Who: Newt Geiszler (
fortunefavored), Hermann Gottlieb (
verinumeri), and a bunch of other people (possibly you???)
What: The building of a lab. For SCIENCE!!!
Where: Next to/close to the clinic.
When: July 22-29
Warnings: Probably some language or something?
Notes: OOC Post here! Feel free to assume they made a post on the Network about needing people to help out. Ooooother than that, I'll throw up some headers and have a party!
[Once the post is made and several volunteers are roped into helping out, pretty soon a set up will be popping up near the clinic in one of the ruined buildings. There are supplies, tables, refreshments, tools...things that might be needed to create a solid, good-sized lab. Newt and Hermann can be found in various places, so feel free to get started building, stop by the refreshment table, and do some mingling!]

NEWT | OTA
He's good at this.
Which is why he's currently looking at his rough sketch, then back up at the ruins, and frowning.
Hopefully someone who actually knows what they're doing will help him out.]
Actual Building of Things
Refreshment Table
Oh, and beer.
Definitely beer. ]
no subject
[Maketh peers at the mess dubiously. While she's no scientist, she has some experience in wrangling them.] What are you doing?
sam ; ota!
it's a bittersweet sort of memory, but he doesn't linger on it too long, because he has work to do and he'd offered his help in order to be productive. not counter-productive.
right now, he's painting. easy enough work, simple and repetitive, cathartic in the sort of way that manual labor always is. honest work that ends in the creation of something, rather than destroying it - ah, the hunting life never has room for much of that, does it? this had definitely been a good idea. )
henry ; ota and i'm so, so sorry.
and guess who is currently stationed at the very edge of the refreshment table, literally sitting on it, not actually lifting a finger to help, other than to help himself to a beer.
goddamn it, henry.
manual labor just isn't his style, you know? it might mess up his hair. but beer, beer most certainly is his style, and maybe ... if you stick around long enough, you'll see him ponder picking up a paintbrush.
maybe.
until then? b e e r. )

You think this is enough direction for us? What does this even mean? [She's pointing to a random scribble.]
| kate . open .
on occasion, she might be found trying to move something a little too big, and looking for passers by with a: ] You get that? [ and a nod of her head to the other side of whatever it is she's trying to lug out of the building.
in the final few days, she can also be found taking a few spare pieces from the clinic - a table here, a few tools there - to the lab, making runs back and forth with her characteristic superhuman speed. ]
victor - ota!
The final product might be a touch slipshod (after all, Victor's never actually done electricity for a building before) but at least he's having fun and it's keeping him out of everybody's hair. Victor never really smiles but his excitement over wires and fuseboxes is palpable.
This also means that occasionally, something sparks or gives off a worrying smell. Whoops. Just ignore it, nothing bad's happening there! ]
wanda, ota.
[ There are moments where the red vanishes, and she is walking around the freshly placed stones, wondering aloud, ]
Too far this side?
Ichigo : OTA
drawnas teenage-wiry as he is. Maybe you're teaching him how to join walls. Maybe you're helping him clear rubble and see him stare at the discouragingly huge pile of rock and beams and sigh. Maybe he's helping to steady something that you're securing in place and he's yelling at you to hurry it up, this thing is heavy!! Maybe you look like what you've got is too heavy and he's decided to lend you a hand. Maybe he's doing something wrong and someone needs to correct him before it gets harder to fix! Up to you.]no subject
Sure can! Where are we taking it? It's a pretty big piece, yeah?
no subject
Because he knows he's been staring at her for a while, Victor knows that he's got to at least talk to Wanda...she's probably caught him watching. Walking up to her, he offers her a glass of that citrusy sort of drink that was on the refreshment table. ]
I thought you might need this.
[ A nice gesture, yes. Something that he can use to help talk to her about her powers, also yes. ]
no subject
no subject
Thank you. You did not take one for yourself?
[ ooc: I'd appreciate if you filled out her powers permissions. ]
no subject
At her question though, he shakes his head. ]
I haven't been doing much heavy lifting today—it's the electrical systems that I've found interesting.
[ after all, something's got to help run the lights. Since electricity is common in this world, Victor will gladly take the opportunity to explore it. ]
( ooc: done did! c: )
no subject
Are they working already? I had thought they'd be installed after we were done with the outer walls.
no subject
[ Victor Frankenstein is the sort of person who, when first meeting an American, asked him what he knew about electrical currents because really, Americans had that in the bag moreso than the British did. The opportunity to explore an electrical system so much more advanced than what he knows up close and personal is too exciting to think about.
Not that you can tell from his face or words, of course. Victor's brimming with maniac energy, though he keeps his expressions and tone a carefully clipped neutral. ]
no subject
[ He brims with delight and curiosity, so carefully balanced on a thin wire. ]
Have you been to the library yet?
no subject
At her question, Victor nods. ]
I have—the language of most is indecipherable, but I've started attempting to decrypt it.
no subject
You got it. Not much more to go, eh? Just the big stuff like this. We're making some nice progress here. We ought to buckle down on all the homes and get them shaped into, um, well, something. I'm thinking a games room. We can all play cards and make up board games and the like.
[Despite carrying something heavy, he still somehow manages to find the air to talk non-stop as usual.]
no subject
He's not sipping beer - in fact, he seems to be content enough with the packet of relish he's splitting open - but the skeleton grins vaguely in Henry's direction by way of greeting.]
I see you're doing the minimum amount of helping that can be called "helping".
[But he doesn't sound fussed about it. In fact, his tone is one of...admiration? Solidarity?
Who can tell.]

