( Kate's not sure she remembers a time where her brain didn't work for some sort of business purposes. school work, academics, never, but put her on the track as a kid and everything became serious. it was all about athletics.

Kate just nods at that first part, her own mind drifting to the same woman. Dagny deserved sainthood, to be honest. taking Kate on as an apprentice after everything they did in Manchester, putting a girl who left school at sixteen through her paces and making her into someone who could actually run a clinic, even without considering Kate's phobia (which she handled deftly, alongside Jonathon and all his support). but then, actually supporting their decision, supporting the entire group when they visited, helping where she could.

(her first words, upon meeting Faith, upon learning everything from them both? "Well, I am glad someone did something.")

sometimes Dagny reminds Kate of Rosenberg. of what Rosenberg should have been in the first place. she reminds her of what Kate wants to be, that unflappable, strong figure who doesn't need violence to command respect, who does it all on her own.

(Kate isn't there. probably never will be. but she can try.)

She walks Faith through rooms - cobbled together wards, pointing out the office as they walk by, opening the supply closet to quickly show the systems in place (a stock list next to the door that gets updated when people take things out) and the items they have (burn cream, bandages, other basics, and a supply of little trinkets that seem incredibly out of place). )

Oh. ( that reminds her. ) Death's... not permanent here. Hope brings people back.

( that sounds incredibly cheesy if you don't know that Hope's a god. )
