Intro Log: Arm Yourself

What: The intro log for August
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: August 10th-15th
Warnings: Stalkers, newbies, and cute loot!

Sleeping on the cold dirt ground of the colosseum is enough to make anyone uncomfortable. It might be a little worse this month than others, as some of you may be waking up on top of or around various self defense devices (btw: that last one is a taser).

Come to think of it, you'll probably need those. Also in the colosseum and already stalking you are... uh, well, stalkers from the Borderlands game series. Stalkers come armed with claws, teeth, and sharp tails- and what's more, they can turn invisible to sneak up on you. Zap them with your newfound taser or stab them with your jewelry comb knife or just run away screaming- we won't judge, but you have to do something or else they'll kill you and eat your corpse and all sorts of unfortunate things.

Good luck finding a way out. Maybe you can make some friends along the way.

All done and escaped from the clutches of the colosseum? Awesome! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

Bruce has to wonder, as they come up around the corner.

Now, say this for the clinic; Bruce loves it. The outside is painted white, and with murals of green leaves, grassy plants, an sprawling forest. The words 'clinic' and 'medics' are written in a dozen different languages, and there are huge red crosses drawn to be seen from a distance.

"They die violently too. Stabbings, shootings, blunt force trauma- death is death."

"I...suppose they do."

Maketh wonders if she ought to get the girl to the clinic. It's possible she has a head wound. Nothing she says is complete nonesense, and yet Maketh feels like she's missing half the information - the context to put everything together. "The guard? It's voluntary. We want to protect the others."

Is that so? [That gives his 'hero' comment an interesting twist. In Maketh's world, the greatest warriors are either Force users or mercenary fighters. Somehow, Rashid doesn't strike her as the mercenary type.

How curious.] Well, we try not to fight each other here. It complicates things. But there are monsters and other dangers. I'm sure you've encountered some already.

"Ah, that's too bad," Sato says sympathetically. War orphan, then? Child soldier? Speculation aside, he adds, "I admit I've become a bit of a wanderer myself, but I'm sure 2013, where I'm from, is a simpler time in comparison."

But chitchat on an individual basis can only go for so long, especially when he does in fact have a goal in mind for today. He stretches, pulling away from the railing, and it's then that it's quite obvious he has a pistol stuck into the waistband of his pants.

"I suppose I should be going, and let you get back to your own business. Would you be able to point me in the direction of the armory? I saw it mentioned on the network, but the exact location is a bit vague."

"That is the most likely." What better way to incite Fear than to hunt the purple least likely to expect it? No one she knows enjoys being prey.

"We are currently moving toward the residential district. If you world prefer another destination, I can direct you there instead." The housing is the most logical place to send, him, though. He'll have to find a place to stay sooner or later.

[With a vague sense of direction worked out, Sato turns the screen off and puts it away for now. He clarifies:]

Oh, I don't believe they're really gods. Although everyone seems to indicate they run the place, well, running a prison is a long way from heavenly qualifications, isn't it? No, the only gods that truly exist are the ones we make for ourselves.

Good luck with finding that bar. I'd come with you, but unfortunately I'm in the middle of my own search for the local armory.

[And Rashid takes the hint, walking along with this weird-looking person. Was he a person? Who cares, he's hungry.]

Yeah, I woke up in some giant Colosseum and fought off these big bug creatures that could turn invisible. I took out a few of them and managed to barely escape.

Met a few other people there, too.

Interesting. Rey recalls Chris saying he was from somewhere around that time, in addition to others from much earlier than that. It seems the timelines in which people have been brought from have no perceivable pattern.

To answer his statement, however: "There's no such thing as a 'simpler time'. Things were just as shitty in the Twenty-first Century as they are now."

Spoken like someone who has lived some of that firsthand, despite it being such a significantly long time ago for someone who looks like her. It's hard to forget how messed up things were, even back then, even with the false memories of women who had lived those days.

"The armory is across the river, just passed the Guard headquarters." She points in the direction where she was headed in order to tend to the generator, as well as the dam farther down. Working in the city as she does, it didn't take long for Rey to get street smart about where things were. She has the memories of a certain former street rat and marine to thank for those skills.

[That gets a short laugh out of him.]

I sure have. They were weird-looking things, too. And they could turn invisible, so that was a pain.

But other than that, I have no intentions of picking a fight with anyone. I may be a warrior, but I'm not into violence.

"Oh, the City Guard?" He'd seen that mentioned too, but not much. "That's very convenient for them. Thank you for your help, Ms... I'm sorry, I don't think we handled introductions properly at all. I'm Sato," he smiles again, extending one hand.

