Yes.
[He was a proud man, and yes, he'd hurt people, but he was trying to make it better. That helped.]
He thinks he should hurt to help the people he hurt but that only makes it hurt more.
[It's a cycle that's hard to break as long as he kept thinking that, and it's hard to show him another way when he doesn't want to see it.]
