Intro Log: Arm Yourself

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for August
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: August 10th-15th
Warnings: Stalkers, newbies, and cute loot!

Sleeping on the cold dirt ground of the colosseum is enough to make anyone uncomfortable. It might be a little worse this month than others, as some of you may be waking up on top of or around various self defense devices (btw: that last one is a taser).

Come to think of it, you'll probably need those. Also in the colosseum and already stalking you are... uh, well, stalkers from the Borderlands game series. Stalkers come armed with claws, teeth, and sharp tails- and what's more, they can turn invisible to sneak up on you. Zap them with your newfound taser or stab them with your jewelry comb knife or just run away screaming- we won't judge, but you have to do something or else they'll kill you and eat your corpse and all sorts of unfortunate things.

Good luck finding a way out. Maybe you can make some friends along the way.

All done and escaped from the clutches of the colosseum? Awesome! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[He waves a bony hand in Kaneki's direction as he starts ambling away. What, were you expecting him to stay? He's got important naps to get to!]

Most places seem to consist mostly of humans. Except for when there are none at all.

[She looks like it, but she also said that nobody should be able to see her which very much does not sound like it. And with a number of people, you wouldn't be able to tell at first glance.]

[ In Dean's case, human hardly meant innocent or harmless even the slightest bit. Especially when it came to touting the Mark of Cain, everyone (that is to say, everyone from home) - including him - seemed to forget it offered him physical opportunities that he hadn't had before. He was enhanced, but sure as hell wasn't talking about it to just anyone.

But hey, he was trying to play the nice guy with the newbies, sue him. Seemed to be working with this guy at least; nobody'd thrown a punch yet. Go them. ]

Hadriel. Welcome to the caves.

[ He lifted a finger and pointed up towards their.. organic ceiling before glancing back down again. The question wasn't one he spent any time mulling over, though, giving a slight shake of his head. ]

If you're lookin' for food, the shops are your best bet. Pretty sure the clinic's only gonna have coffee and i'm not even sure about that much.

The problem is, the authorities on that question are utterly untrustworthy.

Our oldest gods are Hope and Fear, and they're- Hope brought us here, and Fear is evil, routinely tortures us to make us frightened to feed himself.

So I would hesitate to call either of them certain.

[Rashid walks alongside this potential new friend, happy to be out of that place and even happier to be away from the monsters. That was the worst welcoming party ever, in his opinion.

More hanging out, fewer monsters, please.

He peers over to where Glacius is pointing, whistling at their size and structure.]

I'll have to check it out, then. Don't want to be bumming out on the streets when I don't have to.

I've done what I can, but I spend more time outside trying to clean things up than in here. Lots of painting especially. Anything to brighten up a place with no sunlight, you know?

[The games Elmer has are all JRPGs. In Japanese, as a matter of fact. Golden Sun, Breath of Fire II, Link's Awakening, and Dragon Warrior. He lights up when Sato mentions them.]

I do! Well, I did. Batteries are all dry, I'm afraid. Had I known I was going to get dragged to this city, I would have stocked up on more. You a gamer, then?

[That sharp whistle immediately grabs the alien's attention. Of all the unique vocalizations he's heard humans make, this one is remarkably similar to some of the more carefree sounds his people make! Studying Rashid for a moment before ultimately resolving that it must mean something different in his culture, Glacius returns to the subject at hand.] No, you will probably be much more comfortable within. Plus, the streets are not always safe--sometimes creatures from the cave systems wander into the city. I--and the rest of the Guard, actually--do our best to curb their numbers, but sometimes the god orchestrate events beyond our ability to control.

Judging by those things in the Colosseum, I'm not surprised the streets are unsafe.

[Leave it to him to be kicked out of a sleeping spot by a wandering monster or something.]

The Guard?

And more importantly, the "god"?

Oh yes. I'm quite the enthusiast, you might say. Now, couldn't you find batteries in the shops eventually?

[He asks, looking through the small pile of cartridges. In Japanese isn't a problem, but... ]

Hmm. Not even any Mario games?

