Intro Log: Arm Yourself

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for August
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: August 10th-15th
Warnings: Stalkers, newbies, and cute loot!

Sleeping on the cold dirt ground of the colosseum is enough to make anyone uncomfortable. It might be a little worse this month than others, as some of you may be waking up on top of or around various self defense devices (btw: that last one is a taser).

Come to think of it, you'll probably need those. Also in the colosseum and already stalking you are... uh, well, stalkers from the Borderlands game series. Stalkers come armed with claws, teeth, and sharp tails- and what's more, they can turn invisible to sneak up on you. Zap them with your newfound taser or stab them with your jewelry comb knife or just run away screaming- we won't judge, but you have to do something or else they'll kill you and eat your corpse and all sorts of unfortunate things.

Good luck finding a way out. Maybe you can make some friends along the way.

All done and escaped from the clutches of the colosseum? Awesome! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers August 10th-15th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

[The knife is very much noted. Not just a simple gardening tool; not as it is now, and not here. It doesn't take a question to know how it came to be like that, nor do they need the ability to read into Chara's very SOUL to understand what that means for them.

Their Partner's been walking a very dusty path.]

...So it's just you now.

[And just them. Where does that leave us, in the end? There's no thrill of nerves at the internal pondering, or stroke of fear. It's...whatever it is.

Doesn't feel quite right.]

Some people just can't take a hint. You could have just agreed with him and kept your mouth shut, but no. Having the kid pull away just means he just has another hand free to stabilize the gun -- now pointed directly at Firo. There's no way he'll miss at this range.

"Indeed. It looks like we have a now have a problem on our hands," Sato replies, oddly cheerful while sighting down the barrel. He might still be completely lost as to the details of the current situation in general , but this specific one is familiar. "Too bad."

Bang.

[Thanks. They learned to dodge the hard way; you know, back when people just watched and never felt the need to interject. Real do or die instances.

Ones that are neither here or there; wrong underground. Wrong monsters, partially.

Definitely the wrong weapon, a few moments to play about with the plastic (a rarity, now days) and let their nail catch onto the ON switch before things become a little more clear cut, a little more weighted.

It tries to struggle. But nothing happens. It's a shocking opportunity, one that Frisk's lightning fast in taking advantage of. Dashing forwards, they tap it into the Stalker's side, jerking in alarm at the clickclickclick of electricity running from conducive metal tips to scales.

The thing screeches loudly. Apparently, it doesn't like that.

[It's different. You push and push and push. Finally the wall gives in. Then what?]

Just me.

[And it's odd when those words leave their mouth. Perhaps it was because they had always been the backseat driver. 'Us'. Always us.]

Have you run into anyone else? There are a number of interesting people here.

In other words, a little less Marvel vs Capcom, and a little more Playstation All-Stars.

"Oh? If you don't mind my asking, where did you call home before you were brought here?" The military feeling is pretty strong, and now that he's had a good look at her, it's amusing that the one cross-shaped scar on her cheek looks awfully like the one he used to have. Vietnam was such a long time ago, but it's fun to think back on once in a while. Good times. Maybe there's a good war story or two here too.

Come to think of it, he should have asked EDI the same question. Sato has the distinct feeling he would have really enjoyed the answer. Maybe another day.

[He's no computer whiz, but Sato always has enjoyed all trying out new technology.]

I'm sure it is worth a couple drinks, but you might want to hang on to it for now. There's useful information information here and there.

[But way of example, he scrolls down past the post the map was attached to and the comments. Back, and there's a list of text posts, video posts... lots of activity over the last month. Can Mr. Medieval Man even read? Sato gives him the benefit of the doubt, since nobody likes being talked down to.]

I'm told we can even use it to give the 'gods' a call, although I haven't gone that far yet myself.

You're going to get to. We still have it smoked and dried, around, months later.

[He says, wryly, guiding him into one of the most promising shops, and stopping to gather the first box- a bland looking tea wafer, which he opens up- from his clothes he's going to guess Clegane hasn't necessarily seen airtight plastic packaging before- before offering out to him.]

