Intro Log: Arm Yourself

What: The intro log for August
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: August 10th-15th
Warnings: Stalkers, newbies, and cute loot!

Sleeping on the cold dirt ground of the colosseum is enough to make anyone uncomfortable. It might be a little worse this month than others, as some of you may be waking up on top of or around various self defense devices (btw: that last one is a taser).

Come to think of it, you'll probably need those. Also in the colosseum and already stalking you are... uh, well, stalkers from the Borderlands game series. Stalkers come armed with claws, teeth, and sharp tails- and what's more, they can turn invisible to sneak up on you. Zap them with your newfound taser or stab them with your jewelry comb knife or just run away screaming- we won't judge, but you have to do something or else they'll kill you and eat your corpse and all sorts of unfortunate things.

Good luck finding a way out. Maybe you can make some friends along the way.

All done and escaped from the clutches of the colosseum? Awesome! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[Doesn't fit the king's usual naming scheme, does it? There's something else to be said, for the way he phrases things. People like you. People like me. In the thick of it all, there wasn't much time to look at the space around them, but they didn't need much more than a glance, did they?

People like them means humans.]

So they're not monsters. [Not so much a question than it is a statement. They can come to their own conclusions, now and again.

It doesn't negate the bigger issues.]

[Frisk's lips purse, not at all satisfied with the answer provided. They have no doubt that it's the only answer Chara has to give (and the likelihood of it being correct was high), but-

[ That earns a booming laugh -- loud and obnoxious. Yeah, Dean. You're making a fast friend. The worst friend to have in this place, probably. But hey, at least they'll keep themselves entertained. ]

[ Is that the bar he has in sight? Because he's hopeful that is the bar he has in sight. The closer they get to the alcohol, the more his spirits lift. ]

Wouldn't call 'em that, no. Most monsters know how to laugh at a joke instead of just tryin' to take a bite of ya.

[Missing something, they say. He's not sure what they really mean by that at first. Something as opposed to someone.

It's like missing a phantom limb. Like the tingle of an injury that doesn't exist. Such injuries don't exactly hurt in the conventional sense. It's in the nature of psychological injury to have no insight unto itself. Funny how that works.]

[ He retorts -- mostly because of pride and partly because Victor had predicted this. But the truth is, he does need some help because that wound is pretty damn deep and he's losing blood from it freely. ]

But I oughta get you back to your precious little clinic. You ain't gonna do none of these people any good if you're dead.

[ He rises to his feet painfully with a bit of a grunt when he puts weight on the injured leg. ]

She's a nice girl, a good girl, and she should really stop. Simon would probably be disappointed in her behavior, and to that end River sits on her hands while smiling at him.

She can behave. She can.

It's just difficult and massively unappealing at the moment. But...but. There are ways to do things. Courting. A whole pattern, she's seen Simon do it enough.

She can do this. "He's the best. He gave up...everything." Her smile is rueful but only briefly.

"Never tried." River's done other arts; mostly on paper, because that was the most accessible, and then dancing because the body is a great work of art. Oh, dancing. Why isn't there music? Well, there is in her head but that probably doesn't count. "If she does, she'll show you."

[ Come on, Kaneki. If you're not drinking until you're vomiting up your insides, you're not doing it right. ]

And the more you do it, the longer it'll take before you get sick.

[Yes...getting attacked by monsters went you were used to friendly nature from them was a shift. Even the ones Chara had killed were just doing what they did best.

But that's another story.]

Perhaps we can sit for a little while and think. There is no need to stand here.

Hope it don't hurt your feelings when I say the feeling isn't mutual.

[ He bears his teeth and twists with all of his lumbering strength to bring his sword down and behead one of those stalkers. This guy can handle himself in the arena, can't he? Sandor should leave him be. He's creepy. He can see things in his head. He knew his name. Which means -- what else does he know? What else can he see?

But perhaps it's this place -- the fact that he's lost and alone in a strange new world with no one to call an ally. He had always been a loner. But at least, from time to time, he found some people to be on the same side as. And if given the option -- it's probably better to work together with this guy than against him. ]

I ain't standing around here to be made into no bloody lampchop. Are you coming or what?

[ They can beat down every last monster, but it will quickly sap his strength, and he only did just "come back from the dead" here. It's probably better to find an exit and leave all the other poor, hopeless fucks to their battles and injuries. ]

This place can't be any more of a shit show than the last joint I was in, that's for sure.