I'm sorry..? [Now Glacius swivels his head on his curving neck, regarding Rashid with genuine confusion.] I have already told you about these things... but perhaps your attention was taken up by our fight to survive, which is understandable. Would you like me to explain them again?

[hasitsthorns]

[ Her own universe wasn't the best and neither was Haven. Despite the initial monsters, this place seems... almost tame compared to Haven. ]

That's good to know. I'd hate to be the unfortunate person that tried to pull a B&E on me because we got assigned to the same house.

[ In Haven, it happened while they were asleep. Rose wonders if it'll be the same here. Hopefully not enough people get pulled for her to ever find out. ]

Do you share a place with anyone? [ Rose knows he has a brother from Haven and wonders if he's here too. She suspects, however, that it won't be any version of the Sam she knew just like this isn't any version of Dean she knew. ]

How many people are here? How long has... all this been here?

[ Haven had started small but soon their hunger grew larger and more and more people were pulled each month. Eventually, the quantity of people they abducted grew far too large and it had to changed to every other month.

She can only hope that doesn't happen here. ]

That's... a good point, actually.

[ Cole usually has good points, though. ]

Guess it makes more sense for you not to ask, then.

Which doesn't mean there aren't any. [ As both women already know. Cecily, too, retrieves her weapons, yanking bloodied arrows from the monster's corpse and reclaiming them if they aren't too damaged.

The Inquisitor straightens, breathing deep. ]

I've realized we've fought together more here than in Thedas. [ She reports, brows raising. ] It must be different, being out in the field again after so much time spent in the tower.

[ With the birds. Does she miss the birds? ]

[fadeling]

Maybe it will later. But it doesn't matter now.

[All authority is utterly untrustworthy, L's eyes say before he takes another bitter sip of tea. He doesn't like it any more than he did, but at least he's getting used to it; he thinks he'll have a lot of comparable experiences.]

Do they oppose one another? Are they doing battle or playing a game? Or do they share the same ultimate goals, more or less?

I hope to! I keep looking, but I haven't had any luck yet.

[He shrugs at the question.]

Not at the moment. I traded in what I had to get those ones to play on a trip I was supposed to be taking. Supposedly if we leave here, we end up right where we left off like nothing happened. Good to know I won't miss our cruise! You a platform fan, then?

The layout of the caves change. The rocks--move. [unfortunately. Maketh hesitates.] We're not sure. None of us have ever seen it. But it brings in different people.

[Maketh nods, pleased.] You can trust him. He has proven himself here.

There are less to be relied on here.

( And the situation is different. No safeties of the Inquisition, no one that would so quickly kill her. She can't rely on others, and Leliana doesn't have her network here. So far she needs to do things herself. But Cecily's point does stand - it is different )

It's easy to fall back into it.

( And it does remind her a little of her adventures with the Warden. Not all of that could be as easily forgotten as she would like )

I can't help you with that. I don't think anybody can.

[Better to break it to this guy quickly, if he doesn't already know.]

We're all stuck here. There's no way back.

They seem to oppose one another- but I'm not sure if that's reality, or just convenient messaging to make us like Hope a little better.

As you might imagine, we all loathe Fear, almost universally.

[While he sips his own tea.]

I can easily imagine as much. That being said...

[He sets his tea aside. He needs a break from the sugarless, overwhelmingly herbal taste that is nothing like what he's been required to put up with in the past.]

It takes a very foolish person not to recognize the value of fear, doesn't it?

Yeah, you and me both. Pretty sure our apartment's got the hatches battened down about as far as they can go. Nobody's gonna be breakin' into our place without a lesson or two in pain management.

[ Which should answer her next question in part, though Dean is still partially hesitant to give the rest of the information over. Not because he cares about sharing, not really, because it hardly seems fair to tell people how many safety nets he has here, when so many others have no one at all. ]

Got family. Brother and a best friend of mine. [ Family. He says it like it's almost a breath of fresh air, something he desperately wants to hold on to yet always expects will disappear at a moments notice. ]
