Event Log: Dead Men Walking

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Dead Men Walking event!
Where: All around the city
When: September 14th-September 20th
Warnings: Zombies. Walkers. The Infected. Zeds. The undead. Risen.

Everything seems more or less normal in Hadriel on the 14th - at least at first. But wait, who's that over there? Why are they walking so weird? Are they feeling okay? Wow, did they just try to bite you? Oh shit, you might've seen a movie like this before. That was definitely a zombie.

But hey, it's no big deal. A few zombies here and there are pretty easy to avoid, especially when you can outrun them without too much trouble. They're only really dangerous if they're fast or if there are a lot of them, and they sure aren't fast! Only - well, before long, there are a lot of them. You can hardly go outside without running into one, and mobs form quickly. Went out for supplies? Let's hope they didn't follow you - you might get stuck in that shop, mobile corpses pounding on the door. Oh, and don't stand too close to the windows of your house. They'll be more than happy to smash the glass trying to get you.

Don't worry, though! A hard blow to the head will take these zombies out, and you'll be sitting pretty, as long as none of them bite you. None of them bit you... right? Wow, what a relief. We're all glad you're not concealing a life-threatening zombie bite from your friends! Who would do that, anyway? Now if you can manage that until the 20th, you'll be safe and sound as the zombies shamble out of the city. Hopefully you won't be shambling with them.

They're rarely both not working at the same time. Generally speaking, so far, when Simon is working he tries to make sure Bruce gets a moment to rest; the reverse also tends to be true, the unspoken agreement that they both need to be working as close to their best as they can, at least one of them working at all times.

Still, even now there can be a brief moment of pause, and Simon takes a seat next to Bruce on the stairs, passing over a dented cup of what passes for tea these days. It's barely more than hot water, but it's the thought that matters.

"Anything going on out here?" Aside from the usual, of course. Zombies, corpses, despair.

"I think that some of them are starting to understand that we're here- if that's even a term that can be applied."

He admits, looking up at Simon, hand passing reflexively over the shaft of that club of his. The end is flaked with brown.

"The pace of them has been picking up."

Simon's eyes don't miss the telltale streaks on the club. Just because he hasn't done much in the way of fighting them off doesn't mean he hasn't had his own share of close encounters. He's fairly certain that whatever events come after this in Hadriel, this one is going to stick with him for a long, long time. "I suppose they had to, eventually," he finally answers, fingers lacing together around his own cup. "Increased sense of smell, maybe. Their eyesight certainly isn't much good." His voice is analytical, surprisingly steady despite his exhaustion. It's the only way he knows how to handle it all.

"They seem to track fast movement best of all."

He agrees, letting out a soft breath through his nose.

"Though, of course, freezing in place is a tremendous gamble. How are the boards on the back windows holding up?" And, as it occurs to him, for that matter. "How are you holding up yourself? And your sister?"

A slight nod, agreeing. He's not sure he'd be able to freeze, in a situation like that. The body's fight-or-flight instincts are too strong. But it's easier to report than to think too hard about the prospect of being in a situation where that gambit might be necessary, and so he forces his attention back to the present.

"Seems like they're holding up well enough. It's helped that our squad on the roof seems to be keeping them at a distance." The other questions are a little harder. "I'm managing. If we can keep this contained, maybe there will be answers. I've always worked well in crisis situations." It isn't bragging, just truth. And River..."River's--managing. She's gone out once or twice. I don't like it, but I can't force her to stay inside." Can't, and won't.

"That must be terrifying."

He wouldn't want anyone he knows out in this, least of all someone with River's filter between her and the world. He can't help but worry- and worry for Simon, since he knows him, and he doesn't really know River.

"Thank you for staying with us, in that case."