[ Well. It can, actually. Though after two years of Haven, Rose isn't sure that anything will ever be as bad. Here's to hoping this hellhole doesn't prove her wrong. ]

Finding a place might be a good idea. That is... a thing I should definitely do. [ She'd been hoping, actually, to find her friends but the thought of them pushes her close to the edge of emotional and she's not about to put that on this poor dude. She'll find them. She will. Even if it's not... here. ]

Do I just, like, claim a place in the name of me or what?

So- she's like Mettaton. Frisk nods wisely, the explanation making perfect sense, as far as they're concerned. No technicalities required.]

Yeah. We- need a plan. [Something more than just sitting and thinking, or talking to people. The idea of not having the weight of things resting upon their slim shoulders just doesn't sit right; feels wrong, and thus, they have to do something about it.

They just need to find out what.]

[The atmosphere shifts, in that way that Sans does, sometimes. The proverbial spotlight coming on, beaming Frisk in the face as they stare calmly back into an expression they wouldn't dream of putting a description to, eyes slowly sliding away to the ground.

Not so much afraid as calm in the wake of it. Just another thing they've come to accept.]

I wasn't talking about Papyrus. [And back to looking at his face, the smallest line of concern on their brow.] ...He's not here?

[ Look, Dean has a habit of making really shitty friends, it's okay. He'll deal with the consequences when they come and he has a feeling that they're... going to rear their heads eventually. ]

Like they think it's what anyone wants to see.

[ That would be the bar in sight yes, thank their lucky stars. Dean is all but waving them onward because booze is always something to get excited about, especially when there's no one around to judge how much of it he's been drinking lately. And he has a feeling this guy won't give a shit.

Though, okay- that makes him snort. ]

Firo turns down one of the winding streets. The bar--that's always a good place to take people to talk, and he's sure a new arrival especially needs a drink.

"That's how it usually goes. No warning at all."

He rubs the back of his neck. "You're probably not gonna get back to your coffee any time soon--I've been here for months, and I know people who've been here much longer. Sorry."

"Apartments? Oh, no, I already have a place to live! I just... have to figure out where I'm at and where my teammates are." And what kind of weird field trip this is. Rin's not really phased yet. You'll have to forgive him, Jo.

Rin gently takes the fruit. Awe, y'didn't have to!

"Thanks! This looks great."

And, Rin realizes he doesn't have any supplies to cook with. Shit... Maybe he should check out those apartments after all, if he can't find his teammates.

[Sato replies cheerily. 'Don't get yourself killed' is right up there with 'YOLO' in the category of phrases that are completely irrelevant for him these days.]

Sato peers around, keeping track of their route through the city. Where on earth is this? Or, he supposes, not on earth seems to be a possibility if he's inferring from Firo's words correctly.

"Oho. I wouldn't mind something new and interesting to kill a few days, but I don't think I can hang around here that long. Things to do, you know," he replies lightly, finally sticking the pistol back into the waistband of his pants.

Oho. I think the best I've met so far has been a rather unkempt medieval warrior. Of course, it seems like everyone here is a bit unusual in one way or another.

[That would be his cue to make some kind of joke about his bro's cool pastimes, how busy he is, maybe off cooking up a storm.

It's- tea? It's black, but welcome to life in a post-apocalyptic cave. We have neither cattle nor sugarcanes.

I think some people have found a little, but not me.

It's probably both. You have a mix here, of people who are a little off, and people who genuinely want to help.

I personally don't mind, to be honest. Yes, conservation of meat-producing species would be good, but the bears and the yetis were both foul-tempered and fast.

Firo laughs; it doesn't have a hint of humor in it. "Join the club." He needs to get back now--or several months ago. Speaking to Victor about Ennis's situation mitigated some of his urgency, but how could he know if he could really trust the FBI agent's word?

"What've you got to take care of?"

If circumstances were different, for instance, a friend with a hidden tranquillizer rifle and a few steel barrels around just in case, Sato would happily share details. But as it is, he doesn't even skip a beat in skimming over the issue.

"Some friends of mine will be expecting me to give them a hand later," he says lightly. Even if the city is pretty run-down looking, this is definitely much more than he was expecting. "I suppose it's not that important, but still... nobody likes to be confined. Even if their prison appears to be surprisingly large."