[Go on, try to get him to turn down the optimism. I dare you.]
Gotta have something to distract people, and have them look forward to, right?
no subject
I'm sure there are people here interested if you have any success. The only books we can read are all for children.
no subject
... Somehow, that girl always manages to make things work out for her, too. Who woulda thought it? ] S'pose we do always need a distraction. [ She uses all sorts of busy work for a distraction, but games never go amiss. ] Think we can make a pool table?
no subject
[ said with a little nod. And hey, if he's going to decipher the mystery alphabet, children's books are the best way to start. ]
no subject
[ That's rather Natasha's skillset and not hers — Wanda doesn't have the patience or the desperation to be combing through them yet. ]
no subject
[Elmer's certainly not one, but that wouldn't stop him from trying.]
I haven't found many tools while out and about, though. Do we have more than just the cleaning and painting supplies that were dropped off for us anywhere?
no subject
no subject
And she really needs to stop making off the cuff suggestions to people who take them as a challenge, but all the same... More distractions were welcome. She heaves the rubble slightly, bringing his attention back to it; ] Think we can get this out the window?
no subject
[ Nothing more terrifying than the lesson at the end of the stories she heard as a child. ]
There is someone else here who may be interested in doing it. Barbara Gordon.
no subject
Well, I suppose Miss Gordon and I will have a lot to talk about.
no subject
Armory, eh? Haven't found that yet. Sounds like we'd be carving pool tables with swords, though.
no subject
feel free to ignore this late as hell reply ;;
and he dares anyone to defy that logic with reason. he dares them.
he takes a sip of his beer and gives the skeleton a sidelong glance, thinking idly - is this the one noah mentioned? the one that puns? - and then he's shrugging lazily, grin stretched wide and pleased. ) Can you even call it helping? I suppose I'm liberating the group of that which might end up distracting them - ( indicating his beer, here, because that's one hell of a distraction! ) - and that's pretty helpful, wouldn't you say?
( and now, he has to take notice of the relish packet. ) Are you going to eat that?
no worries friend i backtag into infinity
You're doing good work, buddy. Honorable work. I'm sure they appreciate it.
What, this?
[He jiggles the packet indicatively before tearing it open and squeezing the whole thing into his mouth. His teeth don't open, but it definitely ends up in there. Don't ask, it's probably magic.]
Yep.
i do too but i still felt it would be respectful to apologize ;;
he gives a thumbs-up, still grinning ear-to-ear like a man manic. hi-5 for solidarity! )They'd better. This is hard work, now that I think about it. I mean, what would happen if I were to get up? This table might float away.
( god, henry. you're so full of shit.
... he wouldn't have asked, trust him, because it seems like it might just be better to leave some things to the imagination; besides, how can it not be magic, when taking into consideration he's talking to a skeleton in the first place. ) Salud, then. To each his own. ( and he drains his beer. )
Hey, I've got an odd question for you. Do you like puns?
never fear <3
Either Sans is getting himself a reputation or this guy is fantastic at pegging people. Regardless, he's not fussed. He arches a supraorbital ridge in protracted amusement and chuckles.]
You could say I've got a punchant for 'em, yeah.