Everyone is sick of it and will trade for it, if you can find more like this.
glacius: (Regarding you.)

[personal profile] glacius 2016-08-14 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am that of most," Glacius responds, "Very few have seen a being as exotic as myself. You are handling it... remarkably well, compared to most. And as far as why I came into this accursed place, it was to defend those who are suffering, those who might not be as well equipped to handle the torments of this place. I cannot in good conscience leave anyone to the mercy of the gods."
glacius: (Regarding you.)

[personal profile] glacius 2016-08-14 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[The stalker, as if sensing its oncoming demise, rights itself with a powerful beat of its leathery wings and attempts to scamper away. A well-placed pillar of ice from the icy alien knocks it down again, and by that point Rashid is already upon it, finishing it with a powerful kick. Silence settles into the immediate area as the dust from the frenetic confrontation settles.

Glacius stands completely still for a moment, watching the bodies of the stalkers that are scattered around them. When none of them so much as twitch, and he's sure they are well and truly dead he finally straightens up, casting a glance to the man.]
That was good work. You are a highly competent fighter. That will serve you well in this place... I regret to be the one to inform you of this, but that will not be the last of the monstrosities that you will have to face in this strange, underground city.

Quite so.

[Cue friendly smile and nod.]

It all seems very difficult to believe, doesn't it.

"Bringing in monsters would be Fear?" Maybe Rage or Delight, depending on who you talked to, but it seemed a reasonable guess, given the options. Speaking of which... there really didn't seem to be nearly as many now that they were in the city proper.

"By the way, if you don't mind my asking, where exactly are we headed?" he asks. He's just been following along, taking note of the path, but the whole place is completely unfamiliar.

"Gods? See, I don't normally do gods. I don't normally like to dip my little feet in magic at all! Is there some kind of work around for this Door-thingy where we don't have to... you know, risk our feathers messing with higher powers?"

Somehow he feels like this answer is going to be 'no' but feels inclined to explore all of his cowardly options before admitting his defeat.

The clothing gets a small look from Simon, but not as much as it might normally. After all, with what's probably close to a hundred people here, all kidnapped from different worlds and forced to live off of what seems like the refuse of a culture long dead, you don't always get options when it comes to what you wear. He's far more interested in what the man has to say, after all.

"Well, I guess it would be too much to ask for a clear source of information," he says, only the faintest traces of irony in his voice. "Could you direct me anyway? Maybe it's a language I'm familiar with." Though that would be too easy, wouldn't it?
skelebro: (sansye shrug)

[personal profile] skelebro 2016-08-14 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm a little low on material. You ain't the first fella I've met today.

[He winks again. Bone probably shouldn't work like that, but he seems unconcerned by the notion.]

I could rib ya a little harder if it'd make you feel better, though.

His sheer relief at seeing his sister alive is overwhelming, trumping his concern--he already knew they'd done things to her at that place, that they were trying to make her a weapon, the combat skill was just confirmation of a theory all but given--but only for a moment. She shouldn't be here, she should have run. But he'll run with her, if that's what it takes to get her to safety. He doesn't hesitate to grab her hand, bloody or not. He's no stranger to blood. That doesn't matter nearly as much as the flesh beneath it, keeping that flesh whole. Squeezing tightly, he scans for an exit.

"You're right. We have to get out of here." Before more of those things come, because of course that's their luck--of course there'd be more.

[The arc of white-hot electricity into scaly hide is difficult to look at, even more difficult to hear, and Sans can't contain his wince as it screams, and screams, and screams.

Kid's willing to hurt. He knew that, though, didn't he? Didn't he - crap, he hasn't prepared any kind of sorting method to determine the variation between a1 and a2. The first variable suggested this agent must've been the dominant presence in the gestalt or antigestalt or whichever or whatever might exist in between, but he's still doubting that all-out genocide is what triggers the concrete shift. Then again, that kid ain't the most reliable of sources.