Rin notices Victor's tense reaction and straightens back up with a smile. It's okay, I'm not interested in taking your stuff. He actually wouldn't dream of it. To get a basket like that full, you probably had to work hard. It's admirable and fair.

"That's awesome! How do you tell if it's poisonous? Can you teach me?"

He will, however, try to be friendly and learn your cool tricks if you let him. Not only is "detect poison" useful, that's a neat trick!

Oh?

[She knows a few not-normal humans and rather likes them, but there's clearly something going on here. She has no idea what, but there's something! So instead she'll keep guessing because. Well.]

Or maybe you're dead? But you don't seem like a spirit to me... Hmm.

[Hope you're not uncomfortable with her peering at you rather cloesly.]

To each their own.

[And indeed, he's holding his own very well over there without the use of a weapon beyond that of his fists. She adds a little bit of an extra flourish when she slices the next one up, a hint of a smirk on her face.]

Decades of training.

[Though, she doesn't look like she has too many decades on her herself...]

Oh. I see.

[She tugs on her longer sleeve absent-mindedly, as if vaguely reminding herself that it's still there, that's what she's dressed in at the moment. Then, to get closer to his level (though, really, she's not too much taller than him to begin with), she kneels on one knee, examining the kid.]

It's very unusual that so many are able to see me, including yourself. You are alive, yes?

I am a shinigami. So, something like a spirit, I suppose. [Speaking of technicalities...]

Casper? [This is not a reference the girl understands, sorry Dean. Just your luck you found a ghost (sort of) not only from Japan, but who has been dead for over a century.]

Rin sits up, grimacing a bit as he rubs the bump on his head.

"Yea, I'm fine..." Nothing that won't heal in a few seconds. Still, falls don't tickle. He groans softly as he looks Jo over. Huh, she's kind of cute.

He shakes his head rapidly as he changes his thoughts, because he likes Shiemi, damnit! He laughs himself off.

"Yea, I'm good. It wasn't that bad. Uhh... what about you? I didn't land on you or anything, did I?"

He's... kind of a klutz like that. Wouldn't surprise him if he did, but it wouldn't stop him from feeling bad for it.

It looks more like a Hollow than anything!

[She says it as if it should be obvious, because, yes, it really does remind her a little bit of some Hollows she's seen. No mask, but the wings and scythe-like claws and spikes--it all reminds her very much of a soul-eating monster.]

Have you ever even seen a shinigami before?

Apparently some of them are slowly coming around, or something like that. Getting power from people slowly. But the good ones can't even get rid of some pesky monsters, or let us out, or stop new people from being drawn in.

[He shrugs. Some gods.]

That's okay. We don't need them. We can figure out a way on our own! Good ol' human ingenuity. Or whatever a person might be. Some elbow grease and a confident smile will get us through.

Well Ms. Shinigami, how are you? Are you new here?

[Again, a guess. People suddenly being able to see her was either a case of something mucking with whatever made her invisible to others or she was new and was unaware that it would become possible.]

Yes, some of them can do that. Among other things. [What she wouldn't give for a proper shield generator and security sensors.] That's good to hear. I don't suppose you would consider joining the city guard? It's not very formal, but we're more efficient when we work together.

She doesn't talk like anyone he's ever met before. It's like a limerick and riddle rolled into one, and it makes Steve listen harder, pay attention and try to follow along. She likes art, Steve understands that much for sure, and that gives him a good feeling about her. He looks down at the book again and makes a decision right then and there.

"Then I guess I'd better do it." Wouldn't want society to fall apart, now would he? He smiles a little as he looks back up at her. "That's a nice name. It's pretty." Steve states it as a matter of fact rather than flattery, because it's the truth as he sees it. "For what it's worth, welcome to Hadriel."

Firo topples with the bullet before he even has time to think about what's gone wrong.

It's not an entirely new position for him to be in. Being both a gangster and a nosy jerk, this was bound to happen sooner or later, and so getting shot to death isn't exactly a novelty for him.

Handily enough, this means that his body's had some practice at repairing, so blood and brains and shards of skull are pulling back together before a minute's even passed. Szilard's rather exhaustive research had shown him that, while head wounds are a pain to heal, areas that have been wounded a lot regenerate faster. He's thankful for that now.

He growls while he hauls himself off the ground and looks around to see if the man's moved in the time since Firo was shot. "You wanna try that again, jackass?"
