her power to twist his mind, or to physically slam people into walls. But for something as utilitarian as moving rocks? Victor's impressed that Wanda was so confident in her abilities that she would use them for something so careless.

At her question though, he shakes his head.
]

I haven't been doing much heavy lifting today—it's the electrical systems that I've found interesting.

[ after all, something's got to help run the lights. Since electricity is common in this world, Victor will gladly take the opportunity to explore it. ]

( ooc: done did! c: )
scarletcast: ([ aou ] 003)

[personal profile] scarletcast 2016-08-01 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
[ She asked for power, it is meaningless unless it's used. Besides, practice is better. Wanda gestures for them both to sit on one of the outcrops as she sips her drink. ]

Are they working already? I had thought they'd be installed after we were done with the outer walls.

[personal profile] pullback 2016-08-01 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Well not really. I'm working on that because it's the least I can do. That and I want to know as much about the electricity of this world as I can.

[ Victor Frankenstein is the sort of person who, when first meeting an American, asked him what he knew about electrical currents because really, Americans had that in the bag moreso than the British did. The opportunity to explore an electrical system so much more advanced than what he knows up close and personal is too exciting to think about.

Not that you can tell from his face or words, of course. Victor's brimming with maniac energy, though he keeps his expressions and tone a carefully clipped neutral.

[ It's — electricity, isn't it? Same in every world. Circuits, wires, at least physics is somewhat stable, which is comforting only because she's actively considering it as such. Hadriel only offers the illusion of normalcy with its daylight. ]

[ He brims with delight and curiosity, so carefully balanced on a thin wire. ]

Have you been to the library yet?

[personal profile] pullback 2016-08-01 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It is electricity but Victor hasn't dealt with electricity to begin with. He knows the bare minimum so playing with things! Learning! It's fun!

At her question, Victor nods.

[Elmer's all for throwing stuff out the window. It's pretty fun. He does his best to slowly maneuver is that way without tripping on anything else.]

You got it. Not much more to go, eh? Just the big stuff like this. We're making some nice progress here. We ought to buckle down on all the homes and get them shaped into, um, well, something. I'm thinking a games room. We can all play cards and make up board games and the like.

[Despite carrying something heavy, he still somehow manages to find the air to talk non-stop as usual.]

[Sans is definitely not helping his roommates build their very important laboratory. He commends them in spirit, definitely, but as far as actual effort is concerned, he'll settle for giving them encouraging winks and nods from the snack table.

He's not sipping beer - in fact, he seems to be content enough with the packet of relish he's splitting open - but the skeleton grins vaguely in Henry's direction by way of greeting.]

We still have plenty of space for that, right? We'll worry about taking it apart after we put it together in the first place. But we need more to do around here. It's a bit dull in between the monsters or strange things or new people showing up, don't you think?

[Go on, try to get him to turn down the optimism. I dare you.]

Gotta have something to distract people, and have them look forward to, right?

A pool table! Now that would be great. I suppose we'd need a lot of tools for that, and some felt, and the balls and cues... It'll be tough, but nothing's impossible. Maybe the next time people arrive, there'll be some carpenters among them.

[Elmer's certainly not one, but that wouldn't stop him from trying.]

I haven't found many tools while out and about, though. Do we have more than just the cleaning and painting supplies that were dropped off for us anywhere?

( well, why help when you can be a general menace to the ones doing actual work? granted, for his own causes he's at least made it look like he's doing some work in the past, but in the here and now, there isn't much to the logic of being here in the first place beyond free refreshments.

and he dares anyone to defy that logic with reason. he dares them.

he takes a sip of his beer and gives the skeleton a sidelong glance, thinking idly - is this the one noah mentioned? the one that puns? - and then he's shrugging lazily, grin stretched wide and pleased.
) Can you even call it helping? I suppose I'm liberating the group of that which might end up distracting them - ( indicating his beer, here, because that's one hell of a distraction! ) - and that's pretty helpful, wouldn't you say?

( and now, he has to take notice of the relish packet. ) Are you going to eat that?

You're doing good work, buddy. Honorable work. I'm sure they appreciate it.