Questions for another time.

He could wait for the thing to get reduced to ash and bones, but he's got no interest in seein' bones look so inappropriately lifeless and sad-looking and holding it in the spot is starting to wear him down the bone, so to speak, so he clears his (lack of a) throat, and raises his voice loud enough to be heard over the echoing rattle of the taser.]

What say we bug outta here, kid?

"Doctor...?" That does get his attention, more so than the confirmation that there's probably nothing of value in the aforementioned library. "No, I don't believe we have. I'm new. Simon Tam." His lips twitch in a self-deprecating smile. "Doctor Simon Tam, though if the medical facilities are much like everything else around here, I'm not sure that'll count for much. It's a pleasure to meet you, Doctor Banner."

"You're an actual medical doctor? Thank God. You're right, they're terrible, I've been shoestringing along and I'm just a doctorate of nuclear physics who understands basic first aid- the situation is dire, and I'm so glad you're here."

He says, with immediate, nearly light headed relief.

"If you want, I can show you to the clinic. Just Bruce is fine."

[That's not the news Rashid wanted to hear. He sighs and stays quiet for a bit, trying to process everything. Invisible monsters, giant ice beings, being underground...]

I want to say that I've been through worse, but this is up there.

I take it you've been here a while yourself? You sound like you've faced off with these things before, or something like it.
glacius: (I'm listening.)

[personal profile] glacius 2016-08-14 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I have. I was brought to this place and dumped in this very colosseum to fight for my life just as you were, months ago. You see, the beings that oversee this place, the ones responsible for bringing you here, they feed off of our emotions. They draw energy from our delight and hope, but also our rage, our sorrow, and our fear... and they care not what happens to us as they manipulate this world to encourage those feelings.
hippocratical: (sure)

still kawaii in the sheets??

[personal profile] hippocratical 2016-08-14 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Is it that obvious?" His smile in return is small but more or less genuine. "I'm still getting the lay of the land, I guess. Not that there's much land to get the lay of." Not that he minds, either. The cave is large enough to not feel totally claustrophobic, and he'd been living on Serenity long enough that the idea of walls are more of a comfort than concern.
hippocratical: (sure)

[personal profile] hippocratical 2016-08-14 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
He's a little surprised by the appearance of flowers. To be fair, he hadn't exactly been thinking about the flora of the cave so much as the very angry and aggressive fauna--or whatever the equivalent latin term would be for monsters, bestia maybe?--but still, don't flowers usually require sunlight to bloom? Then again, maybe he shouldn't expect anything to work the way it normally would in a place like this. Even in his time, teleportation is basically a pipe dream.

"Thank you," he says, finally remembering his manners. "So I've been hearing, but I keep hoping maybe it'll be a language I recognize. Every new face is another chance at translation, right?" Hope's about all they have, after all, isn't it? He gestures down at the flower bed, indicating Gansey's work.

"I'm amazed anything grows down here. You've done good work."

[personal profile] keep_smiling 2016-08-14 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, come now! What I mean by best chance is that you're small and fast. Smaller and faster than the rest of us here, right? You could probably breeze right past any monsters.

[Elmer looks pretty excited by the idea.]

I've tried myself, but I only find myself getting into heaps of trouble. And I'm not even very big for a person. But maybe you can slip past them in the dark. Can you see alright in the dark?
turbulentwind: (get off the phone)

[personal profile] turbulentwind 2016-08-14 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not very reassuring, but thanks for the information.

[He puts his hands behind his head.]

But I gotta ask, just who brought us here? And why do they want our emotions?

[Because they are going to overdose on cheer and happiness from Rashid alone.]
hippocratical: (wary)

"I'm a doctor. Some might say I have a degree in it." In the reading bullshit, anyway--what he does is something he takes very seriously, even if he understands the incomprehension most people feel looking at his medical texts. Who knows, maybe the library is just written in Greek. Or Chinese.

"But if you could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it, regardless."
